Not sure why people are surprised Sturridge didn't take one. Sturridge is a great striker of the ball but penalties are a weakness for him.

We'll probably hammer them 7-0 on Wednesday!

Hindsight is wonderful isn't it? Of course Sturridge should've started. Supply line was poor. Hope it's better midweek.
He might struggle with another 90 minutes so soon after 120mins.

At least we have qualified for the Europa League
No we haven't, the team which finishes sixth in the PL will now qualify.

I said before the game I could handle losing as long as we turned up and had a go at them. Sadly, we didn't and in all honesty we didn't do enough threatening stuff in their half to win a cup.

Despite his penalty miss, I thought Lucas was probably our best player. I hope this new found versatility at CB convinces Klopp to keep him around next season.
Despite his goal, I thought Coutinho had a poor game. Yes there were far worse players oh the pitch for us, but we really need the likes of him to perform in big games.

Other random thoughts: Sturridge seemed to be spending too much time too deep for me; as a striker he should be in their CBs. I think Moreno will be lucky to still be with us next season . And Mingolet, a few good saves, but will be remembered, and slaughtered, for the poor one he let beneath him...such is a goalkeepers lot.

Thought the front three were all below par today but credit to City for a very effective line as they continuously caught us offside. Kompany makes a huge difference to their defence in terms of its discipline.

Talking of discipline, I suspect it won't end 11 vs 11 Wednesday.

Klopp: "If I was allowed to say shit I'd say this defeat feels shit, but I'm not allowed to say shit."

Yes, for the next game I agree - Klopp will be watching him closely in training I'd imagine. That said, he wasn't the only one looking leggy. The trouble with Coutinho and Firmino is that they aren't a consistent threat week in, week out - that's the sort of creative player we are crying out for to take us to that next level.

Lol, looks like some people forgot their Ultimate fantasy team. A few low-scorers with players who didn't play this weekend.

They should do that more often. Maybe it helps even things out for the mistakes I've made, like forgetting to make changes myself.

Sux to lose but I'm happy Pelligrini got it right. His a class act and the press were waiting with knives to slate him for not picking hart. Loyalty to players can't be underestimated.

I've had young people staying, they are very distracting, and always hungry, I had no time for games and such!

Anyways, you really do all need some help to catch up with me!

Lucas was superb yesterday. Had a feeling he would miss as things had went so well for him during the game. Funny how that regularly happens.

Yes Lucas had a great game, I'm a fan of his anyway (as I always feel he gives 100% to LFC) but I was a bit aggrieved at Carra & Quinn's Pre match comments, happily he had changed their minds by half time and they remained changed at full time. Lucas, considering his short stint at CB was excellent alongside Kolo Toure. Considering the opposition they both should be proud but sadly that penalty miss has got the haters out in force on social media, Lucas has his pen saved , gets direct twitter abuse from some, Coutinho hits(?) a ridiculous penalty and receives no abuse (not that he should) Twitter tweet Hendo YNWA, tweet Lucas - leave the club .....I know I shouldn't read it but it winds me up so much that a player who can never be faulted for his effort & desire to LFC receives abuse

Kompany was class with his words and actions I have to say.

Still pretty gutted today, CC or not I wanted a trophy for Klopp and the boys.

P.S. Anyone know if Alan is still on his hols? I remember reading he was going away for a few weeks but haven't noticed him posting since? Just curious.

Alan was due back home yesterday, he reckoned to be back the day of the LC?

I love Lucas, always have - one of those players that gives so much and seems to get sod all in plaudits back for his efforts. I always thought he should have been our captain too, he really does 'boss' the pitch, and has no qualms about voicing his views of where a player should be etc. He was captain for one match recently, and did a dammed good job too, it angers me no end when he puts in a superb shift, and then gets dammed by idiots who probably didn't even watch the game.

Still feel gutted for the lads, hope they rise up and hammer City on Wednesday - just to show what they really can do!

