I hope we can get a good few goals against the Swiss side.Perhaps one or two for Origi and Lallana to help their confidence. There's certainly little wrong with Sturridge and Ings finding form fast and our other attacking talent starting to fire would be a fuirther great boost.

I thought Ings and Sturridge worked well today. Ings was impressive (again), kept trying to make things happen and is unfortunate not to have an assist with the amount of times he tried to set Sturridge up. They could become a nice little duo.

I expected a loss today, I was pleasantly surprised at the win, But it doesn't change the dreadful performances of the last 15-20 games in the league.

I am aghast at how fragile our back line is after we showed we can defend well in the first few games of the season, I hope that riding high on this win can carry us to more without the team getting complacent.

I'd be okay with abandoning the solidity a little bit if it means we can score goals. What I can't accept is the errors.

He was excellent today. Considering he lost his grandmother last night (RIP Granma Lucas) I thought he more than put in a shift.
Pleased with the win, a few more of them, esp v Everton and things may calm down for BR a bit.

Well I'm sorry but everyone has been bleating for Sakho to play because he's a beast and yet an average ex Cardiff & Blackburn striker again makes our Centre Backs look scared when near him. I too will watch again as at the match it's maybe not as black & white as it looked, I'll watch replays but Liverpool really need to stop making average players look world beaters when they play us.

It's not that simple though is it? If you want Rodgers to go then while you don't want to see the team lose it does prolong the agony. United had the situation under Moyes. You want the team to win but.....you know something has to change and the odd win against teams you should beat anyway doesn't help the bigger picture.

I'm a United fan and I'm glad you won today because it keeps Rodgers in a job and Liverpool with him in charge doesn't scare me.

Bit OTT. The villa striker got a run on sakho and won the header. I don't recall him worrying our defenders throughout the game though. Wasn't like the defence couldn't handle him every time villa crossed the ball in.

Regarding sakho, actually think heading is the weakest part of his game.

It is similar to the end days of Rafa, a lot of United fans did not want him sacked before he was.

It is just stalemate in a way, a holding pattern continues until the next unedifying defeat happens, then all of the unpleasantness goes again.

Not really. I am witnessing the same now as I did at the match as I am now on match choice football. I'm not just talking about the goal itself, which hasn't yet happened on match choice, 3 times already Gestede has beat him & Skrtel, not just to headers either. They need to be more physical I think. Sakho didn't get off the ground earlier, Gestede header went wide luckily, well actually he did get off the ground in a sort of throwing himself to the ground way

The Gestede header was a great header. The striker always has the advantage over a defender when the delivery is that good as the defender is going from a standing start while the striker is running onto the ball. Sometimes the best defence is stopping the cross in the first place.

Watching MOTD it reminded me of the old SAS says, Sturridge especially his second goal made it look easy, he is a natural goal scorer. But similarly like the old SAS days our defence is bloody crap. I think with Sturridge back in action we have the striker situation sorted, the defence is still severely lacking and has been since Carragher left, we need an experienced world class defender to take control of defence the way Carragher did.

I noticed on MOTD they didn't mention Coutinho's little back heel to Sturridge.

BR is meant to be an expert on formations with the diamond, wing backs, 3 at the back ...etc all used at various times. At times I wonder over this when i see us use formations which do not play to our strengths Maybe he over thinks about line ups and tactics perhaps. Myself? - I make no such expertise claims, all I would say is that there are things which make us look and play much better and 2 up front is one such.

I do hope BR sticks with it with Studge and Ings in those roles for the foreseeable future but have my doubts that he will. I can see Benteke coming back in when fit or him looking at the defensive problems we have and having to tweak them (3 CBs or 5 in midfield to counter the opposition ...etc) resulting in the ditching of the 2 up front.

That for me would be a mistake - the 2 up front has to be part of the line up, it has to be the first thing he writes down on the team sheet and the rest fits round that - and based on current form I want the two to be Studge and Ings. That way we will become the attacking, attractive team that we all want to see - wasn't it good to see the way Studge took his goals yesterday and the fluid exciting way we played for at least parts of the match - if we keep that formation I hope it will start to become the norm again

Even last season when Balotelli looked to be playing better it was due to us playing two up top, One up top just means our strikers are starved of good service as they are marked out of the game, It can work with the right players but we haven't had them in place.

The reason the two up front works, is because there is more movement, Sturridge and Ings are both happy to drag defenders out of position, run down the channels...and so on, this gives the likes of Coutinho the movement he's been missing.

Keeping a front 3 in the way we did against Villa seems to be the way we work best.

We've got Firmino and Lallana who can both easily slot into that number 10 role, and up front having Benteke, Ings, Sturridge and Origi will give us options.
