The situation is sorted by playing whoever is doing best formwise, if a new player comes in (as I think needs to be done), and they perform well, then none of the others woukd be able to proclaim that they should be starting ahead of them.
Of course, if a new player comes in, and they don't do well, and we have three strikers not in the best of form fighting for one position, then that will bring it's own set of headaches for a manager.

Polite request - would it be possible for discussions about MUFC strikers to be held elsewhere than on the LFC thread - like the MUFC thread for instance!!

Also knowing past history between you two Eddie will have a go at Bats for expressing his opinion, Bats will have a go back justifying it and before you know it a few others who dislike Bats (mostly MUFC fans) will have waded taking up several posts on the LFC thread whilst us LFC fans will be both bored and annoyed in equal measure.

Congratulations on your promotion to moderator Alan, I missed the memo.

I think you'll find I was happily discussing on topic things with Liverpool fans i.e how many strikers are prudent for a club to have. I cant be held responsible for the posts of others. I posted on that yesterday and it didn't seem to offend anyone, its been dragged up again after almost 24 hours.

It was never a discussion about MUFC strikers, it's just a certain special poster cannot understand that an example may not be literal. The discussion was about whether Liverpool need another striker.

Being a former teacher, should your comprehension skills not be a bit better?

Or is this more about defending a poster who has made hurtful comments about Hillsborough and re-tweeted horrible Heysel stuff?

Eddie was using the Man United striker situation to add to a point, not to discuss Man United strikers. I see nothing wrong in what he posted or him posting in here. I regularly post in the Man United thread and I can bring up Liverpool without fear of getting chased out, and if someone ignored my point and tried to chase me out I'd tell them where to go.

This thread has had a bit of a reputation for years for being...unwelcoming...to outsiders, and that post to Eddie doesn't help. The Liverpool thread can do with more activity. The fact that the United thread is always active is one of the reasons I go in there.

It was made official this morning that our FA Cup tie against Exeter will be shown live on the BBC on Friday 8th January at 19:55. This means our fixtures for Jan are now :

Saturday 2nd Jan - West Ham on BT Sports
Tuesday 5th Jan - Stoke (Capital One Cup) Sky Sports
Friday 8th Jan - Exeter (FA CUP) BBC 1
Wed 13th Jan - Arsenal (BT SPORTS)
Sunday 17th Jan - Manchester United (Sky Sports)
Saturday 23rd Jan - Norwich (BT Sports)
Tuesday 26th Jan - Stoke (Capital One Cup) Sky Sports

That is a lot of fixtures in 1 month, would like to see more game time for some of the youngsters in the Cup games.

Opinions ?

Agree with that.

The idea this should only be for Liverpool fans is silly.

I hesitate to revisit this as it is only prolonging what was meant to be a minor point - I have not said it should be for LFC fans only. I am happy to hear the views of the fans of other clubs especially about LFC matters which I may disagree with of course but it is informative and if done politely is a helpful thing. I disagree that we are unwelcoming to visitors, on the contrary we give them a good welcome. I rarely go on other clubs threads as often in the past I have not been made that welcome(by the minority I agree, many are fine) that I feel that I dare not risk it again.

I accept Eddie post was not that bad but it was solely about MUFC players (altho comparing it to the LFC situation) then Bats commented on it with a post which again was about MUFC issues and I know what things are like when Bats makes a ill advised post - people jump on his back and a full blown argument ensues!! - which I did not want to happen on the LFC thread so I pre-empted it by my comment - which I think was entirely justified.

Matter closed I hope.

Peace and love to everyone

On the off-chance anyone in here has a direct line to the big cheeses at the club, please let them know that Kent is impressive but his final ball still needs work so the best thing is for him to extend his loan at least until the end of the season. Repeat, DO NOT RECALL.

I say this from a purely objective standpoint.

Well no actually, not "matter closed" at all. You don't have the right to wade in, make your declaration of the way you think it should be and then shut down the right of reply.

1. I made my post a full 24 hours ago now where I was talking about the perils of having too many strikers in the context of a Liverpool fan talking about needing increased numbers. I compared it to the situation my club finds itself in by way of illustration. No problem, on topic and relevant.

2. Today, Batdude as is his constant want dug out my post from yesterday, took it completely out of context and decided he had to reply as I does to every post that every Man Utd fan makes on this forum.

3. I read the post and decided not to reply for the VERY reason that it was derailing the thread. I was quite happy to blank it completely until you waded in with your orders from headquarters.

