Here is MS's non explanation as to why TH2 has been pulled.

Here is an speculative extract from another forum that I think has hit the nail on the head.
................................... quote from another forum .......................
Been racking my brains as to the logic of this seemingly insane move and what forced it?
MS's explanation is just pure media crap. It says what they have done but not why?
So I asked 'what is the difference between upgrading using an iso and upgrading via the media creation tool, and, at first glance, one would say none ie all features are there etc.
However there is one subtle difference between an upgrade and an iso which is not a technical feature but a COMMERCIAL feature ie the ability to activate a clean iso using old keys.
10240 does not have this, but 10586 does.
The only logical explanation is that the new activation mechanism is has a loophole that enable people to activate multiple installs of Windows 10 using a single licence key.
Let me explain my logic:
When the new procedure was mentioned, the MS wording was unclear, but if you read it closely intent was not to allow unused 7/8 keys to activate but to allow 7/8 keys previously used on PCs to activate 10.
If you legitimately upgrade and activation goes wrong, it does not really matter what 7 or 8 key you use to reactivate.
However, if it is a clean install, and you use a 7/8 key used on PC, then again it is ok.
But what if using an unused key activates it (as 10586 does), but MS do not keep a record as such of unused key and its link to a 10 licence, only checking its validity as a key?
This would mean you could use same 7 key to activate 10 multiple times.
MS would certainly not want to publicly announce this as it would be a massive gift to pirates. By reverting to 10240 and forcing upgrades, the above (speculated) loophole goes away.
