After having made a similar trip recently, I wanted to do nothing but sleep for 3 days, I would put a lot down to jetlag myself.

We drew 1-1 in a pre-season friendly (despite winning all the others)...

Guess that means we're doomed for the upcoming season...

You were happy and optimistic during the Women's World Cup. Try keep that up for a bit.

Yep, Malaysia is very hot and very humid, I was in Singapore during our 2005 CL win and couldn't imagine playing in that humidity. And KL was even hotter when I went there.

Let's see how we fare against HJK next week - assume it'll be closer to our starting XI vs Stoke.

Does anyone know how many more pre season games we have?

The reason I ask is cos there are certain players I want to see before the season starts in earnest - especially Illori but also Can in midfield, Benteke and Firmino. I do worry about our defence and see Illori as a key member of the various options we can play but until we see him in action we cannot really say too much either way. I would definitely prefer him as first choice back up to Sakho and Skrtel who are the obvious first choice CBs. As many will know I have no faith in Lovren at all and want him sold - once again we saw him at fault for a goal against V Malaysia. The last two I named are obviously key signings for us - expensive ones as well - so we need to see them as soon as possible so they can start to get used to their new teammates and that will help BR decide if they go straight in V Stoke or we need to give them more time to bed in. The issue of Can in midfield is another thing - many fans including me have him as the holding midfield player in our first choice team when everyone is fit but that is a role he has yet to really play for us. I think he needs time in that position pre season to get him used to the role as to put him straight in the team playing that role V Stoke would not be fair to anyone

HJK next Saturday and Swindon on Sunday - so I assume 2 separate teams with our best XI versus HJK.

Thanks Sloth - the first game is only 2 weeks away!! - its crept us on us hasn't it. Oh well lets at least see some of those I mentioned V HJK and of course there could be behind closed doors games too - and then hopefully BR will have seen enough to put them in V Stoke.

I am the original Mr Doom and gloom but I think we will do well this season. When we started our buying in this transfer window I wasn't so convinced but I think with what we have purchased they will work well together. Will it be enough to get top 4? I am not so sure, I think United will do better this season, will we be able to jump Arsenal? Maybe, City and Chelsea? Can't really see it.

I am not going to predict, Just need another cup final season every upcoming game is as important as the last, But this time the team have to ignore league positions and check the points tally after the last game.

I think we've a good chance of a cup this season.

don't understand that one at all. he's had two consecutive seasons out on loan. He comes back, signs a new long term contract and then we loan him out again. No disrespect to Norwich, but there's no obvious progression in terms of the club he's playing at either.

He's reached the age now (and the level of experience) where surely he's either ready for our first team or simply not good enough. I would have liked to have at least seen him given a chance.

Makes you wonder what's next for him and whether he's got any kind of future at LFC at all. Doesn't help our squad depth either as we have no obvious back up for Clyne. (Unless Gomez is going to be our back up RB as well as back up LB).

I feel a little sorry for Wisdom, after having been offered, and signed, a new deal he must've thought he was going to get a place in the squad. He's done his time out on loan and now he's fighting another season probably in the lower half of the league, possibly a relegation battle.

I think Gomez has impressed far more than the staff expected and he's jumped straight up the pecking order ahead of Wisdom and Ilori ( and where does he play this year? ) . I also understand that with the loss of Gerrard and Johnson we were losing a lot of experience from the squad and that's one of the reasons why Toure was offered another year, but he does take a squad place and an opportunity away from the likes of Wisdom and Ilori.

Did any of the papers go with "Nor man Wisdom"? I'd be disappointed if not...

Taurus' post sums up my feelings.

Like him I honestly thought that when he came back from WBA and was offered a new long term contract that was BR saying to Wisdom 'we will give you a chance to stake your claim to be the regular RB'. I was OK with that as whilst not spectacular to me he is solid and dependable and we could then use funds to buy players where I felt we needed them more = better strikers especially and alternative back up CB to Lovren. Then we bought Clyne who is a better bet at RB than Wisdom no question and he was only 12m so that pushed Andre back to being in reserve and now with Gomez having done well it seems he is not even going to be at the club next season and is sent on loan for the third season running - Derby, WBA now Norwich. If you think he is not good enough then just sell him Brendan!!

Illori too is a puzzle - I want him as the main back up CB this season but feel I need to see him play a bit more to confirm this view!! and now with him coming back late cos of the U21 Champs we are getting near to the start of the season and he has not played yet - altho I understand he may play for a Liverpool XI including also Can and others at Chester tonight - lets hope so and maybe also get some game time in Helsinki so we can assess his capabilities a bit.

I get like you, it's becasue of the last time we had any success in the league is just so long kinda like we lose faith but just stroll on in hope.

I'm changing my mind on Ings for I don't know why, I think he may do the bizz so I just put him in my fantasy team

Seen something on FB earlier today. Our Brazillian trio, Lucas, Firmino, Coutinho: LFC.

It's as if it was meant to be.

Brendan says Jordon Ibe will feature heavily this season.

That's good to hear. Though if we go far in the cups, including the Europa, then he'll be needed.

I was worried he'd not get many games with our attacking options, so I'm glad to hear Brendan say that.

Rickie Lambert's officially on his way to West Brom. Shame it didn't work out for him.

Good luck at WBA (except against us), Rickie!

I think he is a good example of those "squad player" signings that rarely work out for the big clubs. In many ways he was a great idea on paper, Liverpool fan, experienced, cheap, scored PL goals etc etc, but the reality is that he wasn't really good enough to be relied upon at a club the size of Liverpool.

One of those guys that looked like a good signing to boost the squad as long as you didn't actually have to play him!

...and he's already scored twice in the first half of his first friendly for then! I suspect their wide players and greater cross count will make him a far better fit there.

Lambert?

In the season prior to coming to LFC he scored 13 in 37 games, the one before that he scored 15 in 38 - I have just looked it up!! Not bad stats really and it had earned him an England place.

Logic would say that in a better team like LFC you'd expect him to score more - but when was football ever subject to logic!! Many said he was bought as a squad player, I am not sure I would concur with that in that had he scored at the level of his Saints days or better for us then he would have been on our team no question - but the truth is that despite always putting 100% effort in he never looked comfortable in our team and as a LFC fan you found yourself asking how did he ever score 13 and 15 PL goals in a season. Or at least I did. I guess the answer is something to do with our style of play - but I am not a clever enough football tactics expert to know exactly why it was.

Looking back now with him having left I felt it was a big shame that he never scored for LFC at Anfield with all his LFC goals coming away from home as I am sure when he signed that was one of the moments he was most looking forward to = his first goal for LFC at Anfield and it never happened. I think tho from everyone's point of view for him to leave was for the best and I am pleased he has scored 3 for WBA tonight. I am sure despite everything he remains a LFC fan at heart and all we LFC fans wish him all the best and were only sorry his dream move did not work out better.

An observation - this summer we have again signed an English striker who scored a lot for a lesser PL club in Danny Ings and Burnley - I hope things turn out better for him and I am pretty sure they will. As with Rickie I do not see Danny as a squad player, I do not regard any of the striker options (Benteke, Sturridge, Ings or Origi - I am assuming Mario and Borini will leave) as sure to start - whoever is playing the best and more likely to score should play!! - and maybe too different players will suit playing against different teams and whether it is home or away ...etc
