BBC Panorama - GMO food
Here we go again. Another attempt at trying to convince the public GMO food is not harmless without much scientific data available.

I think it IS not harmless. I'm strongly against GMO organisms in food. Big companies however are trying to convince us GMO is safe by sponsoring various biased scientific researches and promoting it on TV in Europe as America is getting ready for EU USA free trade agreement to come in force soon.

Well the studies into the safety of GMOs have been plentiful, and several organisations, including the WHO, have looked at the researched and said that GMOs are no riskier for your health than their non-GMO counterparts.
I'm not saying this is the final word and people should stop asking questions, but considering how long GMOs have been around, I can't say I'm worried. After all, human beings have been modifying the genes of crops for thousands of years by selectively breeding plants with desirable traits. Pretty much all of our crops have been messed with in one way or another. http://www.popsci.com/article/scienc...laims-debunked |

All the studies on gmo were conducted in America mostly and all were financed by bio tech companies that actually make gmo crops.

Yes, show me one fully independent gmo research and I take it back.
Anyway, here's a meta review from a team of Italian scientists: http://informahealthcare.com/doi/abs...urnalCode=bty& The scientific research conducted so far has not detected any significant hazards directly connected with the use of GE crops and A Decade of EU-funded Research: http://ec.europa.eu/research/biosoci...o_research.pdf This new publication aims to contribute to the debate on GMOs by disseminating the outcomes of research projects to scientists, regulatory bodies and to the public. It follows up previous publications on EU-funded research on GMO safety. Over the last 25 years, more than 500 independent research groups have been involved in such research. According to the projects' results, there is, as of today, no scientific evidence associating GMOs with higher risks for the environment or for food and feed safety than conventional plants and organisms. http://europa.eu/rapid/press-release....htm?locale=en |

EU and WHO are in favour of big businesses, corrupted officials etc. independent study means the one that is truly self-financed and conducted. WHO is the most corrupted UN body there is. They accept bribes from pharmaceutical companies, big corporations, politicians and who knows who else.

Who's paying off the Italian scientists? Who's paying off the Department of the Pharmacology and Toxicology, College of Veterinary Science, Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh, India? Or the authors of the 114 peer-reviewed articles, not funded by corporations, listed at the bottom of this article? http://www.skepticalraptor.com/skept...ence-gmo-safe/
This is so reminiscent of arguing with climate-change deniers or an anti-vaxers. No matter how much evidence is presented, it will all be instantly dismissed with conspiracy theories and logical fallacies. So, if you don't accept that we've been eating genetically modified plants for thousands of years through selective breeding, then at the very least provide some evidence, from a quality peer-reviewed journal, that shows how GMOs have been harmful in the last 20 years. |

If GMO is so safe, why the Americans don't want to label the gmo food and let the people know if something is gmo on the packet? |

Not sure what I think about GMO to be honest. I do think it is about big companies, certainly American ones who want to control what we plant and eat. Farmers who buy GM seeds are for ever in the arms of these big companies.
I must admit I am a bit worried about GMO, it have not been proved they are safe and I think forcing a gene from one plant even a anaimal into another plant is maybe not the way to go. If we do have GMO in this country, then it needs to be labels clearly and not stuck on the back of the packet in tiny writing. |
