Can you imagine Cortana in an open plan office? I think a lot of companies will see it as a disruptive feature and restrict it.

Try Firefox. I find comments often don't load and Ghostery is the culprit.
Or I suppose HOSTs file or ABP+ or something else could do it, if you have inadvertently got an entry for disqus.com in them.

No you don't need to pin them to the right side. Get rid of the tiles and right side of the menu and add what you need to the 'Quick access' You can then get to them quickly via 'File explorer' in the start menu, left side. You can pin any folders etc there as well, if needed..

Only four machines in the office, but I get what you mean, but you can use Cortana via the keyboard. I doubt the machines at work even got a sound card in anyway and all USB ports are disabled.

Long winded to be honest. The old Windows 7 menu idea is so much better. What Ms should have done is allowed the option to have a Windows 7 style menu. I suppose at least it gives the chance for software developers to make menus

The update appeared about 2am this morning.
Took about an hour on all machines I have.
Did while watching the Paris attacks.
No issues in any of my machines.
Did smile after each of the PCs logged in after the completion of the update that I should get excited about the new features. Do like the update/install process screens.
I will be more excited today though that I got an email overnight for free mince pies!

Noticed a few of the icons in the taskbar have changed, the 'Safely remove hardware and eject media' one looks like a cat with a tail.
Along with the AMD catalyst and Realtek audio manager icon updates. Not sure I saw those in any of the insider builds.
Looks like insider builds will soon have extensions for edge, some are saying before the end of the year.

Have noticed on my main desktop PC that run as my server, with three VMs, security cameras, weather station software and home cloud backup server, cpu temp has dropped about 12%.
Just ran a few of the youtube 4k tests and cpu temp only got to 45%, wheras before it would be pushing 58- 65%. That was with sligbox and another web video running in the edge browser.
So maybe something to get excited about.

MS have decided on their design to have the same system across all platforms. There are plenty of free alternatives.

You regularly slag off 10 but then say you don't use it.

I know you have been reported many times for this sort of behaviour, and I can see why.

There was nothing wrong with the normal start menu, just Ms being their normal we will do what we want and stick the users.

I really like the start menu
I tend to have all my favourite icons as medium and love the scrollable all prog list.
The calendar, weather, news and other app info tiles are enjoyable.
A bit of personilisation is needed, and that works well for me.
Its all there easily at a glance, power settings, docs, files etc. Well laid out in my view and certainly works so much better than the original W8 versions. Does not get in the way now.
Just seen one of the new app ads on the top left, liking that. Nice way to promote an app for those who not always visit the store. Made me install the app anyway to have a look.
The ads being relevant too I hear and this was as I have installed similar apps to this one.
You really notice how better it is when you have to go back to a W7 OS, I did last week and just said to myself - oh, remember well, but not anymore! Much prefer what we have now.

Nothing crap about it, just my opinion that they should have given people the choice, the same with windows 8 when they went with the start screen, they did not give people the choice and Windows 8 failed. windows 10 would do the same thing if they was not pushing it on to people.

I wish there was free alternatives or at least one that did not cost a small mortgage. I know you mean Linux and yes I use Linux, but some of the software I use is hit and miss. Find me a decent video editor on Linux to compare with Vegas and I would change right now. Ok I would keep windows as a second OS for some games I play.
I know Lightworks is available, but I am not that struck on it, Kdenlive is good, but buggy.

My main problem with 10 is not so much the look as that can be sorted, but the spying, which may or may not be able to be sorted, the forced updates. Also the fact that Ms can do what they like with these updates as no one knows what they do.

That is fair enough and some people will like the new menu, I have not found anyone in my social circle yet who do, but I am sure there is people out there who do.,
It is better than the Windows 8 start screen, that was awful, I never seen it since I put the start menu on.
MS scares me with Windows 10, they seem to be able to do what they want and only a few people seems to care. Look how they are trying to force windows 10 onto people, as bad as google with Android.

While I think that under the bonnet, windows ten is better than Xp, Vista, 7 and 8.1, in that it is faster, leaner on resources, Ms does scare me as much as Google does.

I think re recent events, there are many things that are scary, not this, don't be so over dramatic

Loving windows 10, it very much works with and alongside with all our multi device and ecosystem world and puts Windows 7 to bed for me

The strange thing is a lot of people in my social circle is going over to Apple, which is a bigger learning curve.


I wish there was for what I want to do, true I can stay with windows 8.1 or I could pay a fortune for a Mac and new software.


At the moment, but since MS force updates to people on Windows 10 and we have no idea what is in them, they could take that feature away.

I really think MS has nailed it with this OS - it's very good, very polished.

I use Windows at work but at home it is usually OS X. However, I am finding I'm now dividing my time equally between OS X and W10. So despite what noise747 says, it's not all one way traffic towards the fruity one.

Multi device and ecosystem world, I am not sure what you mean by this? Windows 7 and Windows 8 works with what I want to do multi device way. I can send a file from my computer to my tablet and read it and vice versa, we been doing stuff like that for years with attachments by emails. I can play music and video on my phone, computer and ps3, all uses different operating systems.

I can even set my calendar up in a browser, again using any os and it will link to my phone/tablet.
I had to drop Windows 7 because for some reason I could not get my usb 3 card working with it, shame really.

I do know how to use it, but still prefer the windows 7 style.
