I included Canada - that makes 6.
I was looking at your last sentence when making that post.

FFS - do you really believe this!

I would be surprised if even as high as 10% of users do usb audio recording.

The reason majority do not wish to updgrade is simply the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" principle coupled with the fact many do not like change, or are frightened to change.
There's a LOT of YouTubers out there that will be using USB microphones and have either a Mac or Windows 7. I've seen quite a few videos that have shown Windows 7 on the person's monitor (screen capture and just shown on the monitor), and the videos have been from 2015 to this year.

One reason I hesitate is that Lenovo state that they do not support W10 for my two z370 laptops. No reason given - they're not very old and are well-specc'd - but I suspect issues with the switchable graphics card. The system has a i5 with Intel HD graphics and a nVidia card with a hard switch and software that engages the nVidia for specified uses. I believe the software switching system is called Optimus.

Has anyone upgraded a similar machine and with what success?

I don't, not for 100% certain. I said 'will' in a sort of guessing/assuming way going by the amount of USB microphones that I've seen shown in their videos.

How odd. I have a very low spec Lenovo that runs Windows 10 perfectly fine and even has drivers on the Windows 10 driver page for the model. I'm assuming yours has a SSD? Sadly mine is hindered by Sata 2.

Sony said the same thing about their VAIO laptops with dire warnings not to upgrade to W10. However, it's up and running perfectly on mine.
You could always try it on one of them, if it doesn't work properly just revert it back to the original OS....

Surface Book has a similar setup, but it comes with W10 already installed and it is MS own product. I guess the only way is to try and be prepared to go back (backup etc).

Depends what they mean by "unsupported." It can have two meanings.

1. Does not work at all.
2. Works, maybe even perfectly, but if you encounter any issues the vendor is not guaranteed to supply any fixes.

I agree with Samsung in that it's best to wait until fully stable drivers have been released for your hardware.

Hmm - Samsung - largest android tablet seller - no conflict of interest there is there?

HP and Dell shamefully said the same as their tech support staff were overloaded and were not prepared to help their own customers.

Sony (before they sold Vaio brand) deliberately restricted '10 approved devices' to a handful so they restricted their legal support liabilities ie if a person lost data because they upgraded a non approved device, then Sony could legally claim it was nothing to do with them.

So even if old devices are compatible, many companies will not state that - after all it is in their interests to sell NEW devices.

So frankly, any articles like above (from the well know journalistically accurate Daly Star) are not worth the paper they are printed on.

The US isn't an EU country.

Looks like we're both wrong then because Canada isn't in . It's 4. I'm assuming you actually meant EU countries?

The Samsung issue:

After its article was published, The Register was contacted by Samsung with a statement in which a spokesperson apologised for the "incorrect information" provided to the customer:

We apologise for any confusion caused by a recent incident where a customer service representative mistakenly provided incorrect information about Windows 10 upgrades for Samsung notebooks. We would like to remind our customers that they can visit the Samsung website where there is detailed information on the Windows 10 upgrade applicability for each Samsung notebook model run by Windows 7, Windows 8 and Windows 8.1.

It's not clear if the support rep provided similar advice to other customers, or if this was an isolated incident.

W10 will run on just about anything - couple of dustbin lids held together with string etc. It's by far their best and most robust OS to date.

So good that the USB audio recording level isn't as loud as it is on Windows 7.

Not USB audio recording level again! This is not a universal problem - just with some drivers. Give it a rest.

The size she is now if she wants to break an Internet again she'll just have to sit on it. And I find the "Twitter" a bunch of losers and professional complainers on the lookout for something to whine about next. And rags treat them as if they were some sort of authority on something Uff, I feel better now
