Re contract bt infinity? Avoid paying for bt sport

Just seen this in my bt

"Your broadband contract ends soon!
Renew your broadband today to avoid paying an extra £6.75 a month for BT Sport Pack and get it for £5/mth. Or get it FREE with BT TV."

I really don't need bt sport and wouldn't pay for it

Surely they can't just charge me £6pm for bt sport?

How do I re contract? Does it not just auto renew/roll over?

Might be a good time to look for another fibre provider if they plan on forcing me to pay for bt sport

If you re-contract you get BTSport for free, but presumably the slimed down BT Sport Lite, pay £5 and get the 'new' larger BTSport with champions league, don't recontract you can quit without penalty with a months notice, but unless you tell then to remove BT Sport the will charge £6.75, presumably for the reduced sport lite channel.
You don't have to take BT Sport lite or large though, you can just cancel that part
if you were so inclined BTTV (Youview box, TV channels etc) gets the bigger sport TV pack for free but would obviously recontract you for 12/18 months
But, if you just want broadband , cancel the BTSport, then if you are out of any minimum term you can leave or stay with only the normal month notice, and they shouldn't charge the £6.75

Hi, the £6.75 pm is probably because you opted to receive BT Sport via Sky. You can avoid this without taking out a new extended contract by asking BT to remove this option. If your contract is ending you move onto a rolling 30 day contract (usually at the same rate pre contact expiry). You also have the option under the rolling contract to opt for BT Sport Lite. If you are an existing customer looking for a new extended contract you will have a little bargaining power to get a better deal (full BT sport package for free perhaps) especially if you ask for the MAC code!

If you are out of contract BT Sport Lite will cost £6.75 per month, if you want the extra channels this will be an additional £5.00.

You can either cancel BT Sport and not be charged.

Alternatively you can renew your contract for a further 12 months and get BT Sport Lite for free or £5 extra will get you the extra channels.

You have to tell them what you want to do, otherwise they will automatically sign you up for the new BT Sport pack.

Page 53 of the current BT tariff guide confirms £6.75 per month is payable if you wish to continue to receive BT Sport via Sky whilst you are outside a long term contract i.e. You have defaulted onto a 30 day rolling contract. The £6.75 per month is not payable if you take up another long term contract or ask to cease having BT Sport via Sky.

As my long term contract expires in July BT customer services have confirmed to me verbally that for post 1st August, on a rolling 30 day contract I can switch to BT Sport Lite and cancel the Sky option and therefore incur no additional monthly charge for at least having access to view BT Sport 1.

They've done this to me too. I don't use sky - just a BT BB, Phone and TV customer.

I've canceled BT Sports as I don't want to pay and I do not want to extend my contract - might leave them in the summer.

They did the same with caller id - I ended that too.

Yeah I ditched caller I'd back then too. It's weird but I feel I get more value from my mobile these days than landline yet it used to be the opposite.
