Mainz tearing us a new one.

Is this down to playing 2 games in 24 hours? No one has looked up for it today. Such a lazy performance.

You've played a lot of pre season games though. How many is it?

4-0 so far.

This is the 9th game since 8th July, so it's been a busy one.

Two games in less than 24 hours is not unusual in pre-season but playing a lot of the same players is. Not sure what the thinking was.

Haven't watched this one as kinda knew it wasn't going to go our way once I saw the team. Hard enough 2 full matches within 24 hours, but then the travelling to Germany too? Not bothered frankly, just hope now that Klopp has it settled in his mind who and how we are going to play this season.

Not an easy start either, 3 away matches on the trot, and in our first 5 we are away to Arsenal, Spurs and Chelsea. Still, let's see what it all brings, first time for ages I am fired up ready for the new season!

Apparently Klopp used to do this at Dortmund to push their stamina levels right up. Not sure if it's true and cba checking it out but that's what some LFC fans are saying. It's not like we need an inquiry into a pre-season result. I'm sure Barca will quickly forget their defeat yesterday and we'll do the same.

With no European football we'll have more recovery time than most of our rivals for top 4 anyway, so I'll wait and see what happens during the season.

Just hope Grujic is okay.

Strange old penultimate weekend before the proper football starts. Have read elsewhere that we beat Klopp's Dortmund 4-0 pre season two years ago and had a shite campaign.
A decade ago we lost 5-0 pre season to the same club and ended up finishing 3rd with a CL final appearance.

Let Battle Commence!!

Well it looks like benteke won't be going anywhere if its true Liverpool won't except anything under 32.5m. As good as he is there is no way clubs are gonna pay that.

And his value will only decrease with no playing time.

And he's not played that much to start with.

The fact that we've not seen him much, if at all, during preseason isn't a good sign, Klopp doesn't seem to like playing players who he doesn't have time for or thinks have a future with us, he didn't bring Balotelli or Joe Allen. But then he did bring Andre Wisdom, who might leave, but then might stay due to the shortage at the fullback positions.

If we're keeping Benteke because we don't seem willing to haggle then we should've played him. Getting a couple preseason goals could've done his confidence some good.

If he stays then there are worse options to have, but if he ends up being fourth choice then his value will drop and we won't be getting that £30m from Crystal Palace again.

It'll all work out on the last day of the season when Benteke makes his 10th appearance and scores the goal that wins us the league.

We have to take all posts like this seriously since Leicester won the PL

I have plenty of sympathy for Benteke, but he wasn't worth £32m last summer and he hasn't done anything since to justify that sort of price tag now.
Even if he ends up going on loan for a year, come next summer he'll still only be worth around the £20m mark at best. So if anything near £25m is available now, we really should take it, clear his wages of the books and move on.

I know there's always plenty of bluff and brinkmanship during transfer season, but I'm not convinced this is the best player to be doing it with. We have enough problems with Balotelli ( I don't think there never been any serious takers yet ) and Markovic ( linked with a dreaded loan move to Lazio) .

Apparently Liverpool want what they paid for him and won't accept anything less and he's 4 years left so they're in control. If he's not gonna be played then what is the point hanging on to him and watching his value drop like a stone.

Benteke is easily worth thirty million quid in the current market.

Is he?

If that was the case there would be clubs ready to pay.

I think the club will have to take its medicine and accept lower if they really want to shift him on.

Quote:
“Crystal Palace are hoping to agree a deal to sign Christian Benteke this week after reopening negotiations with Liverpool over the striker.

Palace had a £25 million bid for Benteke rejected at the start of July with Liverpool keen to recoup as much of the £32.5m they paid Aston Villa for the Belgian last summer”

Transfer window hasn`t closed yet. Liverpool would be fools to accept less than thirty million quid.

So they'd be better letting his contract run down and then take the first offer that comes in to avoid letting him go on a free? If palace offer more than 25m then we should take it and move on.
