I am one who does want more normal relations between MUFC and LFC but whether it is possible I am not sure given the fact that no player has gone between the 2 clubs since Phil Chisnall in 1964 whilst MUFC constantly deal with EFC and indeed any other club in the league but LFC. Even when Heinze wanted to go to us and we met the asking price no way would SAF sell him to us such is his hatred for LFC - mind you we maybe dodged a bullet there as after leaving MUFC he was not that good!!
For MO at the time I guess to join MUFC given that the choice was effectively Hull or them maybe was not that surprising but other things come into it - what he said when he joined them, how he left LFC first time round and for me the fact that he was not prepared to stay at NUFC and help them win promotion cos the season he had for them when they went down had been a major reason for their relegation. No loyalty at all - but Michael Owen does not do loyalty.
The truth is too that cos of his LFC links he was never truly accepted at MUFC and so he now finds himself to be a figure with no admirers in football. (any MUFC or NUFC DS posters want to come on here and tell us different like how much they like MO? - no thought not!!). As I said there are countless former LFC players who would be more suitable to be the clubs international ambassador - in fact I can only think of Diouf or Lawrenson who would be worse choices than Owen - and I think it is a very bad appointment. The only good side is that it may mean the end of his career as a pundit
