This was a symptom of the Modern UI dying. Killing the explorer process revives it. I usually see my Notification Centre go first.

Edge is faster than before but I'll have to check the mileage now I have extensions. Are some people perhaps running it with Flash enabled and finding it slow? Only a few sites I use are making me toggle it on and off, I just wish it would die.

Gad, I haven't had Flash enabled for a long time - scary stuff.

I don't know if this is of interest to anyone but on Distrowatch, there's an ad offering the Windows 10 Bible for free provided you supply a current email address and the link is here: http://distrowatch.tradepub.com/free/w_wile220/prgm.cgi

I cannot vouch for the content since I don't use Win 10 but Wiley is a reputable publisher.

It gets excellent reviews on Amazon and the ebook costs £24 on there. I'm not going to read it because I already know everything about Windows, but it's a great deal for anyone who lacks my skills and knowledge.

Ahh Grasshopper - you still have a long way to go to catch up with your Master.

I am really not impressed, my work office365 email account stopped working. The app keeps repairing it, "succeeding" and then repairing it again. It does work on W8.1. It's really frustrating that they can't get the big mainstream things right.

I have had similar issues and best solution I found was simply to use Revo uninstaller to uninstall it and reinstall from scratch. Revo just does a better job of clearing up registry related crap etc.

I agree it is crap you need to resort to a third party tool for an MS product but this is not specifically a windows 10 issue as I got same crap with Office on earlier versions. Revo always seems to do the trick - it just basically nukes the install better.

I removed and added the account back and it started working again. It's just typical MS these days, it gets itself in a funny state and there's no way out of it. I have a W10 phone that after a while won't connect to my home Wi-Fi. All my devices are happy with it, but I have to restart the phone and it will connect. For me it's all the same pattern. Things won't work reliably all the time in W10.

When one creates a usb recovery drive using the tool in windows do all updates get included? i created a recovery drive last year before the updates, if i did another one would it be the same or would it include the recent updates?

If you recreate a recovery drive it includes all but last 30 days updates. It will automatically update to latest version thereafter.

When I sometimes use Edge with Flash disabled, the only time I need to enable it is when I want to watch anything on Catch Up services. Otherwise I'll just leave it disabled.

Nothing to do with Windows 10 but....

The MS Office 365 removal tools are here:
https://support.office.com/en-gb/art...c-2fdf5dbf61d8

Revo is not recommended as it can remove Windows registry keys and can make installing a product impossible later until Windows is installed again.

There are three levels to Revo - it is only the deepest level that might do this. Level 2 is usually fine and I have used it on many pcs to remove Windows rather than Windows own uninstaller.

It is ludicrous you need a special tool from MS to uninstall its flagship product!

Windows 10 software condemned by Which?

Have read a number of Which reports on certain products over the last few years and quite honestly I sometimes think they have lost the plot. They often go for short term value for money rather than the quality or longevity of a product.

I read the article and simply smiled to myself. It will be the usual numpties who struggle with anything which gets more complicated other than startup and shutdown.

WellI am unhappy with W10. The recent cumulative update reset settings I didn't want reset.
It was similar to a new build. Do I have to endure it every month?

I spend lots of time giving advice and fixing my own machines.

I know how to rebuild my machines, but many people are completely flummoxed. It's out of order.

What annoys me the most is it is designed to install what it and when it wants including drivers and you have no say.

My drivers have settled down, although I have set me to metered and can turn off Windows Update Service (not desirable)

And there is a method for tweaking the Device Restrictions so even if a dodgy driver is downloaded, it can;t be installed on say a Graphics Card/Onboard or a Sound Device or Touchpad

It's only slightly convuluted but many people ae scaredof tinkering. They shouldn't be subjected to the hassle.

Anyway, shout if you get insurmoutable problems.

I'd have expected better from Which?, to be honest. I thought they were all about helping the uninitiated to be more confident when using their PCs, not scaremongering. "Last month, millions of webcams were rendered useless after an update to Windows 10"! Rendered useless, eh? It's a good job that they can be rendered useful again with a few clicks. Well, a few million clicks I suppose. Luckily many hands make light work.
