Havent bought any for a while and now its got some additive in it which means that its not nice and crumbly, its like a gloopy slop. Doesnt taste of anything either.

Havnt purchased it for ages-got the hump when pack size went down from 200g to 180g for same price. Buy supermarket own brands now.

I haven't have philly for a while but I would never have described it as crumbly.

Do you buy the full fat one though? All of the light products have stabilisers in them which result in the 'spread' texture, a bit plastic. A cream cheese is just that, a new, fresh cheese, like ricotta. Yes its processed a bit in philly and supermarket equivalents but it should break up a bit like Boursin when spooned or knifed into. Thats what I mean by crumbly, not crumbly like a cheddar.

Been buying it for years.
I would never describe it as ever being "crumbly" - smooth and creamy, yes..

I agree, it has never been as thick as those other cheeses, always a spread.

Cream cheese, especially full fat, has never had the consistency of boursin. It's always been creamy and cohesive when cold and spreadable at room temperature.

You must be either misremembering or confusing it with another product.

I will buy some without the additive, I see that Waitrose own brand is just milk and salt.

Maybe crumbly is not the word but its not the texture they now have, it doesnt even taste the same.

You can see the texture in these pictures, they are not 'spread', they are cheesy, drier than a spread although obviously spreadable

Thats what full fat Philly used to be like, although all their pictures show a shiny spread, this is not what it used to look like.

But those aren't images of Philadelphia and, again, I say that I've never seen Philly looking like that.

This is a block of genuine philly. I assure you it hasn't changed. (Unless they market something specifically to cater to British tastes.)

All this fuss over a sterilised, mass-produced, additive-ridden cheese substitute? Surely there are far better genuine cream cheeses to get worked up about?

If it's tasteless, maybe they've reduced the salt. Just guessing.

I agreed earlier.

Now I just watched a telly ad for a new Philadelphia "whipped" (three varieties) and it definitely looks crumbly.

I've been buying Philadelphia for years and as you say, it has never looked like the photos which look more like ricotta.

If you've ever spread it on a digestive, it does kind of look like that a little bit..well at least it used to.

I'm with Tiacat on this one..
