The Ref was totally useless as well, everytime anyone went to ground, he handed out yellow cards like sweets. Hope the rest of this 'friendly' tour to exhibit PL football goes a bit more to plan. We could have ended up with 2 badly injured players - friendly??

Not sure why we have to go through this rigmarole every year when we lose a pre-season friendly, as if the result means anything.

Ejaria looked very good again. He's got great feet and carries the ball forward well. I wonder if he'll feature in Klopp's plans come the start of the season. Firmino struggled up top but was marginally offside after a nice little passing move led to him slotting it past Begovic. Moreno continues to show why we probably need a left back.

People take pre season results seriously?

Friendlies serve a purpose of getting players fit and things can be experimented. I would say it's a concern if players look lazy and the team ships plenty of goals but generally pre season results are not that important.

According to James Pearce, Andre Wisdom will be leaving before the transfer window shuts.

Another full-back option leaving. I suspect we'll be seeing most of the outs before we address the LB issue.

I don't see anyone rushing to take on Balotelli and his wages anytime soon. I won't be surprised if it goes to a loan move on the last day of the window for him.

Grujic cleared as having only suffered a concussion, but it's unlikely he'll play again during pre-season; disappointed for him.

If you let them score the first goal, Chelsea look like they could be the most boring team in the league

I saw a similar comment to this from Fabregas and tbh I objected to it. The ref did not do the tackle and it was a red all day long which was pretty disgraceful in a friendly. I admit I did not see the full match but I have seen the tackle and it was totally inappropriate for such a match. I used to like Cesc in his AFC days but he seem different since he came back to the PL - and not a good way. I find it somewhat hypocritical that he goes into the LFC dressing room after and apologises - the better option would be not to tackle like that in the first place.

Don't think that'd make Fabregas a hypocrite for apologising. Unless you mean the fact that he disagrees with the (obvious) red and also apologises makes him a hypocrite but I disagree with that, too. It was a reckless, and unnecessary challenge, and he was rightly sent off for it.

In other news, James Milner could be used at left back this season. Well, he'll be more defensively solid than Moreno, and he does have a good cross on him. Not so sure about his pace, though, Moreno is one of our quickest players. It'd give Milner some more game time, though, with some of our new signings (and Grujic) getting in the way of him playing more advanced.

Well if we're not signing a player for that position, I hope Joe Gomez is back kicking a ball soon. I really would be worried about Milner at LB, and, although he'd probably get on with it, I'd expect him to be gutted about having to play there; one of the reason he cited signing for us was that he wanted to play more games in CM.

I've just seen the new 3rd kit: I don't like it all, I'm afraid, it seems just about the worst kit I can remember us having.

I just did my fantasy squad. Don't think I can make an Ultimate Fantasy team yet.

What have they done to that website? It looks like someone threw our new third kit at it.

They might want to get rid of that green banner.

Just done mine too, hate the new layout though, it's far too big - and very, very green!

Was surprised to see that nearly 650,000 have already done their teams - some right keen bug**rs out there! Looking forward to the Ultimate opening up though, I rate that as way better of the two.

The demons are still getting us -

New Liverpool goalkeeper Loris Karius has been ruled out for eight to 10 weeks with a broken hand.

German Karius, 22, suffered the injury in Liverpool's friendly defeat against Chelsea in America on Wednesday and will return to England for surgery.

Karius joined the Anfield side from manager Jurgen Klopp's former club Mainz for £4.7m in May.

I said (to paraphrase) he did a shocking tackle in a friendly which could have caused a fellow player a serious injury and felt in view of that that his apology meant little. This is especially so bearing in mind that in his post match comments he had also chosen to have a go at the ref who after all was only doing his job. It appears that he the type who thinks that the laws of the game should not be applied in friendlies - as a ref quite frankly I find such players pains in the neck.

I also recall his equally vicious tackle on a LFC player after about 5 minutes of a game at SB about 2 years ago which also should have been a red but which he got let off for - do you?. I think his mentality now is different from when he was younger at AFC - and I have gone off him big style. I also suspect he was advised by the CFC hierarchy to do the apology rather than it being what he really felt cos if he really had the welfare of his fellow professionals at heart he would not do tackles like that.

Gutted for Karius. Hopefully he'll come back stronger from it.

Anyone know how he did it? Was it in training?

People make mistakes, friendly or not. Its not hypocritical to apologise after making one.

They think it was a clash with Lovren on the posts, just an out and out accident. I am impressed that he carried on playing, he must have been hurting!

I still don't see what the problem is of him apologising. Of course it'd be better if he never did it but you don't apologise for something you haven't done. Usually, anyway. It doesn't make him a hypocrite. I haven't disagreed with the red or that it was bad or anything, just that you seem to take issue with him apologising. Would you rather he came out and said Klavan deserved it?

The red was right, he was wrong to disagree with it, but you can disagree with a ref's decision and still apologise for a bad challenge.

And this is why it's wise to have a really good number 2. And let's be frank here, as far as numbers 2's go, you won't many better than Mignolet.

If this had happened to us early last season, we'd have been stuck with Adam Bogdan, just to provide some perspective.

Lol, I just said the same thing on Facebook.

Quote:
“Well you could do worse for a backup than Mignolet. With a decent enough (Moreno aside) defence in front of him we'll manage. He's fine as long as he doesn't have to do anything. ”

It's definitely better than going a few weeks with Adam Bogdan or Brad Jones.

Ovie Ejaria could make his international debut for Nigeria, in September, before he even makes his first competitive club debut.

Nigeria want to play him to secure him as a Nigerian international, rather than let him become an England international.

Probably better off with Nigeria - he might actually win something with them!

Well, if he signed for England, I'd have more reason to watch England, and would see him play for his country more often.

If he signed for Nigeria, he'd be less likely to pick up an injury, but will be missing for parts of the season because of their stupidly-timed African Cup of Nations.
