Best not watch the new Thunderbirds then. That's lost what it had as well and for the same reasons.

How old are you and what age group do you think Thomas the Tank Engine is made for? You must be much older than its intended age group if you're able to post here.
You sound like the type of moaning bore who complained about the upcoming revival of Dangermouse "not being what it was". Hello - reality check! Any such revival is not designed for you and children nowadays expect something different to what past generations of children expected. |

I think the kids would certainly vote for the CGI versions.

I think Aardman Productions might well disagree with you.

It's just an animation technique. It's not exclusive to fantastic or impossible stuff!

Does anyone know why they`ve started making "Thomas The Tank Engine" in CGI ?
Which cretin is responsible for that appalling decision and which wall will he (or she) be shot against ? One of the best things about Thomas was the fabulous models, in fact, in a way, it was "real", it was the models coming to life. I used to love it and when we had our little terror I thought well that`s one programme I won`t mind watching with him ! But it`s now crappy CGI, I HATE IT !..... I`ve even surprised myself about how upset I am about it ! Did they make Thomas The Tank Engine computer generated because it`s cheaper to make than all the models ? Or is it because they think it`s more trendy, more "up to date" ? Is there anyone in the world who actually prefers a CGI Thomas The Tank Engine to the old models ? Lastly, if we buy our lad any Thomas programmes on DVD, does anyone know how can we ensure it`s the kosher version, not the crappy CGI one ? Plus they changed the theme music to that stupid their two their four. |

well I can see that it might be useful for animating faces on the front , but the trains aren't anthropomorphic . model sets would look better , plus it evokes the charm of model train sets .
. If you love the look of the books then it's the model train set based show which looks wrong. |

To be fair he has a right to his opinion and you have yours, Doesnt matter what the guys age is he can still enjoy the old Thomas series. I was never a fan of the CGI either. Revivals never tend to be as good as the originals and really TV executives should come up with their own ideas! |

It's awful now, devoid of all the charm of the original just like Thunderbirds is now.

Having a couple of tots I've also watched with aghast as Thomas, Fireman Sam, Postman Pat and all of the 'classic' shows have been CGI'd...
I guess that it's cheaper, quicker and just a more modern way of making kids tv... especially as there won't be anywhere near as many of them bothering to watch it these days. Also means they can have more storylines as they can simply CGI up a new set rather than spending months building one We were laughing the other day about how 'when we were kids', The Island of Sodor (the island on Thomas the tank) was a relatively small British island with a handful of mostly male steam trains and populated with white British folk... and now, there must have been some major land reclaimation taking place in the last 30 years, as they have an international airport, Japanese bullet trains, a huge dockyard and the place has become multicultural heaven. Times is changing, innit. |

My sons adored the early ones and would keep re-winding and watching. With the close ups of the faces and the straightforward storylines, the original Thomas the Tank Engine stories were also regarded as perfect to use alongside other techniques to help young children with autism learn to read faces and expressions. "Percy's sad!" "James is cross!" etc.

Alot of these TV companies seem obsessed with CGI.
