Clubs can't have it both ways. They can't be happy to take all the money provided by the broadcasters but then moan when a game is moved for TV purposes.

That's fine for PL games which are scheduled months in advance but in this case it was a few weeks and City simply wanted it to be not so close to an away trip to Kiev, especially given they have a final on the following Sunday. I think most clubs would have put out a shadow side under such circumstances.

Kevin Stewart's being awarded with a new four year contract. Good to see he's been noticed, still disappointed about his ill-timed injury.

Also since it's not been mentioned, someone's noticed Xabi Alonso has a JFT96 sticker in his part of the Bayern Munich dressing room.

Liverpool Gossip.

Liverpool are considering triggering the £6.2m release clause in the contract of 28-year-old Real Betis goalkeeper Antonio Adan.

Meanwhile, the first steps towards the redevelopment of Liverpool's stadium could be taken on Friday, with the council expected to approve plans for the £260m Anfield regeneration project, which includes a new hotel and business hub. (Liverpool Echo)

This should be more welcome news after the owners last week scrapped controversial plans for £77 tickets.

According to TIA:

Quote:
“Augsburg are without seven first team players due to injury, including striker Raul Bobadilla who limped off in the first leg.”

That's us getting beat then!

Fortunately I don't think Klopp will let the players underestimate them and think it'll be a walk in a park.

Quote:
“Daniel Sturridge says his future is at Liverpool after accusing his critics of "disrespect".

It has been reported the striker, who has played nine games this season due to injury, wants to leave Anfield over criticism of his fitness record.

"I think it is astonishing, disappointing - whoever is saying it - but that's football.

"I am very ambitious, very determined to help Liverpool have success."

"To say a player doesn't want to play is the biggest disrespect you could ever say to a footballer," he added.

Manager Jurgen Klopp has spoken of his frustrations over Sturridge's fitness and several former Anfield stars have said it is time for the club to sign a replacement.

Chris Sutton, who won the Premier League with Blackburn, questioned the mentality of Sturridge, saying players would say he has a heart 'the size of a pea'.

"I don't think anyone will understand how much it means to me to play football and I'll continue to do my best and focus on Liverpool," he said before Thursday's Europa League match at home to FC Augsburg, with the tie goalless.
"It's important to worry about the present. It has been a difficult time being injured but it is part of football and now I'm looking forward to the future, of course with Liverpool."

Sturridge joined Liverpool from Chelsea in January 2013 and went on to score 28 times for club and country in 2013-14.

But he missed five months of last season with a thigh injury suffered on England duty, and also had treatment for calf and thigh problems before returning.

He then picked up a hip injury against Manchester United in March, which cut short his season and led to an operation in May.

The 26-year-old England international still has two-and-a-half years to run.”

Very disappointing when its your own fans to accuse a player of such a thing.

Agreed. No doubt his head was already all over the place during those tough months where he couldn't play, and coming back multiple times with the fear of something else going wrong. The last thing he needed was his own fans getting on his back too. He gets hate because he suffers lots of little niggly injuries whereas Ings is out for the season and people are showing him tons of support.

As soon as he comes back into the side he shows everyone why he's the best striker in the league when fully fit bar Aguero. We cannot let a player of that calibre go lightly.

In case anyone's assuming it's a normal kick off tonight, we're kicking off early at 6:00 p.m. presumably thanks to TV.

Evening everyone, here is the line up for tonight's match.

Starting XI : Mignolet, Clyne, Lucas, Sakho, Moreno, Can, Henderson, Milner, Firmino, Coutinho, Sturridge

Subs : Ward, Toure, Benteke, Origi, Smith, Teixeira, Chirivella

Nice strong line up, am feeling hopeful.

Should probably be a couple of goals up after our near-total dominance of that half, but they're defending quite well and their goalkeeper is having a decent game. Hopefully we can get the 2nd goal soon and put the game to bed as Coutinho is getting a bit of a kicking and it's making me nervous for Sunday!

We are the kings of making it difficult for ourselves. Should have had the game wrapped up early on but just weren't good enough in front of goal (as usual). Thought Augsburg had done it with that free kick late on but it flew just wide of the top corner.

Still, we're through, so well done lads. Now onto Wembley.

A win and a clean sheet, not been enough of those in 2016 so I'll take it. Need to be a lot tighter defensively and more clinical up front on Sunday.

Wembley, the Red men are coming to pick up silverware from you again soon

Any player who took part in our FA Cup semi last season owes the fans and the shirt a huge game on Sunday.

Job done. On to the next one.

Glad the game is over to be honest, if only because the Setanta commentary was wanting to make me perform seppuku.
