A strange game for me tonight that one, I didn't really enjoy it very much, but saying that there were a few good performances from several individuals.
Benteke: I thought played much better tonight than he did at Stoke. We are still not getting the crosses in to get the most from him ( ironically Bournemouth put in better crosses than us, but had nobody to take advantage). Glad he got a goal (even though clearly offside) and he should really have got another.
Coutinho: The majority of our creativity, certainly the best of it, came through him. He just didn't have his shooting boots on tonight, hopefully he's saving those for next week.
Milner and Hendo and Can: Lots of energy and effort put into it, especially from Milner.
Clyne and Moreno: both provided good influence and opportunities going forward, the final pass/delivery is all that was needed.
Ibe and Lallana: I think they were a big part of the problem tonight, neither delivered the type of crosses Benteke will thrive on and neither provided the pace and excitement that can motivate the team and crowd to get right into the game.
Bournemouth played well enough, had a few decent crosses and were a threat from those corners. I didn't their their goal should have stood as the players hands were around Lovren's neck and that's a foul for me ( Skrtel take note! ). If they can find, and can afford, an experienced striker with a proven goal threat before the end of the window, they should definitely push the boat out for him.
I think we need to step it up next week in terms of quality and pace. That's going to be difficult as we probably won't have anywhere near as much of the ball. I'd be tempted to go for a 4-5-1 with Moreno playing left midfield ahead of Gomez and Lallana or Firmino in front of Clyne on the right.
Two weeks into the season, Hendo and Allen injured and we're contemplating selling lucas? ......mmmmm
