Are there any rules binding the Housemates after they leave?
george.millman

I was just wondering... I know that potential Housemates are barred from talking about it before they enter the House, but what about after they leave? Are there any rules in place about what they are and are not allowed to say in interviews, or with who they are allowed to talk to?

I was just thinking that (as far as I know) we never have any actual former Housemates on this forum. I know that if I'd been in the House, I'd want to be on forums like this all the time, talking about it without anyone taking my words out of context and clarifying any queries anyone has about what goes on in the House (as I already do about my audition experience). Are they barred from things like that, I wonder?

Jonty BB8
Tom BB12

Have too...most don't anymore because they get abuse. We also has PEJ who ran the show during the Ch4 days and another guy from Endemol and they got abuse too.

Tom was great when on here though and I didn't particularly like him in the house. Took a lot of time to chat to people

I suspect it's in their contract not to reveal certain aspects.

That was addressed by Tom from Aaron's year on here.

I personally asked about Aaron's comments that 5 from his year had attempted suicide and whether it was true to which Tom wrote...

"To my knowledge no...but I'm not still in touch with everyone so I can't say for a fact it's not true. The thing is though even if it is true it's a d*** move to say it. That's people's personal demons your exposing because you want to make a point.

He mentioned liking Aaron but lost respect for him when that happened

I was thinking about this the other day. Maybe there is a gagging contract that they sign. But SERIOUSLY, think about all the past contestants.... many, many of them were completely nuts, there's no way that they would ALL obey it.
For this reason I doubt very much that anyone is "the chosen one" or that any housemates are scripted in their behaviours because NOT ONE ex housemate has ever said anything about it.
You really can put a dozen or so people in a room and step back and just watch what madness happens. I'm remembering plenty of Christmases, weddings, parties etc where there's been drama! Add to that the fact that the majority of the people who apply to go on a TV game show are most probably attention seekers/ extroverts/ wannabes/ plain old out going and you really do have a ticking bomb.
I'm pretty sure that plenty of folks here will soon be shrieking "you fool, it's all planned, you're so naive" and that's fine. Maybe they haven't seen as much drama in their own lives to have the same opinion as me.

It wasn't uncommon (and still isn't now) for housemates to get a small mag deal claiming Big Brother ruined their life where they would discuss their awful treatment/how much the show exploited them. Lisa from BB9 did one just this year in the run up to this year's series - although the headline stated 'Big Brother ruined my life' - I imagine she doesn't actually blame the show since it is only partly to blame for her predicament now.

This. I remember a play that I was in once, and there were two cast members who really had an issue with each other, and I felt a bit uncomfortable as I got on with both of them. I can recall one occasion on which one of them said about the other, 'She's so fake, she's just playing a game,' and I was thinking, 'Do you realise you sound like you're on Big Brother'? Thankfully, they made friends after a while.

I always wondered this I think the housemates are under contract with what they can say about the show when its over

I always assumed there were rules in place but that they were only binding for the duration of the show they were in (i.e. don't criticise before the final).

Most (all?) of the examples listed above fit that trend.

Tangentially related: during the Desmond years his papers always seemed to have first dibs on stories/interviews with evictees. Whether that was a contractual stipulation or more that the rest of the press just weren't interested, I don't know.

It does seems that the 'evictee press conferences' (i.e. 'here's a room with 3 journalists, all online ;P) returned this year though.

George, how was your audition experience?

The problem with a lot of house mates is they go in their expecting a journey or a life changing experience end up disappointed when they come out the other side pretty much the same as they went in.

I knew one of the BB housemates before he was on show. Had a decent job just starting off in the business it was a shock he went on BB. He never came back to the job he thought he career would take a different path. However the job offers soon dry and 6 months later you end up back where you started.

No amount of after care can fix the fact your not going to be famous and actually have to return to a normal life. I understand it might be difficult coping with everyone knowing you where on BB however surely that is the reason you went on the show in the first place.
