Yeah of course Sky give their footy away for free
Would any business pay hundreds of millions for something and not want to benefit ![]() When renewing my broadband contract the exact wording was " Thanks for renewing your BT Broadband to get BT Sport for free" BT Sport was then the 3 channels, not BT Sport Lite...I renewed for 12 months, and that is all I would expect them to honour the original package or release me from my contract. |

Don't get me wrong, I have no problem with them charging for it...it's just the underhand way they have done it.

Yeah good luck with that. I was in a similar position and their response was basically "Suck it. Our terms and conditions let us change what we like"

It's 5pounds for European games, I thought. If you don't pay you just don't get the euros. No problem, surely.

Instead of complaining about the £5 charge, Speak to BT and ask for a better deal.
BT are very good at giving discounts in return for a new contract term on BT Broadband. The discounts could more than cancel out the extra charge for BT Sport. |

BT Sport Lite is just BT Sport 1, if you want the other channels it will be £5 per month and an additional £4 per month if you want it in HD.
Be careful when downgrading, as it will automatically assume you are renewing for a new 12 month contract, apparently there is a box to tick, to say you don't want to renew your contract. The full BT Sport pack is now only going to be free for BT TV customers and that is what they are pushing...which does work out cheaper if you go for the most basic package which just has a one off £35 activation fee at the moment, but I don't trust a word this company says now, how long will they give it free for those TV customers who don't pay a subscription. ETA: any idea when this change is due to happen, please? |

We only changed our ISP to BT so we could continue watch MotoGP for free, which I'm fairly sure is on BT Sport 2. If it turns out we have to pay £60 pa to watch 18 races, I think we won't be renewing our contract either, especially as we only get half the download speed we used to get from our old ISP.

Problem is that people who watch content on BT Sports 2 and ESPN are losing out. When I signed up to BT it was on the understanding that BTS 1, 2 and ESPN would be 'free'. Wouldn't this be a breach of contract on their side?

1st August is when the new sports pack starts. So if you downgrade to Sports Lite you'll lose BTS 2 and ESPN then.
It's very unclear on their website, I can't work out if all the Sport channels are included in the basic package of BT tv or not. It says "includes BT Sport" but doesn't say which package. They hack me off so much that I'm tempted to revoke my 34 year boycott of Murdoch and all his works. Mind you, we'd need a satellite dish then. |

I wonder if they're going to bother to tell us, or just start charging us £5 a month?

Also bear in mind they will expect you to renew your contract for another 12 months to keep BT Sport Lite free for a year (depends if you believe them or not, that's what they said to me last year...now look what is happening), otherwise once your contract expires they will start charging you for BT Sport Lite, unless you cancel it. |

You have to opt out before 31/07/15 to avoid the £5 additional fee which basically pays for Lineker's fat salary. (Champs League & FA Cup)
So many people have complained to BT that they are reviewing the charge (apparently) - I have been advised to sit tight & not downgrade for now, but will monitor. This is sharp practice from BT. Say what you like about Sky but they are very transparent with their contracts & make it easy to downgrade (normally by offering great deals to continue). BT have a lot to learn when it comes to customer service & I'm not suprised they have made a horlicks of this. |

Sky? That is not my experience - I'm talking about customer service which is non-existent with BT. Sky sports offer so much more than BT & yes, I pay for that. But BT seem to think that liking sport = liking football - in my case this is so not true! & paying thru the nose for BT broadband counts for very little it seems...........

BT sport
Got an email today telling me that as of August this year I would be charged an extra £5 a month for BT sport. This email did not come from BT so I assume that the first I would have known about it was when the charge would have been added to my bill. Got straight on the phone to cancel which took ages as all she could do was trying to sell me various different things and trying to start me on new contracts. I said no cancel it straight away. She tried to make me keep the free one which is just football and rugby which I would never watch.

I hope it doesn't just start you automatically on another 18 month contract when you downgrade. |

This is what's annoying me - I have BT sport for free at the moment - although I don't use it. I am also out of contract now on Infinity. The way they have done this is to put the onus on me to downgrade.... so I have to do something to cancel something that I didn't want in the first place!
I hope it doesn't just start you automatically on another 18 month contract when you downgrade. When I downgraded the option was to keep receiving BT Sport Lite for free I had to renew for another 12 months, otherwise once you are out of contract they are going to be charging for that. I have had enough of BT now, so I have cancelled the BT pack completely, don't have to worry about them now charging me for it once my contract ends in December, then I can leave this company for good. |

BT Sport will have 4 channels for £5 if you have BT broadband but not BTTV , or free if you have BTTV , I don't agree that people who bought BT Broadband on the understanding that 3 channels were included should now have to pay for 2 of them ( even if they get a 4th channel at the same time), but I don't think my ordinary Sky TV pack should go up £2 to subsidise Sky Sports customer like you, if Sky pay 4billion pounds for EPL, they should may people like you pay for it, not expect people like me to contribute to keep your costs down You say BT think liking sport equals liking football, but Sky are equally guilty, given what they paid for EPL and don't forget they did want Champions league, but they blew their money on EPL and were outbid for it. Have you looked actually looked at what BT actually show ?, there is a lot more that just football on their channels, may be less than Sky but then it is a third of the price if Sky didn't have English premier league do you think anybody at all would be prepared to pay £45.50 (minimum) to watch their sport channels , for what , F1 ( snooze fest) and cricket and golf ?, You like Sky Sports, fine, I'm a Sky TV customer to, but I'm not evangelical about them, they are a business , and they are after your money, same as BT, BT say buy broadband get sports free, Sky say buy sports get broadband free, they both are stretching the truth as it isn't 'free' at all, |

But they haven't honoured what you signed up for, when renewing contracts, and then they automatically sign you up for it. Sky may not be the greatest, but BT are worse.

Am I missing something?
As far I can see if you have BT TV Starter pack then you don't pay anything, it's only on Sky where you have to pay £5 extra, am I wrong? |
