Can't remember how Windows 10 turned into surge protectors but if any passers by are really interested to learn about them I suggest you ignore weston and read this:
http://thewirecutter.com/reviews/best-surge-protector/
westom could learn a lot from it as well.

Or invisible dogs. I think it started when somebody mentioned switching their PC off at the wall at night.

It piqued my curiosity too so I watched one of Linus' videos earlier that explains things, if anyone else is interested.

I does bother me though, which is why I switch them off. They're all quite close to the bed and create a surprising amount of light. There's a bright orange LED on the plug board, a green one on the speakers, a blue glow from the monitor and a brighter one from the front of the PC.

Telemetry is data that windows 10 sends to MS, their reason is it makes a better Windows for us, but it can send info about your computer to Ms, there is a way to cut down the info, but officially in the pro and home versions of Windows 10 there is no way to stop it. Ms have also tried to push it onto Windows 7 and 8.1, but that can be stopped by getting rid of the update.
the only problem is now that Ms have decided to roll updates together like they have on Windows 10, there is no easy way to see what is being installed. I have stopped downloading updates on my windows 8 machine now.

some people may not mind the telemetry, but there should still be a way to turn it off.

Cortana, it can be turned off in that you can not use it, but is now still running in the background, makes me wonder why and what data is being sent.

What was you on about?

Just because it works fine for you do not mean it does for other people. Most people hated the start screen on windows 8 and yet I know someone who thinks it is great and do not have any menu on windows 8, in fact he wants it on Windows 10 when/if he eventually change over, I think the closest 10 have to that is the full screen menu.

If I use Windows 10 again, I will use start is back, I do not like the tiles.

@noise

If you already bought Start is back then fine, otherwise Classic Shell is free

O&O Shut up 10 is also free, for switching features Off

I really can't understand these objections because right-clicking on the Windows sign produces a menu virtually identical to the old one. Even with left clicking I only have the calendar and weather tiles there, although I don't know why I bother because I've never used them. I could very easily get rid of them.

Hey Noise.....Could you do us all a favour and stop.....You don't even use W10, yet you insist on repeating the same old rubbish ad infinitum.
Stop whinging about something that doesn't exist. i.e The start menu, as you point out can be changed if you don't like it, same as it always has........For the love of Mike, desist............

Are you shutting the pc down completely, or putting it into hibernate/sleep? What does that pc light indicate?

I don't have the most up to date pc myself, but every single one of my pc towers doesn't show any lights when I shut them down via Windows.

What pc do you have?

You obviously need to get your own place then you wouldn't need tech in your bedroom.

noise747 complains about every version of Windows. He said he would never use Windows 8, but then someone bought it for him. Then he complained about Windows 8.1, but I think he uses that now. He is on my ignore list so I don't have to read the whinging.

Even so, blue LEDs can be extremely bright and distracting in a darkened room. There is one on the phone next to my bed and I have to prop something in front of it to hide it.

What does Abba have to do with this?

i do use windows 10, just not on my own computer, granted it is only every now and again, and these things do exist, so it is not rubbish.
Anyway, someone asked me why I did not use it or something like that and I told them.
