Tancredi Palmeri - beIN Sports correspondent, CNN/Gazzetta dello Sport contributor has tweeted LFC interest in Reus is real:

@tancredipalmeri

Liverpool's contacts with Reus are true. Still no bid. Reus apparently more keen of Real Madrid, but Liverpool been working intensely on that

Not getting my hopes up, Would be a signing and a half but seems to be one of those rumours were everyone gets their hopes up then it is used as a stick to beat the recruitment personnel with the rest of the season.

Of course Liverpool are interested in Reus.

Pretty sure they would be interested in Messi too.

Interest doesn't mean anything will happen though.

That's not the same at all is it.

His not saying Liverpool are speaking to Messi's people trying to convince him to go to Liverpool are they.

I myself am quite surprised that the club are according to him are trying to actively get Reus onside.

Me too. It's a massive show of ambition to go after such a big name player, assuming the sources are legit.

Not going to get my hopes up though. If he was actually available I can't see why a club with CL football and more money than us wouldn't get him. If Madrid actually want him then that's where he'll go (although I struggle to see where he'd play unless Ronaldo, Bale or James Rodriguez are going to be benched).

There are rumours linking us with Mario Gotze. Don't think we'll get him, and we aren't short on attacking midfielders, but if we are actually attempting to go for players like Gotze and Reus then it's at least showing ambition.

If we want to keep up signing Man United targets, then Muller next, please, Ian Ayre!

I hope he hits ground running and casts away doubts, I was against this signing really as I felt there was other maybe better options for the money or a little more, But he is ours now so Welcome to Liverpool Christian!

I'm more than a little excited right now despite the big cash outlay. Hope he's a good fit for us!

While I'm not yet so convinced benteke is what we need I'm glad the club got him.

I think BR has given a lot more say than last year and its better the players he genuinely wants come in rather than those further down the list.

I'm really not buying the whole Rodgers needs a super start or will be gone.

The owners are backing him big time in the transfer market which to me suggests they have every faith in him.

Back to benteke I think BR wants more physicality and a playern who will occupy defenders giving more space for the likes of coutinho, lallana and firminho to work with.

It's going to be Sanchez all over again. There's no doubting the ambition of the club or that we can afford players of this caliber, it's just that we cannot also offer these players a realistic chance of a CL or PL winner's medal any time soon. If RM have the slightest interest they'll take Reus. If not I'm sure someone else will come along and snap him up before he signs for us.

We could never beat Real Madrid to a player regardless.

If reus has his heart set on Madrid it's no surprise considering they are the #1 biggest club in the world.

If the source is right and the club are trying to convince him then they must of had some sign that he would consider Liverpool .

As for Sanchez I seriously doubt he went to arsenal because he believed he had a realistic chance of winning the CL or PL.

I didn't want Benteke, but he's here now, and hopefully he can prove his worth to the team.

I wouldn't say Benteke was my number one target for us but now he's here I'm quite excited to see how he does.

Since he signed for Villa only Aguero, Suarez and RVP have scored more than him. He's much more than just a big man as some of his goals prove.

I particularly like the one against United at Villa Park at 2:47 on this video

Benteke is a great player. Think he will fit in well at Liverpool. What about Villa though are they just a selling club with no ambition?

Absolutely, really have high hopes of improving significantly on last season, our squad is looking pretty good, and frankly, I think the problem will be who NOT to play!

Am really looking forward to getting started now.

Liverpool's season will be all about Firmino and Benteke scoring goals, and lots of them. If they don't, and as with last season, no one else other than Coutinho scores goals, Rodgers will be gone. He lumped all the blame for last season on to Pascoe and Marsh, and he's got Benteke at great expesne, a player who very few other people at the club seemed to want.

If Liverpool are outside the top 4 at Christmas, Rodgers will have no one else to blame, and he'll likely be hanging around the streets of Liverpool with Benitez who'll probably be looking for a job as well. Telegraph are already reporting that Ronaldo's called Benitez's training sessions "shit".

Same here. Last season was ruined by a key player being injured and the backup options being not up to scratch. THat's far less of an issue now in attacking positions and, with Can released from defensive duties, midfield. Let's hope Gomez excels as that'll lessen concerns about defensive cover, which is probably now our weakest area. But overall an excellent squad depth and we are arguably capable of taking advantage of any slip ups by last season's top four. We should be looking at 4th given we're consistently the 4th highest spenders but it'll take a redistribution of fate!

I believe a lot will depend on how quickly Rodgers can work out a formation that gets the best out of the squad. Each season, it's almost been December before that has happened, however the way the fixtures are, it almost has to be after 5 or 6 games that we're playing a settled team and formation.

In short No is the answer - there is a lot about his post which you'd wish to dissect but I won't even go there. its not worth it and would only lead to unhelpful discussion and wasting of time.

I do feel pretty good about LFC now - which I certainly did not feel on the last day of last season after 6-1 at Stoke and some of the other stuff which was going on.

The biggest need was to get someone who would score for us and BR certainly saw that and has been trying to address it - Ings, Milner, Firmino and now of course Benteke. Who knows what they will be like but I am guardedly optimistic.

I'll admit Benteke would not have been my first choice as for that kind of money I felt maybe we could have got better and also there is a question mark about how much his style will suit us. Obviously we were most potent with Luis and Studge and a similar pairing would be nice and for sure Benteke is not Suarez but the thing is that he does score and if we create the chances hopefully he will put enough away for us to compete again. We will only know once we have seen him perform but we do have Ings and Origi waiting in the wings too so hopefully we will see LFCs strikers getting more goals - considering the pathetic goal output from our strikers last season it was amazing we even finished 6th.

I still tend to look at the top 4 from last season and wonder if we can finish above any of them but if anyone can we can so as ever we live in hope and make no rash predictions. As Kenny once said we will try to win every match we play and then add up the points at the end of the season to see where we finish
