Selling an attacking player less prolific than Welbeck for £50m. Christ.

Benteke will sign I think.
Personally I would love the club to go all out for Lacazzete and see if they can tempt lyon. We have time which is good thing. Suarez hurt as regardless of how much we got for him he couldn't be replaced. While I would of liked to of seen sterling grow and become world class here it's not like his not replaceable. I have a feeling that Sterling's replacement will be either Ntep or Cheryshev and I'm not particularly keen on either, tbh. Benteke at over £25m isn't really great value and as others have pointed out, we'd need to become more of a crossing and counter attacking team to get the best out of him. We could end up with two distinct styles though: one with Benteke and two wide attackers and another more passing formation with Sturridge/Ings backed up by Coutinho and Firmino behind them. |

Doesn't 20% go to QPR though so we won't have the whole £49m

Considering city initially bid £25 mil and have now moved £24 mil for the player either they are not very good negotiators or we really are not playing when it comes to selling prized assets. The club say a price and won't be moved. |

Correct and it would be 20% on the £44 mil as the £5 mil add ons isn't guaranteed.

Regardless of home grown requirements if you think about all the players in world football that could be bought for £50m or less I would have thought City would have pulled out and looked elsewhere and waited to see how Liverpool and Sterling reacted. It seems Liverpool didn't have to play hardball for long before City caved. |

Im amazed City went as high as they did. It suggests that they dont really care how much they pay and as you say, aren't very good at negotiations. Liverpool certainly played a blinder.

I think the homegrown player issue played a part, especially seeing as Delph decided not to go to City after all.
Good deal for Liverpool. |

He is such a **** it will nice if he does bomb as Man City , he is nowhere near as good as he thinks he is.
Look at Owen , Fowler , Gerrard at his age and all was miles ahead of him . |

Sterling has won no friends but ultimately doubled his wages - Liverpool have wrapped him in cotton wool the last couple of years but for the money and wages City have paid Sterling needs to realise that the kid gloves will be well and truly off now ...
Will he step up to the mark?? I have my doubts but ultimately clubs like City can afford to take a chance on plenty of duff players in the hope of uncovering that gem. |

A club will pay whatever is required to get the player. United overpaid for Shaw, Mata and Fellani because they wanted them. I didn't see United fans complaining.

All Im saying is I would question paying that amount for this particular player when you stack it up against what else £50m *should* be able to get you. |

I think he meant that you couldn't offer him anything over and above what United could. Not sure United were in for either of those players you mention (although I would have liked us to have gone for Clyne).
Actually think Benteke would be a good signing for either side. Some clubs can pay better than us, have more fans than us, are bigger clubs than us and win more trophies than us. It's been that way for the best part of 20 years. That's just the way football is. |

that's all relative though. Take turan for example which reports said Utd and Chelsea wanted. What could either offer which Barcelona couldn't.

There's a lot of natural talent there, But he is a rough diamond and could go either way, I shall wish him good luck and forget about him, Hope the remainder of the cash after QPR's bit is spent wisely.

Did you not? I saw a hell of a lot of United fans complain about the fees for Fellaini and Shaw.

I take your points.
I just think, even as a hot young prospect, the amount we paid for Shaw was bordering on the absurd. Is there a feeling he might turn into something more than a quality LB? Right now I can't see him doing much other than running really fast down the wing and then falling over and being out for six months! |

I'm actually amazed we managed to get that much for Sterling. In the long term he could become a very good player but right now I feel like we've improved upon him by getting Firmino in.
Hoping there are more good signings to come.

I'm 100 percent positive we will buy Benteke and that might be it.
All this talk of Lacazette and Reus is pure FIFA or Football Manager fantasy! |
