On FB I seen a comment from a Leon Sturridge:

Quote:
“Just been told my bro is not in the squad for the weekend baring in mind he is fit and ready to play!!!!! Klopp and his antics again I think!!!!”

Hopefully that's just his brother being an idiot. Not a fan of his use of the word "again" there.

It might just be a precaution. Based on his comments in the press conference, he might still play, though it's doubtful. Doesn't sound that serious, Klopp said it's a bruise on his heel.

I can see Firmino starting up front with Origi coming on in the second half.

Formation 4-3-3:

Mignolet
Clyne; Lovren; Klavan; Moreno
Can
Lallana; Henderson
Mané; Firmino; Coutinho

Could be Hendo and Wijnaldum in midfield. Hopefully we'll see Grujic come on at some point.

And, yes, I've put Lallana in midfield. Klopp likes him so he's not going to be bombed out of the team, and I think he's used him in there during preseason. His best position is CAM, but Firmino plays there. We might get the best out of his qualities if we put him in midfield. Replace Hendo with Wijnaldum and we could have a goal threat in midfield, but I'd rather Hendo in there against Arsenal.

I think Lovren is carrying an injury?

Apparently some of the builders for the Main Stand decided to graffiti on bathroom walls, including writing Hillsborough slurs. These were toilets that were reserved for the builders.

The building company Carillion apologised for it and got it removed. Hopefully they find the person who did it.

Some people have asked why they haven't hired locally. A fair point, I guess, but I don't think you'd need to just stick to the locals to avoid the risk of hiring an idiot like that.

In more positive news related to the redevelopment, Anfield's new capacity is 54,167.

Hip injury according to Sky Sports.

Jonas Hector has extended his contract at Cologne; that's another name to scratch off the wishlist.

Start of a new season then and, to be honest, I'm maybe just a little bit more subdued about than I have been in previous years. Last May, when the season finished, I was of the opinion that our problems were Mingolet, Moreno and just too many injuries to CB's and Sturridge. First day of the new season, and despite our best efforts and some good work in the transfer market during the summer, it seems we are starting where we left off: Mingolet in goal, Moreno at LB, Sturridge recovering from a knock and a clutch of CB's with various injuries and concerns.

My hopes for the new season is that we can keep important players fit enough for long enough to sustain a consistent level of performance that can push us into the top 4. I do think it's achievable, but I'll wait untill the end of the window before I set my heart on it.

Today, despite our concerns, I think we might just be playing Arsenal at the right time as they have plenty of their own problems to contend with. If our defence can keep their heads and be fairly solid ( the fact we lost 4 goals to Mainz last week bothers me ) we'll have a great chance because I'm sure we can score a goal or two.

My predicted team: Mingolet- Clyne, Matip, Klavan ( preferably Lovren if fit ), Moreno - Can, Lallana, Wijnaldum - Mane, Coutinho, Firmino.

Not going to even try and work out the optimum team for today, so many variables in the squad. All I want is that Klopp sends out who he knows is the best right now, with a decent back up bench - regardless of who they are. He has enough of a squad, in spite of injuries, to make the team fit the expected match. The reckoning is that today will be a battle of Ramsey v Mane, if so, I can see Mane winning out.

Be great to get off to a good start, but Arsenal aren't easy.

We can exploit their defensive weakness - as long as they don't exploit ours (Moreno).

We have enough up front to get goals today.

The great thing about Moreno which a lot of people don't really note is that he's bloody EXCELLENT at making recovery challenges. I've lost track of the amount of times it appears an opposition player has been through 1v1 and Moreno has come in out of nowhere and made the challenge.

If they plan to hit us with pace via Walcott and Sanchez, I'd actually fancy Moreno to have a decent game.

I think Moreno is a player that Klopp feels he can work on to get him better - or he would have been up for sale by now. There is something about him that is brilliant, but, he does have those few fatal errors that need sorting out. If he is selected today - or is he our only LB option? - then it shows that Klopp does have faith in his abilities.

We'll see, if not and Can is back there, then he could be on his way out before long.

Huh, interesting team sheet. Sturridge not in the squad as expected, but Origi starts on the bench, as does Emre Can. Henderson and Wijnaldum preferred which I didn't expect. Klavan also gets the nod head of Matip as expected.

Alexander-Arnold also makes the bench.

Thought we usually put up the team and subs

: Mignolet, Clyne, Lovren, Klavan, Moreno, Henderson, Wijnaldum, Lallana, Coutinho, Mane, Firmino. Subs: Manninger, Can, Origi, Matip, Stewart, Grujic, Alexander-Arnold.

Looks like a very attacking line up.
Ings well be frustrated at not even making the bench, especially as it's a team without Sturridge

Moreno's challenge was stupid and rash BUT he does get the ball. Poor decision by the ref.

No that was a penalty.

Moreno is always rash. Switches off more times then light switch.

He is an average FB at best

Moreno out of position there. I think that's the final straw. 3 weeks of the window left, let's get a bloody LB in.
