Yes, Total of eight machines upgraded and all running without fault. No TP programmes to change anything on any of them.
You have to be careful though, if you say things like that on here you get accused of being a fan boy or some other silly name. ![]() I suspect some folk my have issues trying to run 10 on older computers, driver updates etc but overall I think MS have done a grand job with 10. |

That's spelt "boi" incidentally...
![]() Me too. Upgraded both my desktop and laptop with absolutely no problem. The only adjustment was to turn off the useless Cortana (I now have a magnifying glass instead of a circle on the taskbar) and the Office 365 nags. |

I upgraded my laptops to W10 because computers are a hobby, as well as a tool.
And since I give Tech Support here, and on another forum, I wouldn't be able to do it if I was still on W7 I don't really mind that it isn't a million percent. I do mind the MS Corporate bullshit and hyperbole and failure to be more transparent over problems. |

Or it could be argued these users are going forward into the past. These are the type of people that can't adapt to new situations. As a manager in a large organisation before I retired I would often come across people like this. They would singularly fail to see the reason for adopting new working methods and always wanted to do things 'the old way'. You could discuss, cajole and try your best to get this type of worker to change but it would often result with little success.
In the end they would be told if they couldn't adapt then it may be better if they looked for alternative employment. This final ultimatum often did the trick and you know what, quite often these same people were the keenest advocates of the change a few months down the line. The new start menu is simply a 'better' updated version of what has gone before. What's not to like? |

I'll leave what's considered "better" to the user who's using their machine. Their machine, their rules. Your machine, your rules. My machine, my rules.

it is when you get to machines which have hardware that is different Windows 10 have problems. There is tinkering and tinkering and if just adding a start menu makes Windows 10 fall over, which it don't by the way, then windows 10 is not fit for general release. The problem is with this software as a service, there is nothing to stop MS changing stuff they do not like us doing. Also the problems i have with Windows 10 is still there, so even if it greatly enhanced my computer, which it did not, I would still think twice before installing it again, Ms is not going to address these concerns. |

I can cope with change, and try not to tut too much over extra clicks and navigation methods, but what really gets my goat is that Taskbar features often have an unacceptable lag to load.
W7 was instantaneous. Lag may be half a second, 1 or 2 seconds or many seconds. Just took me 3 clicks, with a few seconds between, to launch Touch Keyboard (right hand side of Taskbar). Try it yourself. Why? |

You have to be careful though, if you say things like that on here you get accused of being a fan boy or some other silly name. ![]() sometimes some people do defend the product they are using as it if it is the most important thing to do, I use what works for me, not what other people want me to use or what works for them. It is like people who seems to change stuff like their change their socks, like Mobile phones, I get people say, why don't you update your phone, because i do not want to. My Nexus 4 does fart more than I want and I have a sim only contract on it, so it cost me a lot less than what some people are paying. £30 or more a month just for a phone is madness in my view, but in others it is normal. I tend to keep things until they go wrong unless there is some benefit to me in updating, looking at changing the board, memory and CPU next year of this computer, the board is more or less 5 years old at least, while I got the CPU early last year, I know that it is not the best CPU around by any means, an AMD 8 core thing, but it works well for what it is and when I got it, I knew it was only a stop gap, just waiting to see what AMD brings out next year, I am not a fanboy of AMD, but there is nothing else around apart from Intel. As for Windows itself, it is a tool to run the software and hardware I want to use,l maybe next year I will have little choice but to update to ten when i get a new CPU, but i will tinker with it and try to stop it talking to Microsoft,. just like I have with Windows 8.1. |

I'm surprised someone as eager to embrace new technology as you are didn't get it. The link takes you directly to the anecdote in the video, and it lasts less than a minute.

First the most used items don't seem to update properly, and the worst thing about the menu is how you can't deliberately pin programs to the recently used list, you've just got to hope that the programs you want to use eventually end up on there. With the hierarchical Windows 7 Start menu it is far easier to find the item you want to start. I do like the ability that Windows 10 provides of alphabetical order, which I would have found useful on occasion if it had existed in Windows 7. |

To Stone Free
Why do you want to pin programmes to recently used list ? It does not seem to me to be of any use. All my programmes are in the programmes list. My desktop has shortcuts to most used programmes. |

Also, any program can be pinned to the Start menu as a tile, which you can resize and place wherever you think is appropriate. If you don't like the idea of tiles and you'd simply prefer it to appear in your Most Used, you're missing the point. It's a bit like wishing that something would appear in your YouTube Recommended list and getting annoyed when it doesn't, rather than just clicking 'Subscribe'.
(By the way, 'programmes' are what you watch on TV, 'programs' are what you use on a computer. )

It really isn't, I've tried to get used to it. Colleagues of mine have always been anti-The Ribbon that was introduced in Office 2007, but I think they are just set in their ways as looking at it without preconceptions I did find it more useful than hundreds of toolbars, its only disadvantage is when the ribbon items are not properly categoriesed, whereas I have kept the Windows 10 Start menu since the beginning, and I still find it far slower to use.

IIRC your machine is an old AMD based unit, you use an 'old' printer and and 'old' scanner so you perhaps have some issues with drivers where you device provider has not supported W10?
All works fine with Windows 8 and by all accounts if they work on windows 8 they should work on ten, since drivers are more or less the same. What about my sound card, why do windows ten keep installing drivers for it that do not work? i install drivers, it works fine for a couple of days and then Windows ten decides the drivers are no good and install it own drivers that do not work. sure it is the same chip set, but modified by Asus. |