I saw quite a bit of negative reaction to him being played at centre back on Twitter and couldn't understand why. He'd done reasonably well on the couple of occasions he'd played there before. Despite only being 5'10 he seemed to be the one winning the most headers from set pieces, and he made the most interceptions and clearances of anyone on the pitch (tied with Kompany). You can never fault his effort or commitment.

As we have been for much of this season, we seemed to be lacking creativity in the middle of the pitch. We kept attacking down the wings despite not having any pace out there to trouble defenders. Neither Coutinho nor Firmino showed up which really hurt us as it meant Sturridge had to drop so deep just to get a touch of the ball.

Penalties are a real strange one for us. Clearly Sturridge and Origi didn't fancy it (Sturridge has missed 2 from 2 for us hasn't he?) so you're already struggling when your strikers can't take them. The best taker we had out there was undoubtedly Milner and I can only think he elected to go 5th which I'm not a fan of. Ronaldo did the same thing for Portugal at Euro 2012 and didn't get the chance to take one either.

Need the spirit of 2012 on Wednesday - that year we were narrowly beaten by Chelsea in the Cup Final on the Saturday but then demolished them midweek. You'd expect City to be a bit leggier than us having played an extra game in the last fortnight.

I hope we're fired up to face City on Wednesday. The league's pretty much over for us, but should still fight. I mean we're 9 points behind City, win and we're 6 points, so it's not exactly impossible but realistically I don't see is finishing fourth but why not try? If City are still fighting for the title with the same deficit why shouldn't we? They have fewer teams ahead of them but still.

I'd rather us do that than simply giving up now and only focusing on the Europa League. Otherwise it'll be a boring second half to the season.

However if there's not great pressure on us to finish in fourth I'd like us to try some younger players, like Danny Ward and Ojo, players who could be here next season, to give us something to be excited about for the following season.

From FB:

Tony Barrett - Jon Flanagan is in contention for a starting role against Manchester City on Wednesday
LFC are continuing to show an interest in Mario Götze, Piotr Zielinski & Ben Chilwell. (Tony Barrett)
When Guardiola was confirmed for City I thought Gotze might go there, hence him not renewing his Bayern contract.

If Klopp has a word with him though then why not?

And if Tony Barrett says it then it has to mean something.

Losing the final on penalties is a strange one.
If we had won,we would be on top of the world, but the loss leaves me feeling like the team isn't quite good enough.
It does feel like they are quite a bit better than Brendans team, but still toothless in front of goal sometimes. Perplexing......

No surprise. His well down the pecking order. Will do well somewhere else but his not right for this team. I dread to think the price he will go for.

Cost £32m, is on wages of £140k per week (£7.28m pa) till contract expiry Summer 2020. Whichever way you look at it, we will lose out, he's our highest paid player, and has earnt very little of the outlay for him.

Oddly though, I always feel sorry for the bloke, whoever brought him to Liverpool should be shot, like Carrol - he's not right for us.

Yeah, his wages will be a big problem for a lot of potentially interested clubs. Disappointingly, the Mail has a story telling of him not being interested in a move from Chinese club during the last window; China, of course, being one of the few places where he could actually increase his wages.

The Mail also reports that Teixeria hasn't had his contract renewed yet and could leave for nothing in the summer. I know it's been very hard for him to get into the team and make his mark, but still seems crazy letting him go for nothing. The Metro also has him linked ( actually in talks ) with Fiorentina.

The same with Flanno; I think he deserves another contract, even if it is a relatively short-term one, I'd think he'd accept it. I wonder if his rumoured starting place tomorrow will be RB or LB? I wouldn't be surprised if it's the latter. Moreno is not quite a disaster, but tha's still a position where we could make a big improvement. And if I was allowed to be chucking the money around, I'd throw some in the direction of Ricardo Rodriguez or Andrew Robertson!

Not really - it IS tie same players BR had, just with some restored belief. Sturridge has only just got fit so will spark and fade for a while until he gets match fit. Once Klopp brings in some players he trusts will execute his plan, we'll remain erratic. The fitness demands of Klopp's pressing require a full pre-season to bear fruit too, I suspect some of the players are really feeling it.
