Windows 10 is pretty good let me tell you.

I was a die hard windows 7 fan for years and after installing 10 during its early incarnations I hated it - would not hear otherwise!!!

But having installed it 5 months ago on my laptop I really like it. It's so much faster than 7! and in reality it's not really that different to use.

go for it people.

Couldn't find files....freezing all the time...even on this laptop I got on Friday it freezes and I get the little blue circle when I'm trying to do something. It might just be me but windows 7 never had this problem
Are all the updates installed?

Another feature which is hidden away is a right-click on the Start button which brings up a useful menu.
That's been around in windows 7 since year dot.
Been there since windows 8.
Yes, maybe, but I have never found it before because I have never needed to use it. I first found it on Windows 10 when a left click on the Start button failed to do anything on occasions (I think that must have been fixed now).

Whatever you say, it's still "hidden away"!

Because it's deprecated. 'Settings'.

How long before the Control Panel actually disappears and the Modern UI runs all things W10?

I found the Control Panel and dragged its shortcut onto my desktop.

One thing I did suddenly discover was the sudden lack of the ability to copy and paste. After finding that this is a widespread problem, I solved it my uninstalling the keyboard driver and rebooting. I was worried that this might prevent me from typing in my password, but all went well and the facility was restored.

Too late for people to go for it unless they pay for it or buy a new computer with it. Ok there is a way for people to get it still, well two, but one of them is not legal.

Still with 8.1 here.

It's still happening. Happened to me this morning for the second time. The solution that works consistently is to just pull the plug under power. The PC resets and left click is back.

It is definite now.

RS1 is now available on the VSLC (volume software licence centre), and the version is 14393.5 (same as latest Insider build).

Have just installed Classic Shell to replace the W 10 start menu etc., marvellous! I now have the same Start Menu on my W7, 8.1 and 10 installations.

Among other useful things, it separates the proper programs from the stupid apps, which I can now happily ignore. Completely. No space-wasting start menu tiles either. Also I turned off everything I possibly could do when installing, on a local account, even cortana, hibernate, sleep and fast start are now off. Next up - replace Defender by Kaspersky.
I've heard about this Classic Shell, but after turning off every one of the new apps and clearing all the rubbish off the task bar, my desktop looks and behaves exactly the same as in Windows 7 (except for that ridiculously small 'show desktop' shortcut). The only place where I can see any tiles is after clicking the Windows button in the bottom left corner. I've reduced them to just seven and have only kept One Note and Phone Cpmpanion because I have no idea what they are yet. I doubt if I'll need PicsArt either, but that's for another day.

In Microsoft edge, and if I use the scroll thing, can never tell if I am back in 100% view.
I am using Firefox anyway.

Oh and ahhh, remember when hippy-dippy types warned us all back in the 1990s that Microsoft would eventually use their PC market domination to screw us all against a wall.
We ignored them as anti-capitalist idealists.

Well, it just happened everybody, anybody thought you would ever be forced to get a new PC operating system every three years ?

No I don't, no we didn't, and no they haven't. You just haven't got to grips with Edge is all. I recommend using whatever browser you normally use instead, or just learn how to use Edge.

The Edge is a browser, not an operating system. I'm ignoring it.

Only if you use assisstive technology due to a disability. People have had long enough to upgrade.

But I did read that it would not be made available to all devices from the off, rather that it would be a phased release.

Click the three lines at the top right of the browser and it will tell you at the top of that drop down what the zoom level is. Change it either by using the buttons on that menu or, a quicker method I always use, is hold down Ctrl and use + or - on the keypad

Is this worth upgrading or not

Do you not think that it might have been a good question to ask in....ooh, maybe the last year or so?

It might be worth trying the Microsoft Start Menu Repair tool:

I do feel sorry for those that can't upgrade to 10 for free for whatever reason, Windows 10 has stepped up to the mark and is improving all the time.

To those that vowed never to upgrade to 10 due to some blinkered view of Windows 7, enjoy your old OS while the rest of us stride into the future. Paying up is always a option

It was definitely worth upgrading when it was free. Now that you'll have to pay for it I suppose it depends on your income and how much you use your computer.

Bit of a daft question at this stage of the game, to be honest.
