Mine's just started to install. I didn't check for updates, just got a splash screen from the Get Windows utility saying it was ready.

I get a failed attempt any time I check for an update. I also notice the windows 10 banner has gone from my update centre.

The MSA server does that from now on (once its verifed your previous 7 or 8 license, a one off) and it needs a MS account login for home users

If and when i get win7 upgraded, its not playing at the moment, i was going to do a clean install of win10.
Would have made my life a whole lot easier if i could just download win10 iso, go straight to format/clean install using win7 key instead of this stupid upgrade path

I hope that W10 is not an automatically downloaded upgrade. I have only just got this W8.1 laptop and I am still getting used to it, so I don't want to muck about upgrading it for quite a while, if I ever do.

You can select upgrade. No need to make a iso just yet (seems to be working so far)

I suppose it has to download all the files from scratch?

Do not be tempted to run the setup.exe from the $WINDOWS.~BT folder.
It will start deleting some files and fail, so you will have to then wait for the next phase of downloads to bring down those files, so could put you to the back of the queue.

I really don't get the point of downloading the files in advance to not then allow people to install it at midnight.

Both my machines had it downloaded last night but I went to bed at 11 thinking I would be good to go this morning, no chance. All I was greeted with were some more minor Windows Updates when last night it was saying it would tell me when Win 10 could be installed.

Edit - I take it all back. Just launched the Win10 app on my Surface and it's allowing me to install it now

Worked for me in the end. It started up with a wrong sized screen but eventually found that the control panel was in the boxes. Was able to change settings on display, though still not quite right as top line is only half visible.

Once I used the control panel it disappeared from the boxes and was in the drop-down menu.

Seems a dog's breakfast so far.

Evidently I'm not in the first wave. Anticlimax.

Not sure if it's coincidence but the graphics card driver on my desktop decided to update itself this morning.

Got to laugh, just tried to set up the microphone on Cortana for it to tell me the microphone isn't a supported one but it will try and set it up anyway. This is on a Surface Pro 3, MS flagship device and it's not supported correctly

She does hear me now, but for some reason isn't talking back. Just showing results in Edge instead which isn't exactly what all the videos showed off. Even simply questions like "What is the time?" just give me the results in Edge instead of her answering back.

As much as I love MS, this stuff wouldn't happen on a Mac.

After a hour i'm on windows 10. Just a few niggly driver problems to sort out but nothing major. I will do a clean install at one point though
