The point isn't how many strikers we have. The point is how many do we have that are good enough for a team aiming for the top 4 and who can be relied upon to play more than a couple of games without getting injured?! We're still going to be fighting on 4 fronts in the new year so frankly that list of 5 does not look the least bit like over-kill.
Sturridge is class. Benteke can improve but far too early to write him off completly. Firminho can improve and Origi is young enough to be moulded into the striker Klopp wants. If we cant get by with those players there is something wrong. |

Now come the summer time that may change as Klopp may want to sell some strikers although considering everyone bar sturridge is new to the club not sure how bombing anyone out so soon without taking a major hit on the fee makes much sense. |

And thats the question I have. We have enough strikers as it is without adding more to the mix.

All the noise at the moment is about this winger Kevin Grosskreutz. If there's any truth to it then it can't be good news for Markovic or even Lallana.

Tonight's line up
Liverpool: Mignolet, Clyne, Toure, Lovren, Smith, Henderson, Milner, Can, Lallana, Firmino, Origi. Subs: Bogdan, Randall, Skrtel, Rossiter, Brannagan, Coutinho, Benteke. Quite happy with that

Well that was one of the most boring 45 minutes of football I've ever seen. I'd comment on what I've seen in that 1st half, but quite frankly I can't remember. The only thing that's still in my head is that the pitch is a bit shit.

A thoroughly uninteresting game. Sion wanted the draw from the first minute and it suited us too. We tried to break them down without overcommitting but the woeful pitch made it difficult to get any sort of quick, incisive passing going.
Brad Smith did well and Coutinho got 30 minutes. So there are positives.

Nice to see Henderson getting enough time, and Coutinho's back!
As said above, Brad Smith played well, despite the pitch getting in his way, particularly in the second half, yet he kept going for it. Oh and we didn't concede. At least we topped the group.

- Sion only needed a draw and very much played for it. - We had already qualified and were quite visibly not arsed about winning the match - The pitch was absolutely dire - It would've been absolutely freezing - the coldest the players will have experienced all year - 2nd string players who have never played with the squad all that often were plentiful - Henderson and Coutinho were just coming back from injuries It was boring game that nobody on the pitch was bothered about winning and it showed. There is nothing to take away from this - either positive OR negative. |

Absolutely nothing can be taken or learned from this game, for a plethora of reasons.

I was out and rushed back for the kick off but did not get in till 20 minutes had gone but I do not think I missed much if the 70 minutes I did see were anything to go by. Also on a positive note I am going to the WBA game on Sunday - my first PL match this season (I did go to the Rubin one) so I am really looking forward to it. |

Agree Shouldn't be the case and if it was more youngsters should have been played Probably played on worse in League cup games but fair enough I'd be surprised if it was much warmer in russia when we played Ruban Kazan I'd question Plentiful? Only Smith & Toure who started. If your point 2 applies they shouldn't have been risked Don't wish to harp on about it but when fans have paid good money to travel down there the least they should expect is that the team on the pitch are "bothered" about winning it. We are through which is the main thing yes but I don't want to set any precedents for the players under Klopp that these performances are fine and dandy, we should be turning them over with the team we went with. Well done to Sion on qualifying, they seemed pleased ![]() Hope for better on Sun v WBA than the last 2 games have brought. |

As a fan, I like to see us put 100% in and win as many matches as possible, even if they are essentially friendlies. But this wasn't really evident in the body language of the players today, and it's not really much of a surprise given that our progress was already cemented. Had the players worked their asses off and not gotten a result, then I'd be more concerned about where the result against West Brom might be coming from. As it is, I expect Klopp to drill it into the players to go all out for this match and hopefully we'll see that the Newcastle and Palace games are just blips in the long run. |

If anyone's interested, our potential opponents for the round of 32 (to be played on the 18th and 25th of February) are:
Fenerbahce Borussia Dortmund Midtjylland Villarreal Marseille Saint-Etienne Sporting Lisbon Fiorentina Anderlecht Sparta Prague Augsburg Sevilla Valencia Galatasaray Shakhtar Donetsk The draw is on Monday at midday. Some really decent sides there. The last 4 dropped in from the Champions League and are unseeded due to having weaker group finishes than the other 4 who also dropped in (Porto, Olympiacos, United and Leverkusen). If there's one we really don't want I think it's Dortmund. Probably Sevilla too given that they're the holders. A big benefit of being seeded is that we host the second leg. |

I'd fancy Villareal or Marseille. Wouldn't mind Valencia for a good contest, and to knock the Nevilles out.
![]() Would rather avoid the Turkish clubs, though with Fenerbahce we'd be facing RvP and Nani, and Markovic could help us out with a couple own-goals, if he can play against us. |

So minus Ings who is out for the season we would have Sturridge, Benteke, Firminho and Orgi all fighting for a place. I seriously dont see much wrong with those four.
Sturridge is class. Benteke can improve but far too early to write him off completly. Firminho can improve and Origi is young enough to be moulded into the striker Klopp wants. If we cant get by with those players there is something wrong. If Sturridge was 100% fit and we could reasonably rely on him to stay that way long term there would be no issue (although I'm greedy and would prefer and equally capable striker as an alternative), but he isn't and we can't so we need someone we can rely on and I do not see any of the alternative we have right now being like-for-like replacements. We have a fantastic chance of having a successful season with silverware and CL qualification but not having the best possible striker options is a huge risk IMO. |
