What does everyone make of the rumours linking us with Mario Gotze? He seems to have fallen slightly out of favour at Bayern, and he's played under Klopp before at Dortmund so it's not the most unrealistic "high profile" signing we could potentially make. It'd be a hell of a statement too.

I'd question it only because Gotze's a number 10 who can sort of do a job out wide but lacks pace. Not really the type of player we need right now.
His contract runs out next summer though and it's not likely he'll get the number 10 role under Ancelloti as Lewandowski and Muller pretty much always occupy the central roles. So I wouldn't be surprised to see him leave. He's never really lived up to his potential there. |

like parthenon said, another number 10 isnt what we need. Quote:

Apparently we're close to agreeing a deal of 15m Euros (plus addons) for Alexander Pato.
He's a bit of a gamble, he's been fit for two seasons apparently, but I don't know if he'll make the step up and be a hit, which is something we need. |

Perhaps he's not what we need in terms of quantity, but if we ended up selling Lallana in the summer and Gotze was the replacement, he'd obviously be a far superior replacement. And Lallana is definitely a player I can see leaving in the summer. I agree that we do need pace though.
If he ends the season without getting many goals and assists he may well go, and I wouldn't lose any sleep over Gotze replacing Lallana. I actually think it could happen in the summer. He's commented on it, too, saying if Klopp wants him he should go speak to him, but stated he's not leaving in January. I always buy him on FIFA and Football Manager, so it'd save me having to do it! |

However, we do have a #10 in Coutinho that could be a target for a number of teams, including the gruesome twosome from Spain. Though where he would actually play in those teams is questionable. I doubt there's many willing to drive Phillipe to the airport to see him gone, but IF he did decide to take another offer, at least he'd bring in the kind of money that would make interest in Gotze or Reus more viable to the money bods at FSG. |

This time of the season - mad isn't it.
I am as bad as the rest of us as I always go to the BBC gossip page and when I am on FB open all the transfer rumour links on the likes of 90 minutes ...etc but the truth is that the majority of it is rubbish and in many cases it's the players agents putting the rumours into the public domain just to try to engineer moves - and we take it all in - or at least we read it and think it could be true. Then you hear JK saying we are going to sign nobody or denying all the rumours but that does not stop people printing them - but he would deny them wouldn't he as even if they were true he would not divulge it in the media. So the answer is to wait till something actually happens before we comment too much. I do think tho that with JK in charge the idea of signing players with a large international profile should not be ruled out - he would be able to persuade them to come I think as they would prob think we as a club under him could become a more successful club in the next few years - perhaps even without CL altho getting it would help - the bigger question is would FSG be prepared to pay the fee and the wages needed for such players. I feel less sure of that. |

I am absolutely disgusted that United fans have brazenly stolen our famous club motto and only slightly altered it for their own use...

Although losing/ selling Lallana wouldn't unduly worry most fans, we'd have to take a bit of a hit on the fee and I'm not sure there would be many clubs lining up to pay him what we do.

I've seen many LFC fans opine that Coutinho would be better utilised in a number 8 role and I think that's the role he'd get at Barca. He probably lacks the physicality to play that role long term in the PL but it wouldn't be as much of an issue in La Liga. Then again, he's still wildly inconsistent and they have Turan for that role. So him not being at his best could be a good thing for us. |

It will be interesting to see the bench on Wednesday to see if any of the more impressive performers from Friday might get a chance. Smith was especially impressive and Branagan not far behind. It wouldn't be a better measure once we see some of those players perform on a pitch better suited to passing and with a few more experienced players around them - Sinclair didn't have enough service to make a true judgement but his finish was an indication of his potential.

I could see him being phased in as a long-term replacement for Iniesta. Not that he's anywhere near as good right now (and might never be) but playing with better players would certainly help him improve. Right now I feel like he's shooting constantly rather than looking for the pass because he doesn't trust his teammates. At Barca he would be providing service to the deadliest front 3 in world football.

