Sakho was visibly affected by the clash of heads and it cost him getting back to Ramsey quick enough - maybe the "professional" thing to do was to go down. I'm sure the more cynical managers would have insisted on it.

I think that is certainly true

Hi all, hope you don't mind me popping in.

I've been meaning to ask about Jonjo Shelvey who just signed for Newcastle. England international, rated highly but maybe one or 2 issues with attitude? Did he part Liverpool on good terms? What did you make of him?

Cheers

Yes on good terms. Club didn't want to sell but he wanted more first team football.

Didn't seen to have any attitude problems at Liverpool

Yes, it wasn't exactly an attitude problem he had ( or has ) , it's just that on the pitch he can wear his heart on his sleeve and let all the adrenalin take over, lose his concentration and let his emotions boil over and lose his cool during a game. It's not a big problem though, passion is what also brings out the best of him.

He made the right move at the right time when he left Liverpool; he was heading to be what Joe Allen is now: a bencher who can come in for a few games here and there.

Here's a question for you all, if you are Klopp who do you put in goal tomorrow? Do you stick with Mignolet who was again poor against Arsenal or would you give Danny Ward a chance tomorrow?

Sounds good. That's good to know then. May have been a similar situation at Swansea. Or maybe a falling out.

I'm guessing he's been given assurances about his place as he's coming into a midfield with plenty of competition for places in midfield. Very pleased we have him though

I'd put no-one in goal tomorrow as that would be cruel (we're playing Sunday).

I'd go with Mig with Ward as No 2 as the 2nd Arsenal goal wasn't his fault due to Giroud's touch and the first goal was a sharp finish albeit he should do better at his near post (but that's not usually his weak point - it's crosses mostly). I can't see United bombarding us with crosses either.

Shelvey has the technique, vision and desire but sometimes loses concentration or his temper. Some of his passing was ambitious so risky.

It was a shame to see him go as he will mature into a decent pro but needs the right environment. If I'm not wrong, wasn't he the name in BR's infamous envelope?

Lack of concentration doesn't concern me too much. It's a Newcastle United prerequisite.

BR had a few of those envelopes didn't he? I never found out whose names were in there though.

Hopefully our club will bring out the best in him. But the I'm pleased he's here. Big signing, not marquee buthe one of those I say I'm glad to have here.

To put Ward in for his first ever game in a match V MUFC would be a massive risk and tbh very unfair on him - I do think Ward will play pretty soon (V Exeter?) and if he does well then one day he may take over as the first choice but Sunday would be the wrong game.

I am less forgiving than Sloth re Mig as I do feel that both the first 2 goals the other night were more down to him than anyone and his continued errors breed panic amongst the defenders but I do think he should be picked on Sunday - and he is not a bad keeper - we just need better!! When the opposition get corners or free kicks near our box it sends me and many LFC fans into panic mode!!

Man United is too big a fixture to drop Ward in. If he messes up it won't do his confidence any good. Leave him for the Exeter game. I want him to be eased in, and would like him to push and even take over Mignolet. If he could become what we want in a goalkeeper then it'll save us a lot of money, and it's about time we developed a first-choice goalkeeper from our academy.

Being an Aberdonian I can come on here and say Danny Ward is the real deal. Fantastic servant for Aberdeen this season. He will do well.

I don't think Ward or Caulker can play against Exeter. Unless they have changed the rule, players have to be registered for the club at the date of the original fixture

Hello, I'm new. Big game tomorrow. I feel very nervous.

If we can raise our game, as we have done in the bigger games this season, I think we'll win. It's a big if though.

I was intrigued that we brought Ward back from loan. No point in doing so unless he's going to feature at some point.

As per the post above, he can't play against Exeter, and I don't see him starting against United.

Maybe he'll feature against Norwich?

Welcome - I'm not sure it's raising our game against the bigger teams, our style is far more effective against teams that play football and allow us to press. We can't press effectively against sides who are more direct or sit back and break on us. We need to find an effective Plan B, especially at home against defensive-minded teams. I suspect United will be patient and look to break or do us from Rev pieces - can't see an LVG ride going for our throat and view William instead look to keep tie ball and break.

As for Ward, maybe Klopp wanted to send a message to Mig and Bogdan - he'll promote him if either continue to slip up.

We need to take our chances early tomorrow and force United to play on the front foot. Expecting a lightning start as always

Shane Long? I can totally see how he fits the Klopp style but he's hardly a goal machine so won't solve our lack of cutting edge. An intriguing interim option if true.

You thinking of him as a loan option?

A downside is that he plays for Southampton, and with Caulker recently at Southampton on loan it'll just mean we're shopping at Southampton again.

A waste of £8m, I think. Especially when you consider Saints have just got Austin for £4m.

If Austin was going for £4m I wouldn't have been against getting him, even though we do have a lot of (injured) strikers. But for £4m you could do a lot worse.

Austin is a bargain at 4 million

We must have enough points on our Southampton FC loyalty card to get him for free by now.

I remember when he scored against us & he refused to celebrate, when he went off every fan cheered for him.

As you saw today, he's a talented guy. He played well in our U21s but couldn't break into the first team and understandably wanted to play more so we let him go. Some fans were unhappy about it but he wasn't going to get in our midfield at the time since we'd just signed Coutinho and he was playing out of his skin, and Stevie was very much the first name on the TS. Not sure if Rodgers rated him or not.

Don't think his attitude was a problem but he had a tendency to occasionally lose his head on the pitch.
