A good point overall, however our second half performance was frustrating. Why didn't we press higher up the pitch in the second half, 3 of their back 4 were giving the ball away regularly. I think we let them off the hook last night.
Our substitutions were poor as well, why bring on an 18 year old in this type of game? I hope Lucas does stay, he was excellent in the 1st half along with Milner and Can. Benteke, Coutinho and Firmino all played well, but for Cech's heroics we'd have gone in at half time ahead. Shows how fit Henderson is as he doesnt seem to get tired at all. I thought the 18 year old didnt do too bad at all. He wa brought on to screen like Lucas did and seemed to do just fine. |

I was out for the first part of yesterday evening (playing bowls - and I won - hurray
) but back to LFC!! This meant I missed most of the first half listening to the end of it on the radio and then seeing the second half on TV. It seemed I missed the best bit - but I must admit I was even relatively happy with what I did see - including the first half highlights at the end of the game!!Even tho it was the first game we have not won I felt it was easily our best performance and even 'my mate' Lovren played really well!! Like Orch I struggle to name a LFC MOTM as several did well - all the back 4 + Mig, Can (I think we saw he would be best used in an attacking role where he will contribute far more in future) and Lucas then Benteke was good again, Milner was as ever really hard working and reliable - so I've named 9 of the starting eleven as candidates already and the other two - Coutinho and Firmino were not bad either. A real team performance. Ibe was a negative but I refuse to have too much of a go as last season he was far better and he is only young - perhaps there is a case for giving Markovic an outing? as he could not be any worse in terms of influencing the game. Surprised by BR subbing Rossiter for Lucas 15 minutes from the end of a game like that - you can only assume Lucas' legs had gone - but he did OK so that was good too When you consider that at Arsenal and Stoke last season we conceded 10 to not concede at all this season shows we are improving. Games like last night at top clubs you are never going to score loads but we did come close so that is encouraging, we now need to be more fluent and dangerous against lesser clubs - lets hope we start on Saturday. I do think Sean O'D and Garry Mc should get some praise too for their roles in getting us better organised defensively. I think we need to not go too OTT on our chances or on the performances of players after just 3 games but overall it looks hopeful so lets hope we build on it. |

Coutinho was so so close with 2 brilliant efforts that hit the woodwork and Benteke missed a sitter from 3 yards, albeit a great save from Cech - so lots to be positive about in that first half for sure. Here's hoping for the same effort & commitment v WHU, for me, same personnel too. |

So Mario's off back to AC Milan. Strange, really, I thought they already had a striker but somehow he ended up there. I guess there is a place for Mario in this world afterall.

Probably because after so much work done in the first 60 mins 3 games into the season it was difficult to maintain such pressing. Milner and Can looked dead on there feet.

Ibe needs to go on loan. Aside from one run against Everton I'm really struggling to find decent performances and I suspect that woodwork shot against Everton was a result of players I wing nothing about Ibe.
There is a talent in there but he doesn't back himself enough. I guess we now know who is better between him and raheem though! In terms of the game. It was an excellent performance from start to finish. Defensively we were superb and I think Rodgers can take huge credit. A point there is great for us. We've never really done well away to a Arsenal. There really feels like there is something to build on this year! I'm actually looking forward to games again! |

3 games in and they already tired after one half of pressing? I could understand it after 70 minutes, but to not press straight after half time allowed Arsenal to play. We got more tired chasing the ball in the 2nd half.

Arsenal were more of a difficult team to play than our previous two opponents I guess. That can account for increased tiredness throughout the game.

I'm not talking about late on in the game, of course you'll get tired, it just seemed that from the start of the 2nd half we didn't press high up the pitch. Arsenal, then found it easier to get into our half and play their little intricate passing game, which led to us chasing the ball more, meaning we got tired quicker.

I don't know if Arsenal's dominance at the start of the 2nd half was necessarily down to tiredness, but rather because we sat back, played deeper and just allowed Arsenal to play their football in the middle of the park. Even the few times we countered in that half, we didn't commit too many men forward. I guess Rodgers expected some kind of response from Arsenal following a poor first half and acted accordingly, which might have saved us from defeat, though I guess it could be seen as a little bit negative IF this indeed is what happened.

I would say the last 20 mins we were looking to protect what we had and reverted to just trying to hit arsenal on the break but no way did we go out in the 2nd half with the intent to simply play for a draw.
Arsenal improved and pushed us back. I actually thought up until around 60 mins we were still the better side and then once fatigue started to kick in we really struggled to get up the pitch. |

Rumours of Balotelli's antics while at #LFC:
* Was caught smoking with the grounds of the training centre; months after joining the club. * Claimed not to know who Joe Allen was on a team bonding session. * Refused to cooperate with the club's fitness coach. * On one particularly bizarre occasion, Balotelli noticed prior to training that a teammate had taken delivery of a new iPhone 6. Not yet in possession of the latest Apple product, Mario was 'visibly irked' by this and later left the training session prematurely complaining of a tweaked hamstring. When the rest of the squad returned to the changing room, they found Mario - seemingly recovered from his hamstring strain - sitting in the corner with a brand spanking new iPhone 6 * The night before Liverpool's Champions League game with Basel, Brendan Rodgers wasn't impressed at the size of the entourage that Balotelli invited into the team hotel many of them only leaving in the small hours of the morning. * When Liverpool lost the game in Switzerland, he angered the Liverpool boss further by ignoring requests to applaud the club's fans for their support. |

Sakho has been dropped from the france squad. deschamps said he had no choice as Sakho isnt playing any football. Quote:
Asked about Sakho’s omission from his 23-man squad, Deschamps said: “He is an important player who finds himself in a difficult position. signed another player“Playing international matches when you have not played for your club for a month is difficult. I hope his situation improves.” http://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport...s-sign-9939385 Quote:
Liverpool are on the brink of completing a deal for Nigeria youth international striker Taiwo Awoniyi.
The 18-year-old frontman will sign for the Reds from Imperial Academy in his homeland and will then be sent out on a season-long loan. Awoniyi has been scouted extensively by Kirkby Academy staff, who are delighted to have beaten off competition from the likes of Monaco and Porto to secure his signature. However, Liverpool are currently unable to secure a work permit for him so he will spend this season at a club in either Belgium or Holland. The plan is for him to then link up with Michael Beale’s under-21s squad at the Academy next summer. Awoniyi has represented Nigeria at under-15, under-17, under-20 and under-23 levels. Nigeria Under-23s spokesman Timi Ebikagboro has confirmed that Awoniyi is currently missing a training camp ahead of the All Africa Games in order to fly to Merseyside to undergo a medical and pen his contract. |

Ok, thanks for explaining further.I guess Wenger had given them hair dryer treatment at half time about the amount of possession and probing we had managed in the first half.Do think that Rodgers now has a good blueprint for playing away this season and the points you've made are issues which can be improved and get us all three points on the road this campaign.
It's the same at Stamford Bridge against Jose's team. We seem to have a psychological problem getting over the line. This would have been a great way of overcoming that. We seem to be fine at Old Trafford. |

Wonder who else we might see disappearing for a year. I get the feeling we're trying to clear out some players for financial rather than footballing reasons. I'll be seriously pissed off if Sakho goes over the weekend.

The concern though is £20 mil was spent a year later we are sending him out for game time. |

Suggests this is for the players development.
The concern though is £20 mil was spent a year later we are sending him out for game time. That 'committee' did a lot of players no favours at all.
