There's been a story going around the past couple days about a Stephen Whittle, who has been named the 97th Hillsborough victim. Hasn't been mentioned on here so thought I'd do it. You've probably heard it by now and seen the picture of him touching the This Is Anfield sign but I'll mention it anyway.

Due to work committments he sold his ticket to the 1989 FA Cup semi-final to his mate, who became one of the 96. He lived with guilt, until 2011 when he took his own life by jumping in front of an on-coming train. He left £61,000 in his will to the Hillsborough families. Nobody who knew him noticed anything was troubling him to such an extent, he came across as a happy person, which sadly is often the case with suicide victims.

A sad story, living with such guilt when he shouldn't have had to, then he donates money to the families.

It really did have an effect on a lot of people, not just the people who went to that game, and the effects still being felt today.
Andy Burnham mentioned him in his speech to the commons.

I really feel for him. To have had to live with that much guilt must have been impossible.

I doubt there's anything particularly going on between Sturridge and Klopp. Klopp just seemed to have a specific plan in mind for this game.

Maybe he felt given Villareal's defensive strength, it needed something different to try and unlock it.

Definitely strange that he never brought Sturridge on though, but perhaps he was settling for the 0-0?

Yes, I knew the story of Stephen, another horribly sad statistic of Hillsborough. Reminds me of something I was told years ago "Don't cry for the dead, they are at peace, it's the ones left living that suffer". So very true.

I love Klopp and think he has been brilliant since taking over. I'm very optimistic about our future under him but I can't help thinking that he got it wrong last night. When you get to the latter stages of these European cups away goals become vitally important.

I was listening to talksport after the game and alot of Liverpool fans were calling in saying they felt Villarreal were there for the taking. I thought this too and with 20-30 minutes to go thought he would have brought a striker on to maybe try and nick an away goal. Whenever a cross went into the box last night there was nobody there to attack it, was quite frustrating.

Now I know we overcame Dortmund in the last round who are supposedly a stronger team than Villarreal but we went into the second leg level at Anfield, we are going in a goal down next week. With our suspect defence and goalkeeper is it really impossible we don't concede an away goal making it harder for us by needing to score 3. Are you all that confident we can blow these away without conceding at least one.

Just seems like he went to settle for the 0-0 when we really I think needed an away goal as they are so important in these ties and can be the difference so to not play a striker for 89 minutes to me seemed the wrong thing to do. However if we blow them away next week I will happily admit I am totally wrong but I hope our lack of attacking intent last night doesn't cost us next week.

I think the only good thing to come of it is we have to go for it next week from the start so Sturridge should play the whole game.

So is there anything going on between Klopp & Sturridge? I wasn't surprised he didn't play yesterday but the question is why? Is Klopp trying to keep him fresh for the summer for England or some other legitimate reason for not playing him or is there some personal reason? I can't beleive Klopp would be unproffessional like that but there's been a few rumours flying around for a while now and Klopp hasn't had the kindest work for Sturridge in the past.
Why would Klopp be bothered about keeping Sturridge fit for England? That's most definitely not the reason. I think it would have been acceptable if Origi was fit as he's done enough to merit his place but in his absence I do think Sturridge should have played. I know that same front 3 has had many an impressive game previously but last night Coutinho (illness) was poor, Firmino was poor. Sturridge should have at least came on.
Gutted with that stoppage time goal conceded, not sure why Moreno went awol at such a late stage, esp considering we had been pretty non committal for a lot of the game.
Here's hoping we go all out next week from the off, not be too patient, as a single goal by them makes our task that more difficult.

Yes knew of that apart from how he committed suicide. Now I know I feel very sorry for the train driver. With him living with guilt over the initial tragedy for all of those years it's such a shame that he couldn't see the trauma the train driver would then have to go through.
Sad all round.

I would have stuck Sturridge on instead of Benteke if wanting a win.

In that case it would have made no difference. Sturridge would not have scored in 4 mins playing time either.

sturridge will play at Anfield, and he will be gunning to make his stamp on the tie, I'm going with a massive win for us, because once we score, they will attack, and leave sturridge to run in behind. 5-0...

I can dream.......

I read on another forum that they've conceded 12 goals in their last 6 away games. Hopefully we smash them but I'll take any sort of win.

I wouldn't have waited until there was only 4 minutes left though

Danny Ings completes a full training session with the U21s. Some good news, he's on his way back!

Brilliant. He may not get to be our first choice striker, but he's about as dedicated as they come, and a real nice guy who's had a rotten season. Now get out there Danny and show Klopp what you're made of!

If he and Sturridge manage to form a lethal partnership I'll have to get the nickname "Double D" copyrighted.

Saturday night TV is normally a pile of rubbish, but last night's was just brilliant.

Found that we had somehow recorded the U18's match Chelsea v Liverpool from lunchtime yesterday, so took a look. What a bluddy match!! It was some of the best football I have seen from the unders - both teams were brilliant with some stunning players - we were glued to it.

When fouled they just rolled, got up running and carried on, the ref had to whistle to stop them to come back (older players take note!) and the energy levels were off the scale. Ended up 2-2, though frankly we did edge them for most of the match.

These are the future kids, some amazing performances with good mindsets - it's looking very good!

Why have Liverpool made 8 changes and yet there risking Coutinho and Lovren two vital players for the upcoming Europa match .

Not surprised they scored, we're bloody rubbish but that's understandable

Surely you would rather be back in the Europa league than no Europe at all if you don't win it.

The team suggests you don't want back in it

Danny Ward with some heroics to keep it at 1-0. Half-hearted defending causing us huge problems though.

No it doesn't. The team suggests we're focusing on Thursday. Nothing more than that.

It's not understandable at all, the team should be up for winning every game, they shouldn't be looking towards another match, besides that we still have European qualification to play for, while Swansea have nothing to play for.
