Not shocked at the news but we all know that there's deeper issues than just the manager.

Lukaku normally scores against us, sadly. Hope that's his lot now though.
Don't see us signing Lukaku to stop him, though. ![]() Quote:
Only just heard the news... can't say I'm surprised! So the reports before the match that said if we didn't win today then they would pull the trigger turned out to be true!
And here were some people saying they wouldn't be removing him until Christmas at the earliest. I agree with the theory that they're hoping to get in there before Chelsea inevitably relieve their own manager of his duties. Klopp will do just nicely for me. I do think the fact that vacancies are opening up kinda accelerated their decision, especially the Chelsea job. Someone (Ayre?) will have told FSG about Chelsea possibly stealing one of the two we're after, with it being more likely to be Klopp due to Ancelotti maybe not wanting to go back there. Now? Sakho's thinking he's got his job back, Joe Allen is grieving, and Lovren is handing out his CV as we speak. Balotelli's lighting fireworks in his bathroom in celebration. |

Am I greedy to want Ancelotti as DOF and Klopp to manage the team?
I know I am deluded

Ancelotti would be amazing, Klopp is realistic I would be so happy with Klopp though.

Brendan Rodgers' Era at LFC
Inevitably, the trap door has swung open and another management spell at Liverpool is laid to rest.
I liked Rodgers for the most part, certainly in terms of the football he tried to play (certainly a massive improvement on the two managers before him) but ultimately a few key things led to his demise. His relationship with the owners was never the same after the botched first attempt at resolving the Carroll debacle. When Rodgers finally got his man six months later (Sturridge) half the season was gone. Yet the signings of him and Coutinho were two of the best in recent years. The new system and style suited Suarez too and the following season was one of best I've seen as a Liverpool fan in terms of excitement and the football we played. Fans who put that all down to Luis Suarez did Rodgers a massive disservice. However, Rodgers' treatment of some players was counter productive - he seemed to alienate too easily and didn't seem to embrace the Liverpool tradition of transitioning players who'd served the club magnificently into other roles at the club - big names appeared to be treated as a threat. The whole transfer committee setup quickly degraded and Balotelli was the biggest illustration. It is well known Rodgers didn't initiate or fully endorse Mario's recruitment - another damaging blow to his relationship with FSG. Sturridge's injury last season was cruel twist of fate that exposed fully the mediocrity of Borini, Lambert and Balotelli as top class alternatives. I'm sure some of the failed or unspectacular signings endorsed by Rodgers (Borini was definitely one I'd imagine given he'd worked with him before) led to some distrust but the committee hardly worked any better. Given his lack of credentials some fans and media were never going to cut Rodgers any slack, even after that unexpected title challenge. It was perhaps that massive over-achievement that acted as the catalyst for failure - even with Suarez's sale it led to unfair levels of expectation. I still think a fully fit Sturridge would have seen us retain top four but that's the stark reality of a lack of depth in key areas - how much that was down to Rodgers is unknown. The crushing disappointment of just missing out on a monumental title win the season before tainted players, media and fans alike and had a lingering effect. Like Kenny before him, Rodgers made some PR gaffs with his lack of honest appraisal and public digs at the owners. He seemed to start well and spoke articulately but as time went on he appeared unable to adjust and use the media effectively to win favour or regain trust. The Stoke defeat was pretty much the death penalty at the end of a fractious season and only a near perfect start to this campaign would have salvaged things - the fixture computer made that a forlorn hope to be honest. I'd have really liked to see him have one more go with a fully fit team but that was never going to happen frankly. Instant success is demanded and excuses are not tolerated in football these days. I still thank Rodgers for the thrills of 2013/2014 and for what he tried to achieve. He deserves more credit and respect than he's been getting in some quarters and that's what really annoys me more than his departure. He made mistakes - many of them - but his aim was to always to play football in the right way and with a refreshing lack of cynicism or gamesmanship. I wish him well in the future. I expect Ancelotti next - happy with that. I only wish his arrival brings about the restoration of a more traditional transfer model - I'm sure he will not tolerate anything else. I remain wary of Klopp due to the nosedive he oversaw at Dortmund in his last season there. A new era awaits - I just hope we get a decent rub of the green and everyone wipes the slate clean. FSG need to learn as many lessons as Rodgers does to be honest - and to be fair the squad is in better shape than it was when Rodgers arrived (the loss of one-offs like Suarez and Gerrard aside) and we do have something tangible to build from as long as people's expectations are realistic. |

I'd prefer Klopp over Ancelotti just because of the football the former brought to Dortmund and how he achieved huge success on a relatively modest budget. Yes, they had a horrible run in his final season but despite that they still finished 7th which got them into the Europa League. Watching them during that run was so surreal. They were utterly dominant against almost every team they dropped points to but were just incapable of taking chances.
Not that I would be unhappy with Ancelotti, he's one of the world's best, it's just been a while since he took over a club in a bad way that didn't have massive resources. He did a fantastic job at Milan but in football terms that was quite a while ago. Having said all that, I wouldn't be surprised if neither want to come and we end up with Big Sam. |

Sky Bet are offering 5/2 on Ancelotti, and PaddyPower 11/4. Not bad odds.
Ronald Koeman is 22/1 on SkyBet, 33/1 on some places and even 40/1 on one. Knowing us and our love of all things Southampton it might be worth backing Koeman.

Liverpool have a new stand in place for next season, they'll want it occupied, no offence to Big Sam but he won't get bums on seats with his footballing philosophy. I'm surprised BR has been sacked after today. He was very lucky not to have gone after the dreadful finish to last season, no show at semi v Villa and mainly the trouncing at Stoke. Having survived that though it seemed he was being backed and like Promo I didn't go along with those saying he's going nowhere before Xmas etc as continued poor performances and fans leaving early and team being booed off can all influence the owners. Having struggled past Carlisle, only drawing with Sion, it did not look good for Brendan but I thought he'd get a few more games if i'm honest. Let's hope the new appointment is a good one. What happens to Gary Mac now I wonder? |

So, the owners masterplan was to sack him so that we got shown before an Arsenal v Utd game on Match Of The Day 2 LOL.

I'm wondering now which players will be at risk of getting the chop under a new manager. I'm looking at Lovren and Allen at the moment.

Is it just a rumour that he found out he'd been sacked through a text from one of his family.
I think it was the time to go but that is shocking from his employers if true. |

If we fail to get Klopp or Ancelotti, I could see us going for someone young like AVB, Frank De Boer or Vincenzo Montella. |

We need to get a DOF as well. Someone proven in that role of identifying talent. Someone who is on the same page as whoever the new manager is on how they want the team to play. The DOF then finds those players to fit the managers requirements.
I think that's just as important as the manager position |

Klopp I think will likely take the post. Seems to be someone who is keen for a fresh challenge, as well as a excellent personality for the game.

The club have contacted both Klopp and Ancelotti, but no deal has yet been agreed with either of them.

Sad to see Rodgers go, but it was inevitable, the performances this season have been poor, especially the 2nd half of games. Yesterday was no exception, we were pretty good in the 1st half, pressing high up the pitch, we could have been ahead from our early chances and then conceded from so poor defending. The 2nd half we didn't press high up the pitch, nor did pass the ball well.
Hopefully, wherever Rodgers does end up, he is successful. |

The rumours, guesses and suggestions will be rife until the new boss is named, pretty normal stuff in the circumstances,
But I do wonder how all this is/will affect our players? They must be having the same things running through their minds, plus the not knowing if they will still be with LFC once the new manager settles in. A lot of changes coming, and they will know that some are on borrowed time now. |
