I love this new quote from the head of the European Broadcasting Union, it perfectly sums up whjat many of us feel about the current incarnation of UHD as is likely to be broadcast by BT: Quote:
"Dynamic range gives us a significant improvement for particular content while higher frame rates gives us clearly perceptible improvements for certain genres,” he said. “The conclusion is that a UHD system has to consist of the four parameters plus a better sound system. The industry, in general, agrees. I really do hope that the 'stupid broadcasters' win the battle with the evil consumer electronics industry... because we have been here before. As the conference title succinctly put it: "‘Not just more pixels but better pixels’".
But maybe not now. In particular the [consumer electronics] industry says 'hang on, actually we want to sell a lot of displays. What can we do right now? Resolution? Easy. Colourimetry? Easy. Frame rate? Oh sh*t. That is a problem. We need to spend money on it, on developing it a little bit more. Dynamic range sounds attractive let's do that one [too but let’s] try to block everything else that the stupid broadcasters want.” |

Details of BT's UHD package have been announced:
http://sport.bt.com/sport-football/n..._social_fb_aod The service will cost £15 a month, be available to order from July 24, and even includes a voucher for up to £500 off the price of an LG 4K/UHD television. Looks like the Entertainment Ultra HD package is more or less the same as the Entertainment Max package, although I couldn't see any mention of the Kids channels are are included in Max. |
