We've won 3 consecutive PL games for the first time this season.
As we're now only 3 points behind United with a game in hand we must be considered as challengers for a CL place, that is why the poster who said the 3 points against City weren't important was talking nonsense.

It's a sad indictment on the season overall that this is the first time we've managed an actual run of games that have all ended in wins.

I want to like Milner, but we were more effective once he was sent off..

I also feel like Henderson needs to grab games a bit more, he's so....passive.

Good win today though, against a side that recently Liverpool have struggled to beat. No complaints from me on that score!

Do we play Everton and Chelsea at home and when do we play our game in hand

Got to say a lucky win and for me not a penalty - but I'll take it cos we have had matches when we have deserved more and not got anything so overall it evens itself out.

Comparing that to the MCFC game tho shows what a frustrating team LFC are as for much of the game we were simply poor. Lallana to name one was great V MCFC so of course he starts today and he was very underwhelming - but there were others too, I just felt that today we had some of our dodgier recent performers in the team like Moreno and even Sakho playing with Sturridge and Coutinho maybe our most exciting 2 only on the bench. As some have said a midfield of Can, Milner and Hendo does not create much - and Firmino too was a bit anonymous until he scored. For me Origi was maybe the one out of the 'front 6' I would be most positive about as he was direct and largely strong and pacey even tho we had very few attempts on goal and even fewer on target.

When we went down to 10 I felt we did improve but CP to an extent only had themselves to blame as they let us go at them a bit by sitting back and even then we only equalised due to keeper howler. Then with 1 min to go our CBs sent it back to Mig and generally time wasted for about 30 seconds so no way were we really going for a winner and then at 15 seconds to go we get into their box their defender makes a silly challenge and makes minimal contact with Benteke. Like almost all modern strikers he took the opportunity to fall and the rest is history - won't blame the officials too much as to me it looked a pen at first but really if pens are given for that then it is a slippery slope - I'd have hated it against us.

A few days ago I said 5th was the highest we could finish - who knows now - altho even now I doubt we can get top 4 but with 9 games to go and only 6 points to make up we cannot write it off yet

Yes we do and I don't think dates have been set yet.

For Grouty and company, that win means we can't be caught by Aston Villa. For the rest of us, a 4-0 win in our game in hand and we'll overtake United...

Delaneys knee hairs knocked Christian flying... no doubt about it

Do people actually watch the replays Benteke foot shook / wobbled just like boxer's faces distort in slomo when they are punched. It was a significant contact, enough to brink him down? He's the only one that knows that.

I've made that sort of challenge myself, it's definitely enough contact but the way he went down was a little dramatic.

I seem to remember Skrtel giving away a penalty in not all too dissimilar circumstances...a while ago...I think it was Skrtel anyway.

If in doubt, guess Skrtel.

Even Skrtel would applaud Moreno's "I've got away with it once, let's foul him half a second later to see if the officials are completely blind" strategy in a recent penalty horror show (Norwich?). I'd always look for Phil Neville after ANY penalty award, even if he wasn't playing...

It's probably quite churlish of me to have enjoyed Pardew's rage almost as much as the three points, bit that's football. As is soft penalties!

It's without doubt a lucky three points. We didn't play well enough to merit a win and again we were lacklustre going forward and created almost nothing. Palace did threaten more with the ball when they had it, but overall I thought we defended quite well ( though we had the opportunities to clear the ball when they scored ) . Zaha looked their main threat; I think most of their fouls, and all our bookings, came from challenges on him.

I'd say Lovren was or best player; Can seemed to have a decent game too, but with him is hard to tell as he's always all over the pitch and nearly always in camera shot, so looks can be deceiving.

I thought it was a penalty, then saw the replay and thought maybe not, then saw it again from behind the goal and there was a definite knock on the ankle and for a player moving at any sort of speed that would be enough to upset their balance and bring them down. Of course it's soft and I'd have been annoyed with one like that against us, but the defender took the risk. Well done to Benteke taking it as well; it was a really nice pen.

Pardew can rant and rave all he likes, but he couldn't beat a ten men Liverpool playing poorly
because his keeper made a howler and a defender took a careless risk; his own team's fault.

