I think you need to get someone to help you.
There is no 'unfinished install'. It either works or it rolls back to Windows 7. You can't install it on Windows XP, but the link to the download of the Media Creation Tool is on this page. ![]() |

Use MCTool to download the iso.
Burn the iso to DVD or use Rufus to burn the iso to a USB Flash Drive. XP & Vista require a Clean Install by booting from your newly created media and a License must be purchased within 30 days at a cost of about £100 or £200 (Home or Pro) W7 can be upgraded, not Clean Installed and not by booting the Media, but by running the setup.exe while W7 is running and the License is Free. If your W7 is so broken that it can't manage this, it must be fixed or reinstalled itself first, to SP1. |

A Dual-Core Processor Vista machine. upgraded to W7 via a 'cheap' License, then Free Upgraded to W10 might be a possibility.
My early 2009 2GB spare laptop is such. My main laptop is a late 2009 4GB W7 machine. Both are fine** for general use and running W10 now. (** With Adblock and Ghostery on the browsers for speed and security reasons) I wouldn't even try with an XP machine either. |

the laptop we have is around 10 years old & has XP installed on it.i don't think i will ruch out to get another LT unless it came at the same price as i would of brought the W10 disc. but even if i did that i have 2 other pc's to concider one which i am using right now ,it has a habbit of crashing every so often ,it had W7 put on it recently but again the pc is flat bed desk top which orig op under the XP version, then i got a more newer pc which i aqured about 2 years ago running on vista also a desk top which i do all my video burns on. in all cases would love to get W10 on all of them, probabl be only of using a boot disc at a price . but all that said ,they all work fine & feel it may be just cheaper to upgrade them all to W10 rather than paying out for 3 new ones & throwing away 3 generally good working pc's dispite one crashing every so often.

Given you can pick up a refurbed win 7 machine from 50 odd quid it'll probably be better to replace some of the older stuff you have for pretty much the replacement cost of the license anyway.

Mixing new software with old hardware is a bad idea. You are just going to give yourself even more problems to solve. If you can't get the Windows 7 machine to work, you have little chance with the other two.

What you probably need to do is to upgrade that machine to win 10 so MS has a hardware handle on your system and then to a clean refresh which will retain your data but will probably fix a lot of your problems

The £35 disks are not genuine. You're just going to make things worse.

Really you need a mate who's good with puters on the technical side...a few beers and probably you would be laughing, theres probably people siting with all sorts of unused licenses for you to use to pull systems forward legally
But if you can get a desktop with a legit license for win 7 for 50 quid or so why not just grab it, it's newer than the vista/xp machines and probably had 2-3 times the pew pew as well. |

When you ran the Windows 10 compatibility utility did it flag up any possible issues?
However, Windows 10 did not work well for me. Half the time all I got was a black screen and all I could do was turn the computer off using the power button, and the other half the time it worked for a minute or two and then I got the black screen and had to turn it off using the power button. Trying to select the option to restore Windows 7 against the clock before everything went black was like something out of the Crystal Maze! |

Finally got Windows 10 installed. I read a few people saying that their install had failed with no error message when they had about 10GB free disk space, but when they freed up a bit more space it worked, so I moved about 30GB of files off the drive and the installation completed (no idea why the installer claimed it was happy with the amount of free space when actually there wasn't enough fot it).
