Thats how mine started. It appeared about 1pm at 140mb, but didnt change until nearly 7pm when it said 2.6gb, it's now on 5.6gb
I suppose if it was region released, people in Asia would be installing it as we speak. |

Why EST? Microsoft are on the west coast are they not?
So that's PST which is 8 hours behind us in the UK - So 8am tomorrow (29th) And of course, not everyone will have their PCs on at whatever time is activates. Unless you are one of the lucky ones who have had it activate already!!!

So we might be good to go from midnight! I wonder if there is a big red ABORT button at Microsoft HQ - If people in Asia start finding their PCs not working, they hit the button and no one else's will fire up. Sure as hell I would have such a button.

People going for the 'free' upgrade are crazy imo. It's got disaster written all over it. Expect bugs, crashes, programmes not working, sluggish performance, nagware etc. Stay on Windows 7 (or 8.1 if you are happy with it) and if 10 proves a hit get it when you upgrade your machine next.
If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

That would make sense for it to activate at midnight local to the country it's in. that way it's staggered across the world and it is doing what it promised the 29th!

The first downloads were in New Zealand at Midnight local. So it will be the same worldwide apparently as Midnight strikes.
Unless you are one of the lucky ones who have had it activate already!!! ![]() Basically, whilst interested, I'm not a part of this download/install/crash cycle. ![]() They interesting thing is the activation as many are already getting it downloaded, but when will it start installing and saying "Hi" - (Yes sorry for the spoiler alert, but it does welcome you with a "Hi" as it finishes up installing and a few other HAL type disturbing comments. )

To be fair, the free upgrade for Win 7, 8 and 8.1 users will be available for a year and towards the end of that period, you'll invariably find that very many of the early bugs will have been ironed out and it will in all probability be a stable and secure operating system which is perfectly safe to download and use...
Spoiler
It even used some old divers that I thought it might object to but it didn't. It seems a lot easier on drivers than past windows versions. - I even have an old WI-FI dongle that I don't use much do it worked fine on XP but wouldn't work on Windows 7. Then some bright spark actually wrote their own Windows 7 driver for it, which he let everyone have. I plugged it in to Windows 10 and it loaded up a working driver for it without me having to do anything. So it seems a lot better thought out than old Windows versions. Far less driver headaches. The one thing I don't like is the white windows on every folder you open. The edge are not clear enough for my eyesight. I have found how to make the border a solid colour which helps with visibility, but apparently it does have an "Aero" setting that gives it transparent borders like windows 7, but I haven't found out how to turn that on yet. The task bar is transparent but the window frame are solid and ugly. |

My Windows 7 machine seems to have stopped at 5.71 GB. Is that it or is there more to download?

OK so I've only been using it for two days, but I haven't found any major bugs at all.

The task bar is transparent but the window frame are solid and ugly. You can enable an 'aero glass' effect in the registry, but that just gives you an aero blur effect on the Menu background. It also originally gave the taskbar a blur effect, but that seems to have been lost in 10240. http://www.askvg.com/how-to-enable-a...in-windows-10/ No doubt Stardock (or other third parties) will come up with a version of Windowblinds suitable for Windows 10 before long, that will give you transparent window borders. I use 'Windowblinds 8' on Windows 8, and it makes it look looks very Windows 7 like (using the Diamond skin). It does install on the 10 preview, but doesn't play well with the taskbar, so a new version is probably needed. |

my download file is stuck on 5.99gb
maybe the file size is dependent on what Windows you are running (I'm on Windows 8.1) |

I just had to reboot my PC for some other reason and even I got some updates and I've had it up and running for 2 days.
I don't feel left out now, even if because it's Windows 10, I have no idea what the updates were!
