Fair points you both make but anything outside the top four and bottom three is 'mid table' for me.
I'd say top 7 (challenging for title & Europe) are skimmed off and therefore for balance the bottom seven are the strugglers - making 8th to 13th mid-table. Deal? |

I thought £30m was a realistic enough price for Sterling so I'm quite happy for the club to try and hang out for £40m/ £40m+ if they think they can get it. It might have been nice if City had waited until after the England game though, Sterling has had enough to deal with already; I wouldn't be surprised to see him on the bench this weekend.
The last few days I've also noted we've been linked quite a bit with Real's Russian winger Cheryshev for around £22m. I guess he could be being looked at as a replacement for Sterling ( though rumours about Markovic leaving as well) . I have to admit I don't know much about him and can't remember seeing him play. Anyone know about him, is he worth a punt? The same with Bogdan, I don't really know that much about him, but I'm not surprised that's the level of player we're looking at for our #2 'keeper. I thought, and was hoping, we might look at David Marshall for the job. |

Hilarious how LFC fans don't rate Sterling. Say he shoots like a girl, Ibe's better etc etc. Yet they want £40m for him! Utterly bizarre behaviour.
As I've said here before, most LFC fans I talk to recognise he's a huge talent but his attitude, form and output doesn't make him irreplaceable or worthy of a £150k-a-week salary. Given City's initial offer at the very start of the window is £30m, we'd be stupid to not wait until the dying embers of the window whereby his transfer value may well be nearer the £40m mark.Ibe is a year behind (they share the same birthday I think), so may well progress into a viable replacement - his attitude is certainly a lot better. |

Such a "sweeping" statement, hilarious and bizarre behaviour!Quote:
Another great signing Bolton keeper, just hurry up the season so we can end it.

Borini's a cheeky get; moaning about feeling trapped at Anfield and not getting chances to play. He was told last season he could go and we even accepted a bid from Sunderland (he did quite well there on loan) but he refused to leave >: (

He probably is which is such a bad thing to do, what team is his next target I wonder.
Surprised he hasn't raided Stoke ![]() Last season I saw Bolton play a few times on TV (including against us) and I remember watching him in goal v Bournemouth the day Bournemouth got promoted, it finished 3-0 but it could have been 7 or 8 he made some very good saves. I don't think hes as bad a signing as everyone is making out, especially for free. |

Did you buy that sweeping generalisation from QVC?

Even if it is only City interested we should haggle as much as we can. Sterling has two years left on his contract and after losing Lampard, Milner, Boyata, Sinclair and Richards, City are left with only Hart as a home grown player so they need to buy domestic players.
We should also remember that he is 20 with 15 England caps already and we have a sell on clause so part of the fee goes to QPR. |

As for Bogdan, it's underwhelming but ok as a back up on a free. The only problem is if Mignolet gets injured or plays like he did in the first part of last season, is Bogdan good enough to step up for a prolonged period? I'm not sure.

I'm merely pointing out that a lot of Liverpool fans are downplaying his talent because of the contract situation. Now they want ridiculous money for him. Can't have it both ways.
People also seem to forget August to December last year when they talk about output. If it wasn't for Raheem during those months we'd be way off where we finished. Coutinho was largely anonymous in those same months. Yes their form reversed in the second half of the season but some of us have longer memories! No coincidence Sterlings form dropped after the contract debacle. Ibe is way off Sterling at the moment. Admirable that he's doing extra training and also great PR from the club I'd say to throw it in Sterlings face. I think once Sterling signs a contract somewhere he's going to become world class. At 20 in his position it's hard to find a player better. |

If we let his contract wind down, what tribunal fee will we get? We'll be due a development fee. I'd bet now that if we played Milner in a wide advanced role, he'd have as much impact as Sterling did the season just gone - I think the £35m+ is best reinvested when all's said and done. Not to say I'd be mortified if he had a change of heart - but I'd be very wary of that as I believe he'll never regain 100% commitment. |

If you apply that quirky principle to age, that makes anyone between 16 and 64 middle-aged...

There's a campaign to bring Sterling to Macclesfield. Currently it's at £126 of its £50m target. I'd pledge money to it.

Apparently City have made a new bid of about £40 million for Sterling, that I think might be good enough if true, what do you think of this?

I saw Lavezzi mentioned as a rumoured signing in a few corners of the internet today, not sure if they're reliable sources though.
Another one suggested as joining us right back to the Benitez days.Hell of a workhorse when he was younger.Could be like an older Suarez but with nowhere near the amount of goals. |

I think this article makes some good points. Fans would be expecting to see any money from sterling used to sign am established world class replacement and the reality is we arguably are not in a position to do so. |

I would accept but only if the club has identified a replacement and a deal is on. I don't want the money and then we go looking and clubs know we have that money in to burn.

Sterling was one of the highlights in a very tough season and we're talking about selling him ? !
Footballs a funny old game, but if he wants to go, what can you do ? |

It will not benefit Liverpool by selling him, we would quite a bit of money for Sterling by doing so but think of the wages we are paying him at the moment.
An established player coming in to the club will want more wages and may cost the club nearly all the money they sold Sterling to buy him and then it's a gamble. Any new player is. He may turn out to be a flop. Just because a player is playing well for another club it doesn't mean he will for Liverpool. I think for the time being Liverpool should ignore Sterlings request to leave. |

I'd take the money and run, we've got plenty of time to find a replacement before the new season starts.

the club should only sell if a replacement is lined up and keen to join. having £40m in the bank with nobody to spend on is pointless. Plus the fans will be screaming for a replacement as the weeks go by so we could end up buying someone who the club didnt really want in the first place. |