I appreciate the fact that Liverpool's injury crisis is a story, but it's really beginning to bug me that nobody seems to be paying any attention to the fact that we have also had a serious injury crisis for months and that the side that played tonight is in no way our full strength-team either. In fact I can barely think of a major player for us who managed to get on the pitch who was fully fit. Many were out of the squad altogether.
Noble has been out for the majority of the season - he only returned for 20 minutes against Dagenham on Saturday and today was his first start in God knows how long. Not surprisingly he wasn't fit enough to last the game tonight. Ribeiro is a similar story - out for ages, then made a cameo a couple of weeks ago but reinjured himself. Tonight was also his first start for a long time and he had to come off injured too. Lee Holmes has been in and out with injury, only really came back a few weeks ago and was yet another player who had to come off tonight because he wasn't fit enough to last the game. Troy Brown only returned a couple of games ago and can't be fully fit either. Our most dangerous attacking player is David Wheeler. He's our "nuclear threat" if you like and one of the best players in League 2 (those who watched our game against Teddy Sheringham's Stevenage might remember the wonder-goal he scored). He's been injured for weeks and wasn't even in the squad. Ditto for our talismanic creative midfielder, Ryan Harley and Ollie Watkins - a young academy graduate who has been a real find. Manny Oyeleke was bought to be our midfield ball-winner and he's also been out injured for most of the season. McAllister is our first-choice left back and he's injured too. Tillson, another academy graduate, is a centre-back by trade. He only tends to start there when Moore-Taylor or Brown are out or when Tisdale plays three at the back. However he has played in midfield recently, in front of the back four, because of our injury crisis and has only a handful of games in that position. Of course I wouldn't expect fans of the Premier League to have any idea about this, but what really annoys me is the way the national media seem to have completely ignored our own problems with a lack of fit players and the way the narrative of an injury hit Liverpool against a full-strength Exeter City has been allowed to develop. That is the complete opposite of the truth. If Liverpool were handicapped, then so were we. ![]() The other thing winding me up is people slagging off our pitch, well this is the current state of the Exeter surrounds, the rain has been bad here, and much our pitch is open to the elements, we've paid a lot of money (for us) relaying our pitch twice, and buying decent covers, because Tisdale likes to try and play football and we want as good a surface as possible. It's not like we had big guys in defence or up-top, in fact I'm guessing Liverpool had a taller side, despite their age. Oh BTW despite all the hatred I thought Enrique was class on the ball, yet I'm used to League 2 footballers, wouldn't have minded seeing Clinton against him though. Benteke looked nothing special at all though. To think you could buy our entire club, side and ground for what was paid for him and have plenty of change. |

BBC reporters in Scotland are saying that you are recalling Danny Ward. Any truth in that?
Hopefully this isn't the case and he is with us for a while yet.

Could not see coutinho in a number 8 role. His range of passing is not good enough. Would need to improve in that area massively.
Don't see him going anywhere in the summer to be honest. Barca are not in a rush to buy him. His passing would need to improve in general though, as would the rest of his game but I agree it's not likely he'll go anywhere. He's still in and out of form constantly and I can't see them or any other club paying the sort of money we'd be after to let him go, barring an unbelievable 2nd half of the season from him. |

It seems we are indeed recalling Danny Ward. Which given the timing I assume means he's coming in immediately as a new #2.
Might even be pushing Mignolet for a place in the starting lineup, especially given how devastated Aberdeen fans are right now. |

Origi is said to be out for another month after getting surgery on his knee last week.
Sturridge isn't going to be available to face Man United at the weekend (*shocker*), but Dejan Lovren's hamstring injury is thought to be better than previously thought, and could be available against United. I think even Suárez would get injured in this team! |

Looks like the club is trying to get Stephen caulker on loan from QPR.
Not sure how that works as he is on loan at Southampton. Have Southampton agreed to terminate loan deal? |

Nah, not Suarez, banned maybe but not injured. Quote:

Caulker is indeed confirmed now: http://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/firs...al-for-caulker
I'm happy with it as long as it is just until the end of season. Sakho and Toure may be fit enough come tomorrow night anyway so he might only be a bench option for the time being. Also, doesn't give much hope for Ilori... |
