It's a very good deal for Liverpool and I'm sure Raheem will be happy with his wages going up from 35k per week to 200k per week.

Now let's invest this money wisely

Problem is, unless we have already started talks for someone, other clubs will see our lump sum as something they will be entitled to. Now is when we really find out how much ambition the club actually has.

I've got a feeling the only way Ibe will play is if he goes out on loan! People may think he's better than Sterling but he's not shown anything to back that up really. Needs to do a lot more.

Glad the Sterling saga seems to be over - it has taken up far too much time and energy these last few months. Partly it does not feel right that in the end he has got what he wants - but we must try not look on it like that - what we need to say is LFC have got what they want too - and LFC is far more important than Sterling. His continued presence would only have been an unnecessary distraction and possibly he could have influenced others in a bad way - far better to have him gone and the money in our account.

The big question of course is what we do with the money - not that keen on Benteke but he would be better than nothing - and we have to spend the money that's for sure and for me a top striker has to be the priority. Lazarette? - yes if poss but AFC seem to be in for him too and it will be hard to win that battle. If the player we want would cost 50m then we should spend it if he would come but the truth is that such players would prob all have CL clubs in for them so its a bit hypothetical anyway - if we were going to spend 50m on one star player then last summer when we had CL that was the time to do it.

I think we just have to wait and see what happens and cross our fingers that the money will not be wasted. In recent history we have made some costly mistakes - like all clubs - but as has been pointed out we are not rich enough to write it off as some clubs are. I found Grouty's earlier post saying LFC had nothing to offer signings way off - as usual - we do have a lot to offer - I feel far more optimistic now than I felt on the last day of last season with the people we have brought in (on and off the field) but until we see how they fit in we can't count any chickens - and it may take a while for some to get into their stride - Firmino is one I am especially anxious about on that score. Most of us have him in our first choice team - and in the end he will be - but maybe he will need time to adjust - I hope the fans are patient - mind you with Lallana as an option instead of him there is no need to panic. Many will get games with the EL and pre season games - and its simple - if you play well enough you will get more!!

Clyne isn't average. One of the best rb in the league.

How much of firminho have you seen? How many games?

Good business so far. Fingers crossed we can still get a decent fee for Borini, and I'd be happy if someone came in with a decent offer for Lovren.

Unfair analysis - for me both Milner and Clyne are good signings as they are proven reliable PL players - and Firmino is a current Brazilian international who is about 21 years old and Ings scored lots of goals in the PL last season and he will prob not even be first choice - altho I would question the need for a new RB but now he is here Clyne is very welcome especially when you see the current balance figure for the summer so far. I liked the interview of him I heard - his attitude seems first class. Who did you have in mind then that we should have signed who would have excited you then? - this will be interesting to see the reply!!

Misawa's break down was excellent - but it failed to say that we have lost SGs and Glens wages which is very relevant so there is plenty of scope for us to do more deals before the window closes to improve us even more. I cannot see us selling RS and not buying someone - can you? I do worry that our squad lacks older experienced players a bit now - and hopefully when we do get a striker it will hopefully be a proven player not some 20 year old who shows promise - I feel fairly confident it will be.

As I said yesterday we will buy Benteke. He's been our number one target this summer and still is.

And he will bomb and we will have wasted more money . I just have to hope that Man U do want him as he won't choose us over them which is a blessing in disguise on this transfer .

I think we will end up paying less than the £32.5m release clause due to paying more up front.

Probably £27m - £28m?

I go abroad to see family and I come back to find madness!

£49 mill for Sterling??? Good money fro us but as J Henry once said to Wenger! "What are they smoking over there?"

As for Benteke I think it's a bad move. We have just got £49 mill, Villa may now hike up the price for him.

If we did buy him I think it will be him and Coutino up front.

There's a few weird reports of us about to swap Marios with Fiorentina. They can't be right; surely the time to have Gomez was 4 years ago. There's certainly no point in both Gomez and Benteke, so maybe a bit of a bluff to get Villa to drop their price into the do-able range.

There is a release clause of £32.5 mil and I don't think the club will go that high.

I'm never happy when we sell one of our best players no matter how much we get for them but on this occasion I personally don't think he's as good as a lot of people have been making out so I'm happy we've taken the money and got rid of the sulky yoof! I will be surprised if he makes much of a mark at City where he'll be just another highly payed player brought in to make up their 'English' quota.

We've got a fair wad of cash now and with some big earners off our books, some freedom on the wages front so there's no reason we cannot go all out for a really class striker. I'll be disappointed if Benteke is the best we can get.

Surprised to see Mike Bernard on twitter saying LFC will offer Arsenal £12 mil for Walcott plus add-ons and a wage of £125k p/w.

I thought he signed a new deal at Arsenal.

Nope just read his been offered a new deal but not yet signed.

I'm sorry but I don't consider Liverpool to be the poor relation when it comes to spending money because you've spent a pretty penny over the years.

Rogers has spent over 200 million since he arrived according to which ever tabloid you want to google.
I didn't say we are poor relations spending-wise. My point was we don't as often pay an enormous fee for a single player, hence why Carroll (at the time) stood out. Given we can't hand pick CL quality players by and large, we've tended to either pay way over the odds for players or gamble on lesser names. My main point was that other teams are equally as wasteful, if not more so, so singling us out is a bit harsh.

Amother key point is that the spending since 2010-2011 followed a massive change in our status when Rafa's last season saw us lose CL status and some quality players. We've therefore spent a lot trying to rebuild - often poorly as in the Kenny Downing/Carroll dream team! As I said, other teams find it easier to bury their mistakes by wheeling out yet another £30m+ signing or competing for honours. City, Spurs, United and Chelsea have all bought big with questionable returns in recent seasons.

We've paid a lot for Firminho just to secure his signature, so it already represents a gamble. Let's hope he's a Suarez/Sturridge/Coutinho rather than an Aquilani, Carroll or Lovren.

you guys should get benteke in AND someone nippy with pace to replace rahim sterling as liverpool are best under rogers when lots of movement upfront.

coutinho and fiminho will provide that but a 3rd guy will help alot especailly if sturridge has injury problems again.

maybe insigne or mertins from napoli? or lavezzi even from psg

I would of tried to get at least one big name, one world class player who's been tried and tested.

I remember when my hoover broke, I bought 2 or 3 cheap hoovers, they had big potential, I mean £30 you can't go wrong right? They lasted 6 months at best. I gave up wasting money and bought a Dyson, expensive yes £300 but does a fantastic job and has been going strong for 4 years now. See what I'm saying???
