Someone must be having a laugh with regards to the Walter Mazzarri rumours.

Origi might be on a loan move to Norwich. The same Origi Rodgers wanted to spend 2-3mill last season to bring in to the squad early.....

£40m now looks cheap of course but given said baggage it was always difficult to put a price on Suarez. What I do find interesting is that to the best of my knowledge he hasn't put a foot wrong in Spain. I genuinely wonder what's changed, or do we just not hear about minor stuff?”

I rarely criticise Luis Suarez (as many know!!) but some aspects of this episode do annoy me - he talked about being fed up with the UK media (I was sympathetic to that comment) but then went on to say he wanted to talk to AFC which last time I checked was in the UK!! Not exactly credible or consistent is it.

But I always felt he was 'controllable' and in BRs first season he had been pretty good altho he did spoil it with the Ivanovic bite near the end of the season. After he came back from the 10 game ban 5 games into the next season he did not miss another game playing 33 times and scoring 31 goals and was almost perfectly behaved - 5 yellows and they were almost all for mistimed tackles rather than anything more sinister. He has continued like that in Spain - altho there is the matter of the WC incident in between to take into account So the 2 BR seasons were pretty good behaviour wise - I think it was drummed into him how much he was harming his chances of being a world class rated player if he continued to get banned for his misdemeanours and he did seem to take notice by the way he managed to control himself.

I do think he was far more than just a goal scorer tho, he made things happen at the top end of the pitch, was very exciting to watch and influenced the whole team to have a winning mentality.

I am very glad he did not go to AFC that's for sure as I'd hate to see him playing for another team in the UK.

Is it not more likely that Suarez has simply calmed down because of a lack of frustration?

He plays for Barcelona. They're going to win 90% of their games, and with Messi and Neymar in the side, he won't be the sole focus of defending teams.

As well as Liverpool played whilst he was there, he was the number one target for the opposition.

Obviously none of that excuses some of his behaviour, but it might explain the lack of controversy since he moved.

Can't disagree with anything you have put there Jim - at LFC it must have been hugely frustrating for him as we flattered to deceive so much and largely that will have gone in a Barca shirt and yes there he will no longer be the main focus for the opponents' defenders with the little matter of Messi to take into account too - as well as all the others too.

Listening to 5 Live this morning they said Rodgers has no intention of quitting, I also heard him give an interview on BBC NI last night, he said he has a strong relationship with FSG, So going by this I can't see him going anywhere soon.

Could be a bluff - making the owners and the fans believe he's staying in the hope he does. We'll see what happens today, if that is a failure in any form, I think the fans voices may get too loud and make his stay untenable.

He'll be going to collect his P45 if we lose today, which is a strong possibility as Villa have a good record in recent years. I don't want us to lose, so he'll get sacked, I think he should get sacked even if we win.

Outstandingly arrogant self-delusion.

I think a spawny 1-0 win will do. Although I feel like there's a chance of a convincing 3-0 on the cards which will cause FSG to loosen their touch on the trigger, before we come plummeting back with defeat against Everton.

Is it true that Brendan will receive 10 million if he is sacked. I wouldn't resign either with that payout.

If Real Madrid wanted to do a little swaparoo, I don't think too many would mind.

I'm reading Gerrard's book at the moment and he talks about the Arsenal thing. At no point did Suarez have any real intention of moving to Arsenal - at least not because 'it was Arsenal' - he simply wanted out of Liverpool at the time because he felt he had been lied to by FSG and by Rodgers.

His real desire all along was to move to Madrid or Barca, which he acknowledged during a one-on-one chat that Gerrard speaks about.

I think Barca was always the ideal place for him. His in-laws live just outside the city, good climate, great club, his language - perfect. Main reason he's been the ideal player and person since moving there, reckon I'd be the same.

Now today. I am chickening out, going for a good long walk over the Pennines, no signal, no info on the match - I just don't want to know till it's over. For the first time ever I'm not even bothered by the result - it's the 'afters' that could prove more interesting.

I agree it's the after I am interested in. I hate saying this but I do hope Villa sneak it with a 1 nil or something as I want something done about this Rodgers situation, a win and as someone else mentioned the finger will be released of the trigger.

He probably does have a strong relationship with FSG. The fact he was kept on the summer, allowed to change his staff and recruit more players suggest they him and FSG do have a very good relationship and they trust him somewhat.

Now obviously results can change all that and continuous bad results give FSG a decision to make. Personally I can't see any change happening before the new year unless things become untenable.

The players still have a big say. Usually you see tell tales of player belief in the manager by there efforts on the pitch. Have the last two games seen a lack of effort? Lack of conviction? Lack of following instructions?

I think it's difficult to argue yes but again we will see today.

Are you a Liverpool fan or a Rodgers fan?

If the manager is to go on then a win today makes no difference to what the owners have decided.

Once you start hoping the team lose, you need to question your support.

which was absolute BS!

not once did BR or the club say they wanted to bring him back early. the papers ran with the story and the club always denied it.

Don't know what to think of any lineup we put out anymore. I'm full of trepidation before every game we play now.

I don't think it matters who we put out now. We had our A team out last weekend at look what way that went. Off topic but amazing result for Spurs.

Considering the injuries we have at the moment that's quite a predictable lineup. I'm really glad we're getting Sturridge and Ings up front, but I'd have possibly chosen Lallana instead of Can ( even though that would have put Lallana deeper than he'd prefer.

We need to win this today.
