Jose knew our press was ineffective against a team not going forward with any pace or numbers - took the momentum out of the game and we're not as good from a standing start. Clean sheet though...

Jurgen finishes his interview by saying
' A clean sheet at last, yippee yai ay' Says it's the only thing he's happy about though. Felt we were a bit overawed and played within ourselves during the first half in particular. |

Don't you just love Jurgen Klopp?
What a great interview he has just given. He accepts all the negativity that a Mourniho team gives as just a part of the game and he only blames his own players for not taking advantage of it. The man is pure class. He may not like his own face. I love it.

Played with more fluidity the minute Lallana came on for Sturridge. Better movement and interplay in the final third. De Gea is a fabulous keeper. Can seemed comparatively slow on the ball in midfield. Missed some training sessions according to Klopp.
They passed the ball much better than us in the first half. No attacking intent and 45 mins down the swanny which Jose would have loved. If he's smart he'll keep Rooney off the pitch as they're quicker without him. Would almost have preferred a 2:2 to get us top of the goals scored table. Clean sheet and a point better than slap with a wet fish. Just. |

It's telling when the visit of Pulis' Baggies will be welcome after tonight's famine!

Mourinho did what he does best, came to kill the game and it worked in the first half. It's a shame to see a great talent like Rashford operating in the 'Willian role' as a right wing back for the entire game.
Nothing really happened of note in the first half other than United committing a heap of fouls, although once Anthony Taylor pulled out the yellow for Bailly (a very, very soft yellow) they calmed it a bit and in the 2nd half we were able to dominate. We seemed to panic a bit in the final third at times. Don't know how to put it exactly but there were many moments when we had the ball in great areas in and around their box but we either scuffed it or made the wrong decision time and time again. Firmino lost the ball so many times when he was in midfield, I much prefer him up top. Sadly Sturridge just doesn't have his pace anymore and his touch was terrible tonight. Still, a point is better than nothing. We'll just have to hammer West Brom next week to make up for it.

If he does they could be out the title race in a fortnight. Their fans wont be singing 21 times anytime soon imo with those ideas. I'd hate to go to Old Trafford with the sole intention of stopping Man Utd playing first and foremost and hoping to nick a goal or walk away with a point. Don't get me wrong I'd take a point at their place but I'd be disappointed if we set up for one only. If only De Gea had gone to RM, top keeper he is. We didn't perform as we can for sure and yes credit to Man Utd for that but they are not West Brom but perhaps it was West Brom tactics? Let's hope we have better luck with them

That was the big problem when Chelsea under Jose and then Palace put the breaks on our title bid in 2014. We do seem better under Klopp's system at the away grounds of the other challengers for top 4 than we do facing them at Anfield. Look at the results away to Chelsea, Arsenal and Spurs since he took over a year ago. Klopp has started to address our major issue of picking up wins home and away against those clubs you wouldn't think will be in the top 4. Which has been a bigger factor in to why we haven't finished top of the table since 1990, than how we do against the other so called 'glamour clubs'. |

I was a bit worried about this game beforehand; I knew what Jose was going to do and with the power they have at set-pieces against our wobbly defence, I did had visions of them nicking it.
As it turned out they were almost completely toothless and hardly bothered our defence at all, certainly didn't give them a hard time. I made it, Karius 0 saves - DeGea 2. Combine the good goalkeeping with Mourinho's six man back four and it felt like we were playing Burnley again. I wouldn't be surprised if we see the same tactics from other teams now as well, so we need to work out a plan to deal with it. I felt a little sorry for Sturridge last night as we were awful in the first half and the ball was barely ever reaching him, and when it did he had his back to goal, was crowded out and ended up giving the ball away. It was really difficult fur him. Sturridge is slowly following in the footsteps of Benteke and Carroll: his style of play just doesn't suit our A-game at all. The January window could be interesting for him. |

WBA on Saturday for instance is the type of game we should win but it will not be easy with the way Pulis (who I do not like much) sets his teams up. Any kind of a win will be OK!! Those expecting us to hammer them I fear are going to be disappointed but I do fully expect us to be able to win the game. Quote:

Patrice Evra congratulated Luis Suárez on his European Golden Shoe award.
Patrice Evra had this to say on Instagram. "On my Instagram there's only love. Congratulations Luis, you're a great player. The best No.9." He should still be the best No. 7. |

Taken from Facebook:
Klopp on Sturridge: "Daniel is hard working. He is fit, no issues physically - same as for every other player, what he has to do is work." Klopp: "I have thought in moments: ‘Ball- Sturridge - Goal. Oh No!’ Moments you think he should score & doesn’t but you have to carry on." Klopp on Sturridge: "We have to work on it together. He’s my player & that’s my job - didn’t score until now but has had really good games." Klopp: "Every player struggles with this or this. Sturridge is an outstanding player. There is no doubt about this." Klopp: "Daniel Sturridge is an outstanding player there is no doubt about that. We have to work on things together." My personal favourite: Klopp on Sturridge: "After a shooting exercise there's still tears in your eyes and you are like, 'F***ing hell! That is unbelievable!'" |

Given the good he's done (when fit) every season prior to this, I think Sturridge has earned our patience. His goals per minute ratio for us before this season started was outstanding. |

Sturridge is trying to get back into form by trying to do the difficult things rather than keeping it simple (and passing on some occasions). He's also looking for the ball rather than creating space for others by making runs to drag defenders away - that's why the Lallana/Coutinho/Firmino combo suits Klopp's system better. A decent ace up our sleeve off the bench though.

A nice, early goal to settle the nerves will do nicely here.
