Not sure if Klopp will want to wait around for Gotze or Bayern to make up their minds. He seems to want to get his business done quite early. He might want to get a lot of it done before the Euros, too, since prices tend to get a bit crazy after an international tournament. If we wait until after the Euros and he signs a 3-year contract then whoever we had as backup might cost an extra £10m or so if they had a good tournament.

Who knows? If nothing happens by the time the Euros starts, either with Gotze or with us then for all we know Klopp could try getting Can to have a word with him.

You would think he wouldn't need to too much convincing. He knows Klopp.

Reports are saying we're going to sack Sakho for the drug offence. Not sure how true or if we're only considering it. My guess is it'll depend on how long he's out for. 6 months and we'll put up with it, 12 months or 2 years and we might sack him. We'll be finding out next week how long he'll be banned for.

If we sack him with a 6 month ban then I'd be disappointed. After all the Suárez stuff with how much we put up with and defended I'd be disappointed if we sacked Sakho after he's been a bit stupid. But then that's the double standards in football I guess. Sakho, as much as I love him, will be easier to replace than Suárez.

I'd have liked to have remembered it but I was only six weeks old on that day in May 1977.

Sometimes I dislike what owners of clubs do - mainly sacking of managers issues but also just general less than ethically sound positions where the modern God of money seems to win over all else. People be it fans or players or other employees are not treated with fairness and respect - and that annoys me.

In my naivety I maybe think the LFC owners are not like that - but the truth is almost all owners are like that - altho yes some are worse than others and I do believe that FSG are better than most.

In this specific case from the facts as we know them now I think to sack Sakho would be wrong altho when it all comes out maybe I would change my mind but I doubt it. For me there are not many what I would call sackable offences for footballers - I did think of attempting to list them but thought better of it as it would be such a hard task!! - and for me in almost all cases people deserve a chance to show they have learnt from any mistake made. If and when Sakho does come back for instance I would expect there to be conditions put in his contract for sure.

I wonder what is happening to him at present - is he still being paid his full salary? Or is it reduced cos of this situation? Sorry if this is a daft question!!

Completely agree with that, even though I don't think he should be 1st choice anymore, it'd be harsh to let him go.

If it turns out Sakho has just been a bit stupid and it was a 'one off' then he might get a relatively short ban and the club will stick by him. If it turns out he's used the drug as a mask for soemthing worse or was using it over a long period then I'm sure the club will see it as a serious breach of his contract and will terminate it. Might even be some legal action to try to recover some of his 'transfer value'.

ESPN are reporting that Munich have told Gotze to find another club. I'll be very dissappointed if he ends up leaving but goes soemwhere other than us.

We're being linked with a move for Sadio Mane. I'm guessing he's the alternative to Gotze.

On Football Manager I have sometimes created a manager at a random, insignificant club in a European league, with the sole intention of buying my players that I don't want, and can't sell, but have to sell for whatever reason. I usually give this club money with an editor to be able to buy the player, too, then accept the offer as Liverpool manager.

I remember it. It was the first game I watched on TV , engrossed from beginning to end, knowing that it was something important.

I think Mane plays the same sort of positions as Lallana, he's probably better at going past defenders, but I'm not sure he's that much better a player for £25m.
That said I would be much happier paying that for him than I would be paying the rumoured £45m for Brahimi out of Porto.

If this report is correct, and I seriously don't doubt it is, then Hodgson needs a reality kick up the arse.

Roy Hodgson will face the wrath of Liverpool fans once again, following his comments regarding Daniel Sturridge‘s latest injury.

The striker, who’s been fit for the past five months after intense planning and caution from Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool’s medical team, suffered a calf injury with the England side as soon as he was called up – and now faces a race against time to get fit for Euro 2016.

Hodgson says Sturridge has been injured since joining up with the squad – although his last game was the Europa League Final with Liverpool and he finished the match in full health…

“Daniel has a calf strain, he’s had that basically since he joined up with us,” Hodgson told the Mirror.

Sturridge’s injury is the fifth he’s picked up with England under Hodgson, which similarly beggars belief.

I'm just glad Danny Ings didn't come back sooner. Simply by being a Liverpool player he'd be next in line.

It was going to cost £20m, I think, which would have been a steal. Now it could cost even less. If this is true then he's definitely on his way out this summer, whether it's to us or elsewhere.

From what I read a few days ago, his family are now his agent, and they don't want him to leave Germany - what is it with families with some of these players, the guys 23 for pities sake! I will accept that however as a reason he said he's not coming, but, if this was his decision then we don't want him, and nor will Klopp.
Looks like Delph is out too, and Carrick was carrying an injury too.

Isnt the issue with Sturridge one where his training programme is very specific at Liverpool and with England his doing something different.

Hodgson has stated that the players will train as he wishes them too. That says it all really.

The fact that Sturridge keeps picking in injuries under Hodgson definitely isn't a coincidence. It's happening too frequently, especially when you consider he hasn't picked up a single injury since he regained full fitness under Klopp.

Hodgson needs to seriously piss off.

Time for Klopp to grab a big striker in the summer, we can't rely on Sturridge it's unbelievable really.

I reckon Brad Smith did OK for Oz tonight, and Hendo likewise seeing as that was his first full match for months.

I'm optimistic that he'll be fine, fitness wise, once he's out of the clutches of Hodgson.

I'm sort of us in 2 minds about him going to the Euros. I want him to be there because I think he deserves to go, but at the same time it'd probably benefit us a lot more if he was omitted.

5 months without injury so think you need to Calm yourself down!
