Yeah fitness issues. It's his birthday today, too. Hope Klopp's on the phone wishing him happy birthday...and having a little chat.

Him missing out through injury makes him sound like the perfect fit for us.

I'd pick Reus over Gotze any day of the week, but Dortmund is his home club. They look to be assembling a decent team again under Tuchel. I can see them running Bayern much closer next year.

Read reports that Gotze was also looking at houses in Liverpool, so he did seem close to coming. He's said recently that he wants to focus on the Euros and doesn't want to make any further comment until after it, after he had been asked following their friendly against Slovakia where they got owned by Martin Skrtel.

I'd be happy we got Gotze if it came off!!

We're now being linked with Marc Bartra who supposedly has an €8m release clause.

Was that ever in any doubt? He's still England's best striker despite the fact that he's only fit 0.001% of the time.

Him and Kane, on their respective days, would be a ludicrously lethal combination.

I don't think it was ever in doubt Sturridge was going to be honest. He's a huge game changer.

For some reason Michael Owen decided to get a picture with a dead ferret.

It may have been alive before Michael went over to it...

I agree. If only he could take care of himself the way Ronaldo does. He's a star.

Not for the first time in a little perplexed at Roy's selections. There squad looks a little unbalanced to me; only three CB's and one genuine wide player. I'm not that surprised he took Sturridge, but I don't see him getting much game time. I think it would have been more sensible to take either Sturridge or Rashford and give the other place to a proper CB ( or at least a guy with a bit of versatility like Carrick), but he brought Rashford in for a look and it's ended up being impossible to leave him out...and he's another who might not even kick a ball.

The squad is also heavy with attacking midfielders and even Rooney will probably end up playing there. I reckon he should have left out Barkley ( or possibly Lallana ) and taken Townsend as an alternative/ back-up to Sterling for some width.

Anyway, I speak with a Scottish accent and I've pulled Italy the sweep, so I don't know why I'm bothered about it.....Achtung Deutschland .

Edit just read its fitness issues. Another major tournament Reus misses out on due to injury.
I think he missed the last World Cup because of injury as well. He must be the most unluckiest player ever

He broke his leg in Germany's last friendly a few days before the World Cup. And at the time he was probably Germany's best player (bar Lahm)

Just read that Juventus are the only club with more players than us at Euro 2016.

Was already fearful of watching Wales mix it with the big boys for once but it now seems I'll be watching most games through my fingers.

Apparently we're signing Samuel Bastien from Anderlecht. €5m-€6m. He's a midfielder but I don't know anything about him.

Joe Allen's replacement? I don't want him to go but he might be on his way out. Would be a cheap squad player at worst.

If we do get him he'll probably be loaned out for a while, so he'll be one of the replacements for our team of loanees that we'll be parting with this summer: Yesil, Sinclair, Canos, Alberto, Wisdom, Ilori...the list could go on.

If we do want to replace Allen ( and I'm sure we do, but he's in the last year of his deal so it's possible ) or Lucas ( I prefer not to lose him ) as a squad player for the deeper midfield position, I think we should have a look at Villa's Idrissa Gueye. He supposedly has a release clause of £7m and his stats for tackles, and interceptions are very good; far better than anyone currently in our midfield. For what they collectively call 'ball recoveries' he's actually top of the PL, that's better than Dier, Drinkwater and Kante.

Carragher:

Just had a very passionate Evertonian taking me to Lime St in his cab, his best line " I hate the fact I don't hate Klopp!"

Yeah I'm sure a few rivals think that.

He's only a kid and has played just a handful of games. Looks like a clever, quick-thinking lively footballer from the few clips I've seen, with some incisive passing. Let's hope he's as good as Alli who we bizarrely walked away from for a similar price. Still fuming about that...

I find it helps if you think of Alli as a slightly better Charlie Adam who still does little other than go around kicking people.

Danny Ings - the player with the perfect attitude.

Quote: "Danny Ings explains how he studied Klopp’s tactics during injury lay-off".

The sooner Danny is back playing fully, the better, this guy is all we want in thought, can't wait to see him in action.

I can't wait to see Ings gst some action. I think he'll be a success under Klopp. He might not be the best striker but with his attitude and workrate he could be great, and might just fit into Klopp's system. Sometimes you don't need a striker to be world class to be successful in a system. If it gets the best out of him then he doesn't need such labels.

Also Joe Gomez has been linked with a loan move to Celtic. Brendan will obviously be linked to a few former players so I'm not surprised. I don't want him out on loan if we can help it, and I don't think the SPL would get the best out of him. Klopp's not a big fan of loaning players anyway, if he can keep them around the team he would.

10 league goals and 9 assists (as a 20 year old) from 33 appearances as a midfield makes that idea unworkable. We messed up.

Whatever you think of James Milner and/or statistics, the company's he's keeping here suggests he's doing something right!
