If you have UAC set to the maximum, WU has a decency to trigger it before it starts upgrading and you can stop it. UAC message from Windows Update = no good

have they done some update to search , before you used to type in the box and you got some results then there was an option to click for My Files, now that has disappeared and the my files option has gone you just get a short list of what it has found but it doesn't display all of them

Installed yesterday, ran Super anti spyware, and it found 4,381 "threats" ie cookies, which I have removed.
Seems OK so far, but early days!

Your install probably went a bit wrong and the speed could have been cured with a clean install very quickly..
Not sure how you found it uglier than 8.1...Must admit, that's a first.
Oh well, good luck...

I also wasn't too impressed that it upgraded with out my permission.

I did a clean install today (using Media Creation Tool) and everything's working just the same as it was when 8.1 was installed. I had an idea that the upgrade might have been the problem (just a tiny one). Not a single problem so far.

It will have upgraded to 10 automatically because of your update settings being set to download and install updates automatically. It wouldn't have done it if you had changed them.

I assume you mean when MS moved the goalposts to slip it in as a recommended update!

They may have slipped it in, but it still wouldn't have been downloaded if the update settings had been changed.

Not true! Windows 10 may download automatically, but it will not install unless you click on the prompt to do so.

Yes, I know exactly what happens during the process of upgrading to Windows 10.

I remember reading some accounts to the effect that a dialogue box came up and it required a positive response of some sort otherwise Win 10 would install itself automatically. Was that ever the case?

Yes.
I last cleaned up 10 days ago, and I usually get 100 -150 to delete..
So would guess 4,000 or more from the Windows 10 download.

Yes this appeared on my PC but luckily I caught it in time. The constant nagging is a pain but this is a disgrace.

It should be mandatory as it's light years ahead of what has gone before - period.

What! something happened without your 'permission'? Well you certainly showed it hey, you slagged it off and banished it, cor, I'm impressed.

You really need to get someone to review your computers security and AV settings. Once that is sorted then your browsing habits need some scrutiny.

Windows 10 Pro Notifications in Action Center.

How do I disable "Install typing features for your language" notification that pops up sometimes every half hour? I've Googled around quite a bit but nothing seems to work.

I've never seen that. How long have you have W10 installed? It must go away by itself.

Thanks for that link - that's it.

It is a bit much when you have to proactively cancel an upgrade that's now automatically scheduled by default.

I installed it on Monday on desktop. But I've had it on laptop for about 6 months and never saw this.

Anyway, I eventually clicked on something that said it's now installed these typing features and I've not seen anything since about 6 this evening, so it may have done the trick hopefully.

"These hardware demands are only particularly relevant for system builders; they'll need to meet the new specs for machines that ship with Windows 10 preinstalled. Windows will still install and run on machines with less than 2GB; it'll just run better on systems with more memory."

Means that all those tablets with only 1GB Ram will fast disappear.
They should also have mak,de 64GB the hard disk minimum, 32GB leaves little spare.
