If we keep up this form we can win this Europa league but we want to avoid Dortmund in the next round as they are the best team in the competition

Jeez, Utd are getting ripped to pieces by Scholes and Rio.

Our manager would probably know a thing or two about Dortmund!!

The job is only half done though, feet on ground for Old Trafford next week.

I wanted 2-0 or 3-0 so very happy indeed. An away goal next weeks and I'll (probably) be delirious. Nothing's won yet, though. Where would United be without de Gea?

Your right we dont want to be complacent as they are playing at home but we just need an away goal and we are through

Great win tonight. Been a while since I've felt that special feeling after a win!

Only disappointment was that we didn't score more. Every player wanted it more than Man Utd's players, you could clearly see that.

Man Utd fans can moan all they want about dubious penalty's and offsides. We were comfortably the better team tonight and the scoreline was very fair.

I expect there's likely to be Munich chants in the return leg after this but can't we just put these vile chants to bed once and for all.

Great game of football. We have to be disappointed that we didn't score 3 or 4 in the first half that would have put this tie to bed. However, all the problems are in Utd's basket and if they open up and come out attacking us then that'll give us some more space to exploit and grab that away goal that will, I think, be enough to see us through.

MOTM was probably De Gea ( again! ), but I thought our best performers ( out of a great team effort from everyone ) was between Henderson, Firmino and Lallana.

I was also quite impressed by the managers tactical changes. LVG bringing on Carrick brought them back into the game and once Klopp saw the way the game patterns was changing, he made that big call to bring off Sturridge and steady the midfield again and get us re-asserting ourselves on the game.

Thankful now we don't have a game this weekend and looking forward to next week.

Well, this is more than enjoyable and will remain that way if we keep the clean sheet.

Not being funny but I genuinely thought Utd had a corpse in their support a moment ago, that old fella looked really pale.Good on him for making the journey and being out in the cold though
Fergie ?

It would be great if our away support could unfurl a banner in the 58th minute next week saying something like "Remembering Munich 1958 - Football rivalry should never be bigger than life and death" and standard silently for one minute.

Until one set of fans is big enough to make such a gesture, things won't change, sadly.

Even if that happened, it wouldn't change, I'm afraid.

There will always be the 'idiot element'. It's the relative anonymity. The internet provides an even better platform for these morons.

The fact that this match would have been televised all over the world, to 100's of millions of people will not have done United a lot of good re that chanting. It's something these moronic fans need to realise, it's not just them v LFC fans on view.

Sad and sickening.

Fellaini is probably in the shit as well for an off the ball foul on Can.
Probably??? - definitely I would have thought if there is any justice in the world. I think he is maybe my most hated player these days with constant fouls, moaning, elbows ...etc - after he had been booked even before the Can incident he committed 3 or 4 more fouls so he was even lucky to make it to the last minute.

But leaving that aside - I am a very happy boy - could not have gone better (well apart from a goal or two more). Every LFC player was good tonight. A real team performance. You would think 2-0 is good enough and a goal at OT would more or less kill it as they would then have to score 4 but we cannot take anything for granted with them as so often they have done us and it would be unwise to crow too much. But...

BOOM!! - as someone once said

Yep plenty idiots. I went to OT for the FA cup semi in 2006 vs Chelsea. I saw plenty moronic Liverpool fans tearing up the away end , writing graffiti on the walls celebrating Munich.

Fantastic performance. That was the sort of Liverpool I hope to see from Klopp in the future. But for De Gea it could have been a rout. Everyone played well but the standout performers for me were Clyne, Hendo and Firmino. Allen also deserves a mention for doing a great job of coming on and helping us see out the win.

It'll be interesting to see how they come at us next week. We'll surely be fresher after a break this weekend while they face West Ham in the FA Cup, and then after the 2nd leg they've got a trip to the Etihad to contend with so I wonder if LVG will prioritise.

Also, I didn't see the Can/Fellaini incident until after the game, but here's hoping UEFA act upon it. He already gets away with far too much.

Seems it was a good decision to stay up and watch the match. Staying up until 10 sounds stupid but I had to get up at 4 this morning to go to Microsoft HQ in Reading with my university, and will be getting home at about 11:30 tonight. Long day that I made slightly more difficult. Worth it!

Clyne has been pretty solid defensively all season, it's going forward where he seems to get things wrong, but do have to agree that yesterday he was brilliant. Most of United's pacy and dangerous players were on his side and he did really well in containing them.

Did anyone else notice Firmino drop deep and collect the ball and then with one drop of the shoulder take Schneiderlin out of the game, he did it a few times in the 1st half? It's the kind of play you need when a team sits back in 2 banks of 4.

I thought Joe Allen was superb when he came on. Such a good player when receiving the ball and then turning in one motion.

He used to receive a fair amount of stick from some of our fans. I actually think he's quality. He's certainly added more than say Milner, and I say that as a fan of Milner.

Posted in neutral thread but prob better suited to here

While Liverpool have been woefully inconsistent they have a real chance to finish the season strongly. Bar Tottenham at home (and that's a winnable one imo) and the Everton game in hand, they have no "big" team left to play at all. Stoke and Southampton are the height of it, and if they can play like last night they shouldn't have problems in either of those. It's mostly bottom half teams

Huge chance to finish 5th (I'd be amazed if the top 4 doesn't finish like it is), which psychologically would do them good heading into next year. Heck if City or Arsenal do somehow fall away Pool should be the best placed team to take advantage given the run in

The Summer will be huge for them though. Looking forward to seeing Klopp being given a chance to build a team. they have a lot of mediocre players now, but a few big signings and why shouldn't they challenge for the league? Hard to see Spurs or leicester having the same hunger levels, United are a mess, Arsenal will never do it under Wenger, while it could well be all eggs in the Europe basket for City again. Chelsea could well be in another rebuilding phase when they ship out some of the prima donnas
