Lol, yeah we're lucky, maybe their lives would've been easier had we played pretty much as much football as it is possible for us this season.

I dont think we should be happy about winning tonight as City were so awful they would have probably lost Aston Villa if they were facing them tonight

If you don't think we should be happy beating Man City 3-0 then you might as well just stop watching football. Or at least Liverpool. This thread's dead most of the time except for when people are moaning, don't need more moaning about a win!

You have to say City did make us look good

No I don't have to say it, and I choose not to.

Jurgen says the only word to describe it was "BOOM"

I agree

Rightly so, it's so easy for clubs like Liverpool (or Utd) that whenever they get a good result over the last couple of years everyone just says the other team didn't turn up. The opposition will only play as well as you let them and there is no doubting the quality Man City had on the field. 3-0 is an amazing result.

Exactly. Whether they played well or not we still did well to win 3-0. No matter how they play we have to turn up ourselves, there are plenty of times where we don't show up or walk over teams when they're there for the taking, the game against Norwich for example. It's easy to dismiss a good result by claiming the opposition were poor but that's just lame, and it tends to be something rival fans do to rubbish an achievement, odd to see it coming from another Liverpool fan.

Doesn't matter how the opposition do we have to do our own thing and we did. We could have easily been poor, especially after Sunday, and maybe scraped a 1-0 win, instead we actually turned up and took advantage of any weaknesses.

Klopp said the team were using anger from the loss at the weekend to get the win. If that's right, Palace and Utd are in for a battering!

Great win. Crisp passing good to see. Enjoyed it.

Absolutely not. We were all over City like a rash and somehow kept it up for 90 minutes. That was the secret - cut off the supply line to Aguero and Silva. We rendered City ineffective, frustrated them and over 90 minutes this disrupted them rhythm. The Flanagan reducer on Sterling was an obvious part of the gameplan and worked a treat as well plus set the tone for the "in your face" strategy.

City have been average away from home all season in the league so we always had a chance of testing their mentality and made sure we did just that. I don't think we can maintain that intensity week on week but the decision to do so against City was a calculated one and paid dividends big time. Let's hope we've got enough in the tank for the weekend (although Sturridge and Coutinho will be back). Resting Phil was another ploy that worked as a 100 mph game with wall-to-wall pressing was likely to suit the players who turned out last night.

All in all, great stuff front Klopp and the lads.

I'd prefer to say we made City look bad.
I can't believe anybody is dissapointed with that result or performance, even Grouty was upbeat about it, so it's surprising to see some others weren't.
To those saying the 3 points aren't important, I suggest they look at the league table, we're 6 points off fourth, and still have an outside chance of finishing in a CL place, besides I want us to pick up as many points as possible and finish as high as possible, I'd rather we finished 5th than 10th.

This result means little to me because we lost the more important game over the weekend. Also, Liverpool are still likely to finish outside of the Europa League places this season, so at best, this result provides us with a tiny bit of confidence. But this will not help against the 'smaller teams' that we'll face until the end of the season.

BS. Two wins over City, a win over Leicester, a draw vs Arsenal and a draw at Spurs shows that the Manager can get results against the sides at the top of the table. Its nothing but positive seeing the side beat city 3-0.

We've won our last 2 PL games scoring 9 goals without reply, we've only conceded one goal in our last 5 games, so things seem better defensively.
Apart from the CO Cup final defeat I don't think there's anything to be unhappy about.

The people that come in here to have a good moan because we won a match? They can't be Liverpool supporters surely? Fine to come in and have a downer when we have lost badly (which we really didn't do on Sunday to be frank, they won because they had a goalie literally on the ball), but to come in here after the whole team played well, and won is just not on - unless of course you're actually City supporters?

And a decent shot at top 4.

Definitely, if the gods are with us injury-wise.

The usual moaners come across as bitter, rightly or wrongly. It's either not adjusting to the fact it's not the 80s any more (and some teams have far more resources than us) or they haven't recovered from the massive cold turkey effect of the end of the 2013/2014 season.

BR operated most of last season without our best forward and the disaster that was Mario Balotelli. Benteke was an upgrade on Balotelli but doesn't fit Klopp's style so pretty much Jurgen has been in the same boat.

We can score goals when given space (hence we've done well when teams attack us and/or away from home) but when teams defend deep and break we struggle without a match fit Sturridge as you need a decent marksman when space and opportunities are limited - so we've struggled at home against teams that sit deep.

Let's see who we buy in the summer - pretty much a new spine of the team I'd imagine. We have decent depth in some areas and the squad's not wafer thin.

We're going in the right direction and last night's performance demonstrated that. How people target a narrow League Cup penalty shootout loss against City as a reason to lament I don't know.

Wow, that was a great game last night, I enjoyed it from the very 1st minute.

Of course we'd all have loved for that result on Sunday but sadly it came a few days later. I did say to a City fan at work that I'd do him a deal we win CC them PL game he took it but sadly City themselves reneged on the deal and therefore we stuffed them, rightly so

Seriously though until the 83rd min of their match we were within 4 points off Man Utd (who are still in the mix of things maybe) and thought hang on, if we can string 3 straight wins together here we'll be right back in the mix too. That still applies of course but we need to get that consistency going now, Spurs have shown what stringing a few consecutive wins together can do.

I thought Lallana was superb, dazzling footwork at times and had by far his best ever game for us. Milner too was brilliant, and special mentions also from me to Flano (made Sterling not want it from the off ha, resulting in his sub) and Kolo , great shame we never had Kolo before his City stint, he seems twice the player that made errors v WBA & Fulham a few seasons ago, gets better with age.

Well done boys, but please more of the same, keep that level ...

Great result last night but I would have swapped it for a win on Sunday.

Oh well, on we go.

Interesting stuff here and here about the ongoing legal battle over the purchase of the club in 2010.

Quote:
“Former Liverpool FC owner George Gillett is still paying £125,000-a-month in debt repayments for his ill-fated purchase of the Reds - five years after he lost control of the club. ”

Please excuse my posting but I have to say that I do like Klopp. He's very endearing.

Yes, his post match interview on Wednesday was very entertaining! I do think he has a dark side though which he mostly reserves for tie players I suspect...

It's the King's birthday today. Kenny Dalglish turns 65.

Link.

Quote:
“Former Liverpool FC owner David Moores in hospital after masked burglar attack...

Mr Moores, 69, was assaulted during the raid and later taken to Aintree Hospital with leg and head injuries. He is now said to be in a stable condition and Lancashire Police are appealing for information.”

I hope he recovers ok.

That makes me feel old - remember him joining us nearly 40 years ago! He's an OAP!

Looks like Lucas has picked up an injury. Could be out 5-6 weeks. Our CBs are so cursed even the cover gets injured.
