It's the Universal apps you won't be able to get from anywhere else. Third party apps will still work on desktops. There hasn't been any indication that they would block these.
Obviously for phone and tablet the case is different and if you want an app that works through all three then insisting it only comes from the official store makes sense. i also found that some apps are put back as default, like I use foxit PDF reader and after the last update Windows own PDF reader became the default again. Is that going to happen every time they update? i would give Edge a go, but there is no way to import my bookmarks, only from Internet Exploder. I also thought that Edge was going to be able to use Chrome add ons. I can understand the closed garden with phones and tablets if they do not run the full version of Ten, like the old windows RT, Google and Apple does the same thing. |

Who has gone for the Custom Upgrade/Install and who has clicked Express (Recommended)?
I was rather perturbed by what MS thought default Privacy settings should be I only allowed sharing Location Data (for weather and news and maybe maps) |

You can control Windows Updates too, but most people have them either on or off because they can't be bothered to check the other options.

Not with windows 10 you can't, you can only defer, the settings that allowed you to download and not install, or notify you but do not download and install or do not check for updates have gone.

The metro, universal, modern apps or what ever MS like to call them at the moment is not a huge problem, apart from the fact that every time there is a main update, they seemed to either be reinstalled or pinned back to the start menu.

You will need to have firefox installed (works with a portable version) with your bookmarks html file loaded in firefox, as edge at the moment is not allowing html import. |

By George, for someone who has many times previously installed W10, taken a peek and run screaming back to W3.1, you seem to be morphing into a bit more of an experienced toe-dipper

Edge isn't finished yet. It will be able to use others add-ons.

Hmm, that doesn't sound too clever. Is this only for the modern apps?
But all the defaults are ok and it seemed to have not put any modern apps back on the start menu. but it have installed apps that I uninstalled like news and reader. |

If you are going to mess about with functions, features and under the hood (and comment), you should have everything installed, and or Google and read other forums and blogs widely.

Considering that this Os is suppose to be launched at the end of the month it should be finished.
There will be more updates to 10240 before the 29th and also after that date. |

The compulsory updates likely make those very short lived.

I have found Edge to be fantastic on first activation.
It lets me download Firefox and Chrome and then I dump it without a peep |
