I'll probably wait until 10.1 or the first service pack to come out, which will address many of the initial problems. I am happy to let others find the bugs and other usability issues first, and wait for Microsoft to fix them.

My Windows 7 and 8 boxes work fine at the moment, and as I rely on them heavily for my work and therefore my income, I will only upgrade once I am certain there will be no issues.
According to Microsoft there will not be any service packs for windows 10, just incremental updates that come in through the windows update service.

With the home edition of Windows 10 you will not have a choice whether to install critical updates as they will be installed automatically.

Yes I am, I have my copy reserved now that it's been confirmed that DirectX 12 will reduce overheads and increase performance in games written for the new API on Nvidia GPUs from Fermi upwards.

The only good thing that was on Vista was Windows Mail, Which has being copied to the new machine via a flash drive.

If you use Windows Media Center for Satellite + Freeview, then you're SOL with W10 - WMC is being retired and cannot even be installed as a paid for addon (as with 8). Story here

I use WMC + quad HD tuners for TV, so I'm sticking with W7 for the time being

{ SOL = sh*t outta luck ]
that sucks.....no upgrade for me then

I'll probably get it for our main PC, but I'll wait and read the forums before downloading it just in case it turns out to be a machine-bricker.
For my two laptops in my hobby room I may not bother. I use both these computers to run USB test equipment and I fear compatibility problems.

Got Windows 7 and more than happy with it. Most likely will get 10 during the free window but not right away. Give a few weeks to see what the reaction is!

i will get it, but may wait a couple of weeks before upgrading.

Does anyone know though, is it available to download for dree for fresh installs, my girlfriend has vista, and eventually id like to upgrade her PC to the latest OS as well, obviously it would need to be a clean install.

Even better news is that you don't have to upgrade your graphics card to take advantage of DX12's reduced overheads and more efficient use of the GPU. Any game written specifically for, or updated to use, the new DX12 API will have significantly better performance over DX11 when running on any post-Fermi Nvidia card (Geforce 400 series and upwards).

Are you getting it or not? Even through its a free download to Windows 7 or 8 users. They may be a problem with downloading it in the workplaces until its gets approval from bosses.
so the free download is for real
someone told me not to download it as virus
and when will the free download be available

The free upgrade offer is for Win7 and upwards so you would need to pay. Whilst it would certainly be more optimized than Vista, It's probably not going to be worth the cost and hassle on a PC of that age IMO.

You're probably doing the right thing. The people that will benefit mostly are the people with software on their laptop which was designed for a tablet!(windows 8).

I wonder how many people like me ar thinking that this is the last chance for Microsoft before I go fully Apple.

If your workplace has any sense it won't allow any updates on company machines until they have fully tested it with all of their in-house applications. As an IT manager, the last thing you need when you have 1000 PCs to support is people manually downloading Windows 10 onto their work machine.

The vast majority of companies are still on Windows 7 (and some on XP) because there wasn't any benefit to them for going to Windows 8 - and there were lots of problems too. Windows 10 is a different proposition though and there are some significant advantages so you will slowly see corporate IT departments upgrading - though the never do anything fast.
