I suppose that is what I did, although I was really delaying the upgrade as long as possible to allow Microsoft to sort out the gremlins.

I'm not sorry I upgraded, as W10 runs very well on my 2009 vintage laptop and the way I use it is very similar to W7 anyway.

I just hope the August upgrade doesn't screw it up.

Comparison - depends if you drive something like a Vauxhall Vectra and were offered a Land Rover Evoke?

Don't expect Evoke style luxury with crappy old components though.

Tempted to unplug my PC from the internet until the update has been guinea pigged by others for a few days.

Got an iPad and XP based netbook I can surf on in the meantime.

Sad news on that to abuse.

Also (listen carefully I shall whisper this) - currently the free upgrades are still working if you use MCT but it might not work once RS1 is released later today .

If they are worried about this offer being abused, they could simply remove and change the download links till they have a proper solution in place. I still don't get this though. Is it the usual that only when you are told you can't have something only then one becomes really interested? It's bloody stupid if you ask me. People were screaming bloody murder when MS got aggresive with their offer and suddenly they are ready to abuse a solution for disabled people?

That depends on whether the two sets of people are the same. I imagine those complaining about MS's pushing of Windows 10 are quite happy that there's now some respite. As for those who are abusing the Assistive Technologies route to getting Windows 10, they're probably another set of people. Best not confuse the two, unless there's a convenient need to generalise.

Let's say it this way, the deadline set by MS for the free offer was hard to miss by anybody. They may not be the same groups, but unless they disabled GWX they knew. And if they disabled it and missed the deadline, well, they got what they had asked for.

Nothing yet for my Surface Book and I'd expect some favoritism with their own HW Probably they will do it in waves again.

I doubt that was it, it was very small. Installed in less than 1 min.

I got that one now, too, very small. I'd say it's in a preparation for the big stuff.

But that is naughty, very naughty!

Now it continues with a download of something bigger. From what I have read insiders are getting this one too, probably to bump all installations to the same version.

It's taking its time to download, now at 45%, it's still this 1607 thing. It could be because it's MS hardware that I cut the queue.

The amount of buzz and excitement for this release is very encouraging. People are desperate to get the Anniversary Update on sites like reddit, Facebook and Twitter and are searching for workarounds to jump the queue. (Windows Media Creation tool is the shortcut to get it now btw). This is a home run for Microsoft.

Has that now been updated to include the anniversary update?

7 is indeed a bit long in the tooth but still very necessary for me as I have a handful of programs and games that need it. One game still needs W XP! That's why I will be sticking with my two triple boot setups for the foreseeable future (I have 10 as well now, stripped as bare as I can make it).
