All initial releases have bugs. We have had only one release so far, and a number of updates.

Truth is the Windows user base is so massive, it is impossible to test every combination possible, and it could take years of testing to be really bug free.

Development would grind to a halt.

What is a bug? is it something that just affects a few out of millions? Or, is it something universal that affects all machines carrying the OS? Or, is it both?
A lot of people report something as a 'bug' not thinking that it could be more to do with their machine/setup than the actual OS.
Either way it's a near impossible job for any OS to provide something that would be considered totally 'bug' free..
I think the W10 insider programme must go a long way to sorting out most of the snags before they go wild.
but nothing is perfect in life and never will be....

Bugs will always be there, but with previous versions they seem to be in more obscure parts and the OS looked polished. If you do this and this and that and there is a full moon you'll have a problem, that sort of thing. I don't remember problems after installing W7 or W8. Unlike with W10 when something happened with each machine I installed it on. To me it almost looks as if Windows Insiders were replacing MS testers. Or it's a triumph of the will over a common sense and the Threshold that is coming was supposed to be the RTM, but they needed it on the market sooner.

I do have a lot of sympathy with that position given the huge number of potential hardware combinations that are inevitably out there. The test for Microsoft should perhaps instead be how quickly and competently the staff deal with bug reports and issues fixes. With the launch of Win 10, I wouldn't be surprised if many Redmond staff are doing quite a bit of overtime.

Some bugs I have noticed windows explorer doesn't save windows explorer windows position correctly, if you open a explorer windows & then move it to the centre of the screen & close it it will open down & to the right a bit. For some reason it will just cascade all explorer windows like that.

Another one is If I use the snipping tool to save a screenshot to the desktop the saved file wont appear until I right click the desktop & click refresh. some file types will appear after a short delay but others don't until you refresh the desktop.

The are also random system freezes where the system becomes unresponsive for about 30 seconds to 1 minute, the cursor wont move & ctrl-alt-del does nothing. when they system starts responding again it then does all the actions it wouldn't do when it was frozen.

There also issues with the start menu not working at all, you can't open it & sometimes it will take a system reset or installing a 3rd party start menu to fix.

i got a question on this ,i do get this information pop up on my pc's though i have tryed looking at downloading etc ,it just doesn't work,downloading that is. i have 1 pc running on VISTA,one running on WINDOWS 7 but crashes every so often,& laptop running on XP. if i could i would to have all 3 running on WINDOWS 10 ,but question is how do i get the boot disc & product code for it? & would it work with freemake video & music/audio downloader/converter/burner?

the windows 7 pc which i assume had the message will download the updates on the quiet and when everything's ready and your equipment etc is compatible will just ask you to give it the ok and then go ahead

vista or xp machines will either have to be upgraded to 7 and then let the auto updater do its magic like above or you could decide to backup data/wipe the machines and start from scratch if you have the required license keys for win 10 but it'll cost a pretty penny either way.

theres naughty ways to iron out problems like xp->10 but the ban hammer will strike hard if i mention them

ok ,well with W7 which i have ,your right it has done that ,HOWEVER as much i have tryed to make this work ,it somehow has managed to FAIL the intstallation,WHY don't know? as the others i am thinking about just getting the boot dis key etc,but realse the cost behind it ,question is wheres the best place to get ,i am expecting the price tag to be between £100-200? you might know better. as for naught routes ,no i think there is a fine line on these things.

Have you tried the Media Creation Tool? You can use it to create a disk and do a upgrade install. If you do a clean install you will need to buy a product key.

i can try do the media creation tool ,i assume i can google this? but yes i can also buy a PK ,the question where do i get a generunie copy from & what cost?

Don't forget you have to choose to upgrade, else you won't have an activated Windows 10 afterwards.

ok had a go at downloading this on the W7 pc & it was trying veryfy the download & then stop somthing like half way through using error code 0xc1800103-0x90002 using the wording were not sure what happened,but were unable to run this tool on your pc.if you continue experiencing problems ref the error code ,contact customer support team. i did check the bit sytem on this pc which is 32 so used that for the download.i must add this has been tryed before & probably with the same issue ,so til now i have just given up ,BUT if someone here feels theres a way round this ,my all ears

That error code seems to mean somethings wrong under the hood with windows updates

ok i am woking on this as i speak ,but the question i have found is where is the set up log on the pc? this is after i have delted all downloads as instrucked .they want me to delete all in there too

probably c:\windows.~bt\source\panther\setuperr.log would be the correct location, might need to enable showing hidden folders etc to see it in explorer

back on this ,this morning ,i have made a little more progress with this ,so much so i managed to get as far as INSTALLING W10 on to a pc that has a habit of crashing every so often ,so its been touch & go ,HOWEVER i got as far as about nearly 50% install of W10 when it did crash & lost it all. so now ,UNLESS i am able to find the LOST current install ,i am having to RE-START over again. to me its a bit of a pain in the rear end,but never mind

right i am back to sqaure one again on this & with my wife on my back to say just leave it ,i'll come back to it at a later point ,god willing,i'll probably try another pc of mine

What option are you selecting? Is it 'Keep all apps, data and settings'? If so, try a clean install option.

If you have a backup of your data, you could do a factory restore to get th Windows 7 PC back to factory defaults and then try the install.

right i am back,i can look at this opt no problem,i have to say i have tryed now 2 pc's this one where i was very close to getting W10 installed as in it stalled it & was running updates before the pc crashed & brought back W7 ,so where i can find this unfinished install i don't know? .also i have tryed today with a laptop we have ,its got WXP on it,again i am going round in circles trying to find the right download but all i am getting mainly is help pages & how to pages ,so thats where i am upto now

I think you need to get someone to help you.

There is no 'unfinished install'. It either works or it rolls back to Windows 7.