Do NOT lump me in with Batdude as though because we support the same club we are the same. I have no control over his insistence on replying to every bloody thing whether what he is saying is relevant or not.

I post on your thread and try to be constructive, relevant and on topic. I don't mock Liverpool and I don't let the rivalry get in the way of discussion. I also by the way and please note, do NOT mock Heysel in any way and expect to get away with because its done on another platform away from DS. I just don't do it full stop. I also don't make crass comment about Hillsborough and then come crawling round here offering patronising platitudes. You guys continue to look past that with Batdude and that is up to you but on that basis DO NOT lump us in together again please. Also note the only reason this is being discussed is because you felt the need to bring it up.

Now you can do your "matter closed" routine.

Thank you.

I didn't mean for my comment on Eddie's striker post to bring this much resentment.

I am honestly sorry, if my post infuriated anyone, that was never my aim, I only wanted to comment about what was said within that singularly post.

If some people here as Liverpool fans don't want other fans of other clubs commenting on here, then that is fine and very understandable, and of course your views on the matter should quite rightly be of paramount importance.

If there is a unanimous feeling of only wanting Liverpool fans to post here, then fair enough, I will leave you all in peace, and wish you all well in your future discussions.

I do not wish to create havoc or disharmony in another teams thread, just as I would not wish an outsider to do the same on my own teams thread.

So whatever the decision is, I will stand by it, as I am an honourable person.

And once again the cause of the majority of the issues and problems in this forum continues to attempt to come across as the injured party. Enough!

My God, no wonder people get annoyed with you.

Your apology is so insincere

I'm sure you've been told before that you annoy the Liverpool supporters at times (I'm sure within the last month in fact). And I'm sure you did the 'I never intend to annoy anyone, I just want good debate' speech back then too. Perhaps just add this apology as a footnote to all of your posts to avoid the hassle.

My apology was not meant to be insincere at all, it was meant as sincere and heartfelt.
I am sorry if you took it in a different manner to what it was intended.

I do try and only post on topic and relevant posts, especially in another teams thread, and I do try and be respectful and mindful of what I say, as I know that I am not on "home turf" so to speak.

I did not say that either -and as far as I can see no LFC fan has ever said that. To go over what happened. At 10.27 this morning I saw a post from BD on our thread which had been posted 17 minutes earlier which I feared would lead to an exchange of views on the matter in question (who MUFC should pick as their strikers) which I did not really want on the LFC thread cos it is hardly relevant to us. In the 17 minutes since BDs post Eddie had not replied but I feared he might - he later said he had intention of doing so as he could see it would derail our thread. Respect to him for that. In fact I does seem my fears may have been unfounded and if that is the case apologies from me to everyone for wasting their time today but it is not as if there has not been a precedent as in recent times I can recall such a dispute on our thread.

Fair enough Bats - but you have said this before and it has not quite happened has it. Believe me when I say I am nowhere near as anti you as some seem to be - apart from your Hillsborough comment I can't recall you upsetting me that much altho sometimes your comments do not add much to a discussion but that is not a 'crime' and my advice for when that happens if people feel that way is to for them to simply ignore what you say - in most cases it is possible.

On Hillsborough tho when you started telling LFC fans that in a few years time we will not feel as strongly as we do now cos the people involved would had passed on that I would say is 100% wrong. Maybe it was not done maliciously but to say that you must have no idea of the strength of feeling on the matter within our fan base and the city - and why as a MUFC fan would you realise how we felt - but in that case staying quiet on the matter may have been the best option as trust me that post upset a lot of people on what is easily the most sensitive matter in our clubs history.

To sum up - just try to think before you post.

Blimey the return of Cantona07

Has anything been cleared up over Sturridge's latest injury setback? Initially I heard out until the new year, then could be back for the Watford game. Anyone heard anything more concrete?

I honestly had no intention of upsetting anyone with any of my Hillsborough comments, and if they did, then I am truly sorry about that, I really am.

I do not want any negative stains on my character as I am not that sort of guy, since we have had our own tragedy in Munich, I can perfectly well understand the strength of feeling towards your own horrible event.

I take on board everything that people say towards me, and I just want to post on topic and relevant posts, I would not want to come along or come across as someone who maliciously and callously disrupts another teams thread.

As rival fans, of course we will not see eye to eye on everything, and nor should we!
However, I do hope that I can be neutral in some of my thoughts on occasions, when there is nothing to be gained by being biased one way or the other.

So, I hope that we can get along as well as it is possible for rival fans to do so!
