Well now we've made a balls of this.

That third goal was awful. Bad clearance from Mignolet, poor from Skrtel and again Southampton have the ball high up the pitch when we were exposed.

Should of put Kolo on instead of Skrtel.

The right side very poor 2nd half. Flanagan and Skrtel.

Yep. Every time we've looked like we might have a sniff at top 4 this season, we've done that. I shouldn't be surprised.

Skrtel looked like he was making his professional debut or something. Just awful.

2 new central defenders needed in the summer. Skrtel and Sakho have been ruthlessly exposed today. Liverpool wire dire in the second half. Worst 45 minutes under Klopp.

Suspected Liverpool would either draw or lose as soon as Mane came on.

That was a tale of two halves if ever there was one. Wrong subs from Klopp today IMO. Talk about collapsing.

Sakho? This was all on Skrtel or even Klopp for playing him instead of Toure. We had one CB 2nd half. Sakho and Lovren were fine and then Skrtel comes on and suddenly Pelle starts having an influence.

Would have been better keeping Lovren on with the yellow than bringing on Skrtel. If we went to ten men, park the bus at 2:0 up and get the 3 points.

I'm surprised he took of Lovren just cos he was on a yellow. That was a big error.

I know. There aren't many matches left. A bird in the hand and all that. If Lovren gets a red Klopp can deal with that down the line.

"LFC have conceded as many goals in 40 minutes with Martin Skrtel in the team than their previous 795 minutes without him."

Squawka stats have Skrtel winning zero tackles, zero blocks, zero interceptions and giving away a penalty.

Reports said he was awful for the under 21's in midweek as well. Toure on the other hand has played well.

It was always going to be tough if Southampton got a goal back - they're hardly a poor side. We had our chances to finish the game earlier but a 2-0 lead away is always more precarious than it's looks against decent sides. Skrtel is all effort but has always been so rash and gets too close. We all know we're vulnerable defensively and today just reinforces that sadly.

The team did look tired in the last 20-25 mins but even then Benteke could of won the match.

Skrtel messes up the whole back line as he always drops deeper. Don't know why he has this fascination with dropping deeper than his teammates

I know klopp was praising skrtel for making the trip for the U21 game in midweek but he got it wrong today. Toure has been playing well so should be ahead of skrtel.

Skrtel had a shocker.

Just heard the score as couldn't watch, wtf!, heard we were 2 up after half hr, but lost 3-2.

EDIT: Utd looking to extend the gap on us, currently 1 up.

We started the day hoping to be level on points with United, but we've ended it 6 points behind them.
4th place is definitely out of the question now, not that I ever thought it was realistic anyway. 6 of our remaining 9 games are at home, not that that's necessarily a good thing given our poor record at home this season, though it has improved recently. We must finish in the top 6 to ensure an EL place, though it would be nice if we could win it this season and go into the CL, I wouldn't bet on that happening though.

I don't think a season out of Europe would be that bad. Obviously winning the Europa and going into the CL would be nice but if not I wouldn't mind a season just focusing domestically.

Not so long ago most LFC fans including me said our best CB back pairing was Sakho and Skrtel but now I think almost everyone (including me!!) would say Sakho and Lovren. Matip to come into the mix too after the summer = who knows!! Until I see him play a few times i am not saying Matip is a definite starter but I think if he is any good he will be. We will take a look pre season.

Skrtel I am afraid will never be in the first choice again after today's shambles - and maybe not even get another game but that would be sad for him to go out on that note as over the years he has done plenty of good things too. I am not looking forward to watching it on MOTD but I will force myself to.

Benteke too is looking as if he will not survive the summer cull - and others out will prob be Tex (as he will not get the game time his talent deserves and I would not blame him for moving on) and I hope Moreno (altho I cannot blame him for today ). Not sure I like the rumours about Hendo but if he went it would not be the end of the world - provided we got a good replacement in. Mig could stay but I want another keeper in as first choice as he does not inspire confidence at all and is always liable to make a rick.

As ever for LFC another busy transfer summer is in store - I wish it was not like this as I think stability is far better but with Klopp now in as boss he has the right to select some new blood and hopefully he will get in some gems and not make too many mistakes. You can put up with the odd bad one but the last 2 summers we have brought in 7 or 8 each time and very few have been what you call real successes and some have been disasters.

Well today was so disappointing at the end. We should not be losing 2 goal leads held after 63 mins to any PL team imo. Game management has to be better.

Klopp it seems has to take his share today if true that the only reason Lovren was replaced was because of his yellow card?

Even if he felt that necessary kolo has been immense this season and should have been ahead of Skrtel in the pecking order, on merit! Why not Kolo, who has not let Liverpool down this season. Skrtel even managed to get himself sent off last week for the unders!

Benteke misses another chance and then we implode, very annoying. 4th gone now realistically, to think after 83 mins we were 4 points behind 4th place. What Klopp said weeks ago still aplies now clearly - we are not even consistent during the same game let alone different games!

Louis Van Gaal said that Liverpool lost because we played in the Europa League so we were not as fresh You know what he is probably right

Mine have been Lucas & Kolo

But it does seem Skrtel will be last in the pecking order. As you say sad end really, as he was perhaps close to leaving last season as he didn't like the pay as you play type contract being offered, or was it a 1 year contract? Either way he got his way but has lost his game since it appears.

With regards Hendo rumours, have to admit to being not bothered really as I think he's had a poor couple of season's, put that with his bad start to his LFC career and he's had more poor seasons than good seasons.

No, don't see it. Too many excuses can be bandied about for losses, we were excellent 1st half, replacing Lovren with Skrtel wasn't a good call and we simply lost our bottle 2nd half, EL game on Thur shouldn't be an issue, it wasn't for Man Utd today!

Hindsight is a wonderful thing - everyone is having a go at JK for putting Skrtel on and yes it did turn out to be a disaster but he is an international defender who has shown he can play in the PL countless times - so why not ease him back into the team when the game looked so comfortable with us in total charge? Nobody would have expected it to turn out how it did as we were so on top. Also Benteke is an international striker who has scored many times in the PL and he needs to regain his confidence so put him on as Studge tired to maybe nick one on the break - and he could have done but as has happened many times he missed an easy chance. Also it seemed that JK was not happy with his pressing as on the radio it said he was shouting at him to work harder

Now you think either keep Lovren on or put Kolo on and maybe put Hendo on to replace Studge to shore it up rather than put an attacker on - but as i said hindsight is a wonderful thing.

Milner and Lucas not being available was unfortunate as I think they would have helped us not to fold - but then most teams have had injuries and suspensions so it is wrong to point to that too much.

BTW even tho I am a big Lucas fan i do not see his future at CB!! - but he has showed he can do a job there if asked and we need to remember that.

I really hate Graziano Pelle He plays great at the start of each season when it is sunny and scores loads of goals Then the weather gets colder and he wishes there was a winter break He then comes back from hibernation and just when the weather gets warmer he scores two goals at Stoke and now he scores against us and wins Southampton the game