Anyone else worried about Henderson? I think his limitations really stand out when his asked to play in a 2 man midfield. His extremely safe when given the ball.

I'm not sure I'd class it as worried but I think he's gone backwards since the end of last season. He was utter cr@p under Kenny (mainly on the right mind), he got very good in our poetry in motion season bit is back to bad this season. For me he's struggling to merit his place in the team never mind being club captain!

Liverpool have now scored 21 goals in the Premier League in 2016, more than any other Premier League side. Considering we've been having goalscoring problems it doesn't make the Premier League sound very good!

No doubt. I think his strengths are his engine and 3rd man runs but don't think he has the skillset to play in a double pivot.

If this is how we plan to set up next year I think his place is well under threat.

I think we'll see a much better Henderson next season if he gets treated properly with him still recovering from an injury, and if he gets a good pre-season as well as whatever benefits he gets from other players around him. He might not remain captain but he'll do well for us next season, provided England don't ruin him. I'd rather he not play for England to be honest since he hasn't done great for England so far and people don't appreciate him in an England shirt, and so far he hasn't exactly earned his spot, but since he plays for Liverpool he's going to go and he's going to play.

Not sure his injury can be blamed. He looks mobile enough to me its just what his doing now is falling back into some bad habits. He takes far to many touches of the ball only to result in passing it 5 yards sideways. His influence in games currently is pretty minimal.

With Grujic coming in if I had to pick who out of Can and Henderson would make way, I would say Henderson.

Henderson has probably been asked by Klopp to play in a slightly different way. We know he has a decent range of passing and likes to link up with the attacking players but I feel he is being asked to anchor things a little more and stay deeper. I agree he will be better (like quite a few) following a full pre-season. I suspect Klopp would prefer a quarterback-style DM whose main love in life is breaking up play and launching attacks - such as Alonso. Henderson will work well alongside such a player but is more effective getting forward than anchoring things. Emre Can also likes to drive forward as does Milner so Henderson probably feels obliged to rein things in a bit and it doesn't play to his strengths.

Turns out that was the first time Liverpool have ever come back from behind to win with 10 men.

I was watching the game with my sons after pausing it, having been out earlier. Wife came in 2 minutes from the end announced that we had won with a last minute penalty. Spoiler or what lol

I disagree -surely we did it when Mario was "playing". - I see he got subbed after 55 minutes without getting a single touch in the opponent's box...

I'd be interested if anyone can find any examples of such a comeback, for two teams from the same division. I remember Leeds holding out for a draw despite being down to nine men before the half time whistle had even blown!

Anyone watch the under 21's tonight? A lot of people on here (and mainly on the LFC forums) wonder why Teixeira doesn't get more first team chances.

Sheyi Ojo scored a hattrick and played brilliantly! Completely dominated the opposing full back. Sheyi Ojo should be ahead of Teixeira by a long way.

Why is it either/or? You talk as if supporting Tex (as I am not ashamed to say I have done and still do) is somehow a bad thing. Personally I am a fan of both and think both have deserved more chances.

Why Tex has the sympathy of myself and others is maybe cos last season he played almost the full season for Brighton and did brilliantly winning their player of the season. Then BR in his wisdom decided not to put him in the EL squad thus wrecking his chances of getting game time in the main cup where he might have done.

Ojo played for Wigan last season and did OK but did not set the world alight - the same with his loan spell at Wolves earlier this season but in the games V Exeter he impressed me and now he seems to be really coming into his own. I did not see tonight's game but the reports do not surprise me as to me it is clear Ojo is a player with huge potential. If JK is looking to get good wingers in (and he has seemed to imply he is) surely he has to give Ojo a chance before spending on someone else - most probably from abroad.

The problem with our squad is it is too big and with JK likely to bring in his own players over the summer I think there will inevitably be casualties - some of whom are good players - and sadly I think Tex will be one as he is unlikely to get chosen over Coutinho or Firmino. He is however good enough to get game time in a top league and it is pretty clear he is not going to get much if any at LFC - so who can blame him if he opts to go? - especially as he is 23 already. Who else goes will be interesting to see - I hope Ojo doesn't - he has the advantage over Tex of being younger so he can afford to stay at LFC for longer to see if he can eventually get into the first team
